Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash reacts to a call during the second quarter of the game against the Indiana Pacers at Barclays Center on October 31, 2022 in New York City. The Brooklyn Nets parted ways with head coach Steve Nash on Tuesday, following the star-laden team's 2-5 start to the NBA season. Nash, a Hall of Fame player who won two NBA MVP awards, has coached the Nets since 2020, leading them on two unsuccessful playoff runs. "Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure." Marks said it was "an immensely difficult decision" to part ways with Nash, but that, after evaluating the beginning of the season, the change was deemed necessary.
Since his death more than 500 years ago, multihyphenate genius Leonardo da Vinci and his spectacular works have inspired respect and wonder in generation after generation the world over. “Likewise in painting, I can do everything possible as well as any other, whosoever he may be,” da Vinci offered, not incorrectly. LONDON, Oct 27 (Reuters Breakingviews) - After years of botched strategies, Credit Suisse (CSGN.S) has finally hit the nail on the head. He’s also in exclusive talks with Apollo Global Management (APO.N) and PIMCO about selling the securitisation business, which bundles and slices mortgages for credit investors. It could fall even further if Credit Suisse eventually hives off the carved-out dealmaking business it is rebranding as CS First Boston, under former Citigroup (C.N) rainmaker Michael Klein. Those moves solve the central problem that has plagued Credit Suisse for years, and which former CEOs Thomas Gottstein and Tidjane Thiam failed to answer. The deposit outflow saw Credit Suisse breach liquidity requirements set by regulators of its legal subsidiaries.
Sunak, Britain’s third prime minister in seven weeks, took office on Tuesday with a pledge to fix the “mistakes” Truss made. Truss’ “mini” budget of September 23 crashed the pound and caused a rout in the bond market, sending UK borrowing costs — including mortgage rates — soaring. One area Sunak may be tempted to tap is the social welfare budget. That could save £7 billion ($8 billion) in 2023-24, according to the IFS, but would prove controversial. According to Hunt, the budget, when it comes, will set out how the government plans to reduce debt in the medium term.
There’s little appetite for government spending cuts after years of austerity in the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis. Plus, failing to help households deal with surging living costs could prove politically devastating and further weigh on the economy. Finance minister Jeremy Hunt got the ball rolling last week when he reversed £32 billion ($37 billion) in tax cuts that formed the bedrock of Truss’ plan to boost growth. Risk of a ‘doom loop’Investors and economists expect that the government will announce a mixture of tax increases and spending cuts shortly. No one wants to repeat the errors of the brief Truss era, when her gamble that unfunded tax cuts would jumpstart growth backfired spectacularly.
"I think it is a shambles and a disgrace," he said, in a video that a couple of other Conservative lawmakers tweeted in agreement. "I have made a mistake, I accept responsibility, I resign," she said in a letter to the prime minister. As a replacement, Truss appointed former minister Grant Shapps, who said recently that Truss faced a massive battle to survive. He also failed to offer a ringing endorsement of the prime minister. "I have been very clear that I am sorry, and I have made mistakes," Truss told jeering opposition lawmakers in parliament.
More than any of his predecessors, President Joe Biden has aggressively leaned on this emergency oil stockpile to knock down the high pump prices that voters despise. That has left this emergency oil stockpile at its lowest point since June 1984 — a time when both the US economy and energy demand was significantly smaller than today. The SPR headlines are rattling an energy market already on edge over a potential recession. US oil prices dropped 3% to $82.82 on Tuesday, returning to levels last seen before rumors swirled regarding OPEC+’s controversial production cuts. They’ve done a tremendous job achieving their goal of trying to get energy prices lower,” said Michael Tran, managing director of global energy strategy at RBC Capital Markets.
Walt Nauta, a longtime Trump aide, was seen moving boxes out from a storage room the FBI searched. Nauta was seen moving boxes before and after the DOJ demanded top-secret files be returned in May. Intrigue has swirled around what was kept in the storage room, and whether anything was removed from it before the DOJ searched Trump's property. The Times' piece dropped hours after The Washington Post reported that Trump himself explicitly directed employees to move boxes of White House documents from the storage room. After the raid, the FBI carted off 11,000 documents from Mar-a-Lago, including some that were marked "CLASSIFIED."

A federal judge said patriotism is not standing up for a man "who knows full well that he lost." Judge Amy Berman Jackson noted the recent increase in threats to law enforcement officials. Her comments came as she sentenced a Capitol rioter to more than seven years in prison. For one federal judge, that rhetoric merited a message of deterrence on Tuesday. At the sentencing of a Capitol rioter, Judge Amy Berman Jackson rebuked Republican leaders for "cagily predicting or even outright calling for violence in the streets if one of the multiple investigations doesn't go his way."

At Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, wore a pair of pearl drop earrings given to her by the queen. In the run-up to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, questions swirled around what roles the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would play in the ceremonies. For a family known for keeping tight-lipped public personas, much of the debate fell to their clothes. Would Prince Harry wear his military uniform, after losing his honorary military titles when he and Meghan Markle stepped down from their senior royal positions in early 2020? And how would Ms. Markle, whose style choices were long deemed ostentatious by critics, dress for the occasion?
When the government decides to start buying, oil prices could get some nice support, which would be good for our energy holdings. When a player like the U.S. government goes from supplier to buyer, its a pretty positive sign for those that benefit from higher oil prices. Remember, the variable part of the dividend payments that all three companies pay are tied directly to free cash flow generation. Coterra's free cash flow breakeven is about $40 per barrel as of its second quarter results. In July 2021, U.S. oil prices fell below $70 after OPEC said it would increase output as Covid fears weighed on global demand.

SANTA FE, N.M — Alec Baldwin was on the set of his latest film, a low-budget western called “Rust,” working on a scene in which his character, a grizzled outlaw named Harland Rust, finds himself in a small wooden church, cornered by a sheriff and a U.S. Members of the small crew — including the director, cinematographer, cameraman and script supervisor — clustered around Mr. Baldwin inside the cramped, spartan set. As light poured through the church’s windows, casting slanted rays in the dust that swirled over the pews, a shadow fell, and the crew had to adjust the camera angle. The crew had been assured the gun was “cold,” meaning it held no live ammunition, according to court papers. In fact, investigators said, it was loaded with a live round.
