New York CNN —TD Bank will pay $3 billion to settle charges that it failed to properly monitor money laundering by drug cartels, regulators announced Thursday. TD also intends to pay $1.8 billion to the US Justice Department and plead guilty to resolve the US government’s investigation that the bank violated of the Bank Secrecy Act and allowed money laundering. The US Department of Justice said in a statement that TD Bank had “long-term, pervasive, and systemic deficiencies” in its procedures of monitoring transactions. TD Bank declined to comment on the fine, but the bank plans to hold a call with investors later on Thursday. TD Bank’s (TD) US-listed shares slumped 5% as investors brace for higher legal expenses and weaker growth.

In the past five years, four other alums have either shuttered or stopped trading hedge fund strategies. It's the latest spinoff from long-running Tiger Cub Lone Pine Capital to shutter. Lone Pine, the $16 billion firm led by co-chief investment officers Kelly Granat and David Craver, was founded in 1997 by billionaire Steve Mandel. Inside the Lone Pine family treeGaonkar's experience is far from the norm for Lone Pine alums though. Audience members walked out of a recent "Terrifier 3" screening, and one person vomited. A violent scene in "Terrifier 2" helped create buzz around the movie, helping it make $15 million. AdvertisementAudience members were so disgusted by the ultra-gory horror movie "Terrifier 3" that they walked out of a screening last week — which is great news for its marketing team. The hype likely helped the independent movie rake in $15 million against a budget of $250,000, despite having no backing from a major Hollywood studio. It remains to be seen if "Terrifier 3" will be another cult hit — and what horrors will befall the victims of "Terrifier 4," which was greenlit in September.

CNN —Hurricane Milton slammed into Florida’s Gulf Coast on Wednesday night, making landfall as a powerful Category 3 storm. The intense hurricane spawned tornadoes, dumped rain across much of the state, left millions without power and claimed at least 12 lives, including five people in St. Lucie County. Milton is the third hurricane to hit Florida this year — which has only happened during five other hurricane seasons since 1871. Many areas in Florida are also recovering from the aftermath of a Milton-spurred torrent “supercharged” tornadoes, according to National Hurricane Center Director Michael Brennan. Milton was the fifth hurricane to make landfall in the United States this year, joining Category 1 Beryl, Category 1 Debby, Category 2 Francine and Category 4 Helene.
