(AP) — The Los Angeles Angels will not trade three-time AL MVP Mike Trout, general manager Perry Minasian confirmed at MLB's winter meetings on Tuesday. “Mike Trout will not be getting traded, 100%,” Minasian told MLB.com and other outlets. The sports-betting company Mojo is laying off 20% of its staff. The A-Rod and Marc Lore-founded startup had previously announced $100 million in funding. Four people close to the company said Mojo is making a strategic shift toward its B2B business. Mojo, a sports-betting startup whose cofounders include MLB legend Alex Rodriguez and Jet.com cofounder Marc Lore, is laying off 20% of its staff, the company confirmed to Business Insider. A spokesperson for Mojo said the company was not selling its B2C business, but declined to comment on whether there was a strategy shift.

The NBA In-Season Tournament, running this year for the first time, is the league’s idea for that mid-season boost. The media rights to NBA games are up after the 2024-2025 season, and the tournament could make the NBA’s television rights more lucrative to potential networks and streaming bidders. To add intrigue to the tournament, each of the 30 NBA teams has a distinct court design and jersey for games. The NBA’s strategy behind the colorful court designs was to attract attention — even if some of the reaction to the courts has been negative. The NBA in-season tournament is the latest example of sports leagues adapting to try to add excitment in an increasingly competitive media environment.

(Full disclosure: I briefly hosted a television show for Sports Illustrated a few years back that no one watched.) But the only difference between those sports sites using AI writers and other sports sites using AI writers is that people actually used to enjoy Sports Illustrated and Deadspin; Yahoo, for example, has been contracted with a company called “Automated Insights” to write AI sport stories for years. Another game I like to play in my downtime is NBA2K, the wildly popular NBA video game. But in the game, Aldridge is not real; he’s just some pixels synced to audio the real Aldridge recorded years ago. Sports writers insist, as we fight back against a creeping AI world, that we can always do our jobs better than a robot can.

One holding company exec said for the first time in years, their clients' YouTube spending hasn't increased this year. Execs also cited suitability of YouTube content as an ongoing factor in their spending allocations. YouTube TV , launched in 2017, provides linear and on-demand programming, and parent Alphabet has called it a bright spot for subscriber growth. YouTube also pitches TV advertisers on YouTube Select, which lets advertisers run ads on the top 5% of its most popular programming. NEW YORK (AP) — Reliever Liam Hendriks and outfielder Cody Bellinger were selected Major League Baseball's Comeback Players of the Year on Tuesday. He went 2-0 with one save and a 5.40 ERA in five appearances for the Chicago White Sox, the last on June 9. The White Sox declined a $15 million option and will pay a $15 million buyout in 10 equal installments from 2024-33.
