Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz is running against Republican state Rep. Bob McDermott to represent Hawaii in the US Senate. Schatz has raised over $4 million and still has just over $2 million on hand, while McDermott has not reported raising any money for his campaign. McDermott told a local news outlet that running against Schatz "looks like a suicide mission." He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and also serves on the Senate Democratic Caucus' leadership team as chief deputy whip. The money raceAccording to OpenSecrets, Schatz has raised $4.6 million, spent $4.7 million, and has $2.1 million cash on hand, as of October 19.

HONOLULU — Hawaii officials are warning residents of the Big Island that the world’s largest active volcano, Mauna Loa, is sending signals that it may erupt. Hawaii’s civil defense agency is holding meetings across the island to educate residents about how to prepare for a possible emergency. “Not to panic everybody, but they have to be aware of that you live on the slopes of Mauna Loa. Molten rock flows from Mauna Loa, located on the south-central part of the island of Hawaii, on April 4, 1984. Alternatively, the temblors could subside and Mauna Loa may not erupt this time.

CNN —“The Flash” actor Ezra Miller has pleaded not guilty on Monday to burglary charges in relation to an alleged Vermont home invasion in which they are accused of stealing alcohol, according to Bennington Criminal Court Operations Manager Wendy Dickie. Miller, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, appeared virtually in the hearing with their attorney, Lisa Shelkrot. They face one felony charge of burglary into an occupied dwelling and one misdemeanor charge of petty larceny, Dickie said. Monday’s arraignment comes after Miller announced they were seeking mental health treatment in August. “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said in a statement at the time.

NASA's DART spacecraft successfully crashed into an asteroid on Monday night. About three minutes post-crash, LICIACube flew within 35 miles of the asteroid Dimorphos, to survey the collision's aftermath.

She spent less than $300 on the tent and roughly $8,000 on amenities like a kitchen, an outdoor shower and a king-sized mattress. Those earnings represent a sliver of a highly competitive tourism industry: In 2019, visitor spending on all of Hawaii's islands amassed $17.75 billion, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority. The main island, where Hall's tent is located, brought in $22.4 million daily, on average. Hall's tent, by comparison is modest: It costs visitors about $70 per night.
