CNN —Riley Strain, a Missouri college student who went missing after leaving a downtown Nashville bar and whose body was later found in a river, died of accidental drowning and alcohol poisoning, the medical examiner’s office said Tuesday. Strain’s body was found in the Cumberland River in West Nashville on the morning of March 22, several miles from where he had gone missing. The autopsy report said Strain’s blood alcohol level was 0.228, which is almost three times the legal driving limit. CNN obtained a copy of the autopsy report from CNN affiliate WTVF and has reached out to the Strain family’s attorney for comment. The federal government has issued more than $1 billion in tax credits as an upfront cash incentive to buyers of electric vehicles, the U.S. Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday. The Inflation Reduction Act created a mechanism whereby tax credits for buyers of new and used EVs — worth up to $7,500 and $4,000, respectively — could be delivered by car dealers at the point of sale. Previously, consumers had to wait until filing their annual tax return, perhaps months or more than a year after their vehicle purchase, to get the federal credit. Americans can now also get the EV tax credit upfront regardless of their federal tax liability, which wasn't the case prior to 2024. "This has never been done before," Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said during a press call.

☆ OPEC’s sway over global oil prices may soon loosen, IEA says

The Paris-based IEA said Wednesday that it expects growth in global oil production — led by the United States and other countries in the Americas — to “inflate the world’s spare (oil) capacity cushion” to levels seen only once before, during the coronavirus pandemic when oil prices crashed. By 2030, global oil supply will outstrip demand by a “staggering” 8 million barrels per day, according to forecasts published by the agency in its medium-term oil market report. “(That’s) a major, major surplus and… might be one of the highest in the history,” Fatih Birol, the IEA’s executive director, told reporters. The IEA also forecast growth in global oil demand to “slow progressively” over the rest of the decade, with demand peaking by 2029 before contracting slightly the year after. Despite the cuts, oil prices have trended downward in recent months.
