The DeSantis and Haley camps each believed they would benefit if the other left the field and created an unambiguous one-on-one race with Trump. In fact, both the Trump and DeSantis campaigns believe that more of the Florida governor’s supporters will likely pick Trump. Any gain or loss for Haley among voters from DeSantis’ decision seems likely to affect the race only marginally, many GOP observers believe. Even at that point in the 2016 race, Trump had won only a cumulative 40% of the votes cast in the GOP primaries. His theory that he could peel away a meaningful number of previous Trump voters simply proved wrong.

The Honolulu Fire Department said in a statement that a group of hikers called 911 on January 15 to report a barking dog on a steep mountain slope, who was apparently without a handler. A rescuer rappelled some 20 feet down the slope and airlifted the dog to safety — but the pilot noticed an object roughly 70 feet below where the dog has been found. They said the Honolulu Police Department performed a wellness check at the owner's address, but found no one home. Rescuers put her on a stretcher and airlifted her off the mountain and brought her to the hospital.

But new online job posting data suggests a possible slowdown: Total job postings on online job site Indeed have fallen more than 15% compared to the start of 2023, according to data as of January 5 shared with CNN by Nick Bunker, Indeed’s economic research director for North America. Bunker said that new job postings, or those that have been on Indeed for 7 days or less, are down 13.5% year-over-year. A surplus of open roles for the past few years has made it easy for Americans to jump from job to job, gaining higher pay and perks like remote work in the process. “Software development job postings are down 44.6% from a year ago, while postings for banking and finance jobs are down 31.3%,” Bunker said. (AP) — A man who fell through the ice on a frozen Michigan lake was rescued after a quick-thinking state police officer used the stranded man's dog to get rescue equipment to him and pull the man to safety. Bystanders called 911 on Thursday after the 65-year-old Traverse City man fell through ice-covered Arbutus Lake, state police said. But contrary to the marketing that made millennials feel ancient, the new "Mean Girls" isn't trying to push its thirtysomething viewers in front of a bus. The trailer called millennials old to their faces in a bold, pink-lettered declaration: "This isn't your mother's 'Mean Girls.'" Her talent is indisputable and can easily be recognized and appreciated by a member of any generation who finds themselves in a theater showing "Mean Girls" this winter. Thankfully, making a "Mean Girls" movie that isn't for millennials is just as impossible as making fetch happen — but the fact that they ever tried to still isn't grool.
