The "twisties," which cut short Biles' Tokyo run, were nowhere in sight on Saturday as the U.S. gymnast appeared back to her previous, top-notch form after taking more than a year off from the sport. During that break she prioritized her mental health, which became a major focus following her abrupt withdrawal from the team finals in Tokyo. "I’m still continuing to work on myself and go to therapy," Biles said, stressing the importance of a mental break. "I think I’m in better shape than I was in 2021," she said. "Who knows, I'm not going to think too far ahead," Biles said when asked about her plans.

CNN —Seven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles is due to return to competitive gymnastics on Saturday for the first time since pulling out of Tokyo Olympics finals in 2021. The world gymnastics championships are then scheduled to take place between September 30 and October 8 in Antwerp, Belgium. Biles competes on vault during the women's team final at the Tokyo Olympics. Biles is the most decorated gymnast in US history, winning 32 medals across the Olympics and the world championships. After a two-year hiatus, Biles is returning to gymnastics as a celebrated advocate for mental health.

Biles, a seven-time Olympic and 25-time world medallist, showed off routines on all four apparatus in podium training on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Core Hydration U.S. Classic in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. All is good.”The 2016 Olympic all-around champion took more than a year off training after the Tokyo Games, but her routines show no signs of a slowdown. “She looks amazing,” fellow Tokyo team mate and Tokyo Olympics all-around champion Sunisa Lee said of Biles after Friday’s training session. Biles is the most decorated gymnast at Saturday’s two-session competition, but the women’s line-up is stacked, sharing a combined 55 Olympic and world medals according to gymnastics podcast Gymcastic. Along with Biles and Lee, other notable competitors include 2020 Olympic floor exercise champion Jade Carey, 2020 Olympic team silver medallist Jordan Chiles, and Leanne Wong, 2021 world all-around runner-up.

“We’ve never seen an athlete like Simone Biles,” Ryan said. And yet that sport was corrosive enough and abusive enough that she really had to step away for her own mental health,” added Ryan. “I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being.”Biles was replaced in the all-around final by Jade Carey, who had finished ninth in the qualifying round. More than 150 athletes, including Biles, said that the former USA Gymnastics team doctor sexually abused them under the guise of providing medical treatment. “I think this just really shows the lack of leadership of USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee.”However, there is hope that a brighter future is in store for USA Gymnastics.

Summary Peso's informal value hits all-time low vs dollarAnnual inflation surges to 45%Plunge in peso value 'something horrible', says teacherHAVANA, Aug 2 (Reuters) - The Cuban peso was trading on the informal market at an all-time low of 230 to the dollar on Wednesday, slumping to half its value a year ago as consumers struggle with surging inflation and scarce goods, a widely watched tracker showed. The state considers the informal exchange rate, widely tracked via the independent news outlet El Toque, as illegal, but it has been unable to shut it down. The state officially pegs the local currency at 120 pesos to the dollar, but it has few to exchange. The weakening informal rate was similar to a fall in the government’s electronic equivalent, which residents must use to purchase goods at state stores that are relatively well-stocked compared with peso outlets. Prices grew 39% last year, a figure many economists say underestimates the rate as it does not adequately account for a growing informal market.

CNN —Golf’s power structure took a sharp shift to the players Tuesday when Tiger Woods was named as the sixth player director on the powerful PGA Tour policy board. The move gives the players a one-seat advantage on the board after the controversial merger in June between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf. Five of the policy board members are independent directors, with professional backgrounds in law and business. “I am honored to represent the players of the PGA TOUR. Many elite PGA golfers accepted highly lucrative offers from LIV Golf, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson.

How soon is too soon to call a progressive and libertarian policy obsession a public policy fiasco? In the case of Oregon’s Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Act, better known as Measure 110, the moment can’t come soon enough. The Drug Policy Alliance, which spent millions to help pass the measure, called it “the biggest blow to the drug war to date” and celebrated its supposed success in a slick video. “Often, she says, someone is passed out in front of the lobby’s door, blocking her entrance. The other day, a man lurched in, lay down on a Forte couch, stripped off his shirt and shoes and refused to leave.”

Tiger Woods wipes his driver grip on the 18th tee box during the first round of the PGA TOUR Champions PNC Championship at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club on December 17, 2022 in Orlando, Florida. Ben Jared | PGA Tour | Getty ImagesThe PGA Tour on Tuesday said Tiger Woods would join its policy board, a concession meant to give players more input and oversight as negotiations continue for its controversial deal with Saudi-backed LIV Golf. Woods joins the board less than a month after former AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson resigned due to concerns regarding the Saudi investment. Until the proposed deal was announced, the PGA Tour and LIV were embroiled in antitrust lawsuits – lobbed at each other – as players left the tour for big paydays at LIV. The proposed deal has been met with ire and confusion from lawmakers, members of the tour and fans.

"Tiger's voice and leadership throughout his career have contributed immeasurably to the success of the PGA Tour, and to apply both to our governance and go-forward plan at this crucial time is even more welcomed and impactful," said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. "I am honoured to represent the players of the PGA Tour," Woods, who is recovering from ankle surgery in April, said in a news release. The announcement comes nearly two months after the golf world was left stunned by the announcement of a framework agreement between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which controls LIV Golf. According to the PGA Tour, the players and Monahan will work together to amend the Policy Board's governing documents to make it clear that no major decision can be made without the involvement and approval of the player directors. For the past two and a half years, Oregon has been trying an unusual experiment to stem soaring rates of addiction and overdose deaths. The aim is to reserve prosecutions for large-scale dealers and address addiction primarily as a public health emergency. But its street population was growing, especially after the anti-police protests that had spread around the country that summer. Since then, Oregon’s overdose rates have only grown. Some politicians and community groups are calling for Measure 110 to be replaced with tough fentanyl possession laws.

Here's why my cofounder and I decided to go with Neo and turned down a spot in Y Combinator. We also worked at another YC company, Fractional, after that too. So we changed ideas, and I think YC was maybe not too happy about that. I do think YC, outside of Silicon Valley, is still a bigger name, and there's a huge number of unicorns that have come out of there. If you're a B2B company, YC is probably a better buy, because YC's network can be great for finding new customers.

But Microsoft is making clear that it's not strictly an OpenAI shop when it comes to generative AI. On Tuesday at its Inspire conference, the company said it's making Meta's new AI large language model, dubbed Llama 2, available on its Azure cloud computing service. Meta said in a blog post that Microsoft is its "preferred partner" for its Llama 2 software, which is available for free for companies and researchers. "Meta and Microsoft share a commitment to democratizing AI and its benefits and we are excited that Meta is taking an open approach with Llama 2," Microsoft said. Llama 2 will also be available through Amazon Web Services and Hugging Face, a popular service used by AI researchers.

"High level, we want this to become something like your personal AI friend," said developer Div Garg, whose company MultiOn is beta-testing an AI agent. The race towards increasingly autonomous AI agents has been supercharged by the March release of GPT-4 by developer OpenAI, a powerful upgrade of the model behind ChatGPT - the chatbot that became a sensation when released last November. GPT-4 facilitates the type of strategic and adaptable thinking required to navigate the unpredictable real world, said Vivian Cheng, an investor at venture capital firm CRV who has a focus on AI agents. OpenAI itself is very interested in AI agent technology, according to four people briefed on its plans. There are at least 100 serious projects working to commercialize agents, said Matt Schlicht, who writes a newsletter on AI.
