Monster energy drinks are seen for sale in a motorway services shop, Reading, Britain, January 25, 2019. REUTERS/Peter CziborraAug 3 (Reuters) - Monster Beverage Corp (MNST.O) missed Wall Street estimates for second-quarter sales on Thursday as higher cost of living weighed on demand for its pricier energy drinks and alcohol brands, sending its shares down 3.4% after the bell. Consumers have curbed non-essential spending as disposable incomes remain pressured by rising interest rates and higher food prices. Like Coca-Cola (KO.N) and PepsiCo (PEP.O), Monster Beverage also implemented price hikes as it fights pressures from higher raw material costs and labor expenses. Net sales rose to $1.85 billion from $1.66 billion a year ago, compared with analysts' average estimate of $1.87 billion, according to Refinitiv data.

Andrew Adams, who has led the "KleptoCapture" task force since its inception in March 2022, will be replaced by his deputies Michael Khoo and David Lim, a DOJ spokesperson said. "It was a privilege to cap this time in service of the Department's response to the war in Ukraine," Adams, a 10-year Justice Department veteran, wrote in a LinkedIn post. In launching the task force, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said it would enforce sanctions and export controls designed to freeze Russia out of global markets, and confiscate assets obtained through unlawful conduct. While global supply networks recover from the pandemic shock, fresh impetus is coming from tougher environmental standards, which drive companies to invest in new technologies to reduce their and their suppliers' emissions. "So in battery, steel, aluminum and cast iron we will only source green materials and technologies by 2030," Foller told Reuters. The foundation told Reuters it would also consider further investments in producers of steel, construction and green aluminium produced with hydropower or from recycled materials. Scania said that following its 10 million euro ($11.15 million) seed investment in H2GS in 2021, it has entered a steel supply agreement from 2027. While companies will keep investing in their suppliers in the short to medium term, the market will eventually reach saturation, said Jon Chadwick, global energy transition lead at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

July 19 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) CEO Elon Musk signalled on Wednesday that he would cut prices again on electric vehicles in "turbulent times", even as his all-out price war on automaker rivals squeezes the company's own margins. The large price cuts have pressured Tesla's automotive gross margin, a closely watched indicator in the industry, but Musk has said Tesla would sacrifice margin to drive volume growth. As an example, Tesla this year cut U.S. prices of its Model Y long-range version by a quarter to $50,490. In 2020, Musk unveiled a plan to produce Tesla's own EV batteries called "4680" cells. Tesla said production of the long-delayed electric pickup Cybertruck remained on track for initial deliveries this year.

PARIS, July 19 (Reuters) - An ongoing energy crisis and an economic downturn is expected to slow global power demand growth in 2023, but a probable rebound in 2024 means more renewable capacity needs to be developed, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Wednesday. For 2024, the rate is expected to rise to 3.3%, as the economic outlook improves, the IEA data showed. The Paris-based agency predicted renewable energy would cover the expected growth this year and next and power from renewable sources would exceed one third of the total global power supply for the first time next year. In the first half this year, the EU recorded a 6% decline in power demand as energy-intensive industries, including aluminum, steel, paper, and chemical industries, cut their use in response to high prices. Increased use of cooling to cope with summer heatwaves is expected to drive the demand growth there this year.

JPMorgan downgrades this aluminum stock ahead of earnings

Analyst Bill Peterson downgraded the stock to neutral from overweight and slashed his price target to $36 from $54 in the runup to its earnings report next week. Despite an approximately 90% correlation between Alcoa shares and aluminum prices over the past decade, Alcoa has underperformed the metal by 7% since April. Aluminum prices as a whole should also be cheaper than previously forecasted in both the fourth quarter and 2024, but may find support in the second half of next year as inventories thin out. Cost pressure could also remain into 2024 given the lower bauxite grade feed for refineries. As a group, Peterson said he remained constructive on aluminum stocks in the long term.
