The new agreement, announced on Thursday, extends the current contract with the NWSL Players Association to 2030. A record 56 NWSL athletes competed in the Games, including 19 players on the U.S. women's national soccer team, which won gold. The deal also increases the minimum salary for players from $48,500 in 2025 to $82,500 by 2030. The salary minimum for reserve players in Major League Soccer (MLS) is $71,401, and the minimum for senior players is $89,716.

CNN —Human brain samples collected at autopsy in early 2024 contained more tiny shards of plastic than samples collected eight years prior, according to a preprint posted online in May. “Compared to autopsy brain samples from 2016, that’s about 50% higher,” Campen said. Nanoplastics are the most worrisome plastics for human health, experts say, because the minuscule pieces can take up residence inside individual cells. In that report, the consortium determined plastics are associated with harms to human health at every single stage of the plastic lifecycle. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s latest survey on consumers’ labor market experiences and expectations showed that job, wage and benefits satisfaction all sank in July. Job offer activity held steady from July 2023, and the average expected likelihood of receiving at least one job offer increased from last year. Restaurant analysts say that Starbucks, which has historically done less television advertising than rivals, will use marketing to try to improve customers’ perceptions of Starbucks’ brand and prices. Swiss banking giant UBS on Wednesday smashed net profit expectations for the second quarter, as revenue came in higher than expected. Net profit attributable to shareholders came in at $1.136 billion for the period, versus a company-compiled consensus forecast of $528 million. UBS had swung back to profit in the first quarter after two quarterly losses, but it warned that its net interest income would fall in both its global wealth management and its personal and corporate banking divisions. It has now been over a year since UBS completed the legal takeover of Credit Suisse, triggering a huge integration process and forming a wealth management juggernaut.
