The GOP’s 2024 party platform calls for the repeal of President Joe Biden’s executive order on AI, which Republicans say "hinders AI innovation." Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer speaks to NBC News from the balcony of his Capitol office on Thursday, Aug. 1. “We have lots of AI proposals in the defense bill because AI has national security concerns,” Schumer told NBC News. It would require federal agencies to assess the potential risks of using AI before purchasing or deploying AI systems. But it also has real problems,” Schumer said, referring to the Future of AI bill.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff descend from Air Force Two in Wilmington, DE, U.S., July 22, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris' personal financial records are under fresh scrutiny now that she is running for the highest office in the United States. Experts say recent tax filings show she and her husband, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, have largely kept their finances simple during her years as vice president. Yet that approach may have cost the couple as they left unclaimed tax savings through additional deductions, as well as other missed financial strategies. Harris' office did not respond to a request for comment by press time.

Workers who pay into Social Security while they're working should expect benefits from the program when they retire. Yet 72% of adults worry Social Security will run out of funding in their lifetimes, a new survey from Nationwide Retirement Institute finds. Meanwhile, 23% do not expect to receive even a dime of the Social Security benefits they've earned. However, fears that Social Security benefits may dry up completely are overblown, experts say. Nevertheless, Americans shouldn't worry Social Security will disappear.

It’s rare for Russian criminal hackers to land in U.S. prisons and even rarer for them to get out early. But two of the eight Russians released in Thursday’s prisoner swap with the U.S. are seasoned cybercriminals. It is believed to be the first time the U.S. has released international hackers in a prisoner exchange, according to cybercrime experts and a review conducted by NBC News. The two convicted Russian hackers, Vladislav Klyushin and Roman Seleznev, are in their early 40s. Natalia Kolesnikova / AFP - Getty ImagesThat was true for the men released Thursday.

Supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hold party flags as they celebrate Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony on June 9, 2024. Sopa Images | Lightrocket | Getty ImagesThere is an "internal battle" happening within India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over inviting Chinese investments, as the country strives to become Asia's manufacturing powerhouse, Alicia Garcia-Herrero, chief Asia Pacific economist at Natixis said. This proposal was shot down by Trade Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday who said that there was "no rethinking at present" on allowing Chinese investments into India, Reuters reported. Experts told CNBC that Chinese investments are needed in India's solar panel and battery manufacturing sectors — two areas that a report, citing Indian government sources last week, mentioned could see easing restrictions on Chinese investments. India increased scrutiny on Chinese investments into the country, and also blocked several Chinese mobile apps including TikTok following the incident.

Among those headed back to Russia are convicted hackers and several Russian nationals detained in the West for spying. And the biggest prize for Russia was the return of Vadim Krasikov, a convicted hitman whose release had been publicly sought by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Anna Chapman, one of 10 Russian sleeper agents deported from the US in a 2010 prisoner swap, was also feted on her return to Russia. Britain blamed the poisoning on Russia; Russia has consistently denied involvement, although Putin referred to Skripal as a “scumbag” and a “traitor,” his contempt suggesting that Skripal had gotten his just desserts. The release of Russians in the swap means that Russia’s political climate is no less repressive.

Yet in over half of the shootings we identified, ICE agents never made an arrest. But Ramos still became one of dozens of people on the receiving end of an ICE agent's deadly force. Kevin Lamarque | ReutersWhen it comes to the November election, there is one issue that is at the top of voters' wish lists: Social Security. It polled 1,831 adults age 18 and up who "currently receive or expect to receive Social Security." Experts say the post likely refers to the taxes Social Security beneficiaries may owe on their benefit income. Exactly how much Social Security beneficiaries pay in taxes is based on their "combined income," which includes adjusted gross income, nontaxable interest and half of their Social Security benefits. Yet in a March CNBC interview, Trump said he would consider cutting "entitlements," which may refer to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.

It’s hard to be anonymous online in China. Websites and apps must verify users with their phone numbers, which are tied to personal identification numbers that all adults are assigned. Now it could get more difficult under a proposal by China’s internet regulators: The government wants to take over the job of verification from the companies and give people a single ID to use across the internet. The Ministry of Public Security and the Cyberspace Administration of China say the proposal is meant to protect privacy and prevent online fraud. A national internet ID would reduce “the excessive collection and retention of citizens’ personal information by internet platforms on the grounds of implementing real-name registration,” the regulators said.

London CNN —Entertaining the King of England is an expensive business, France is finding out. A sumptuous lobster dinner held to welcome Britain’s King Charles III to Paris last September cost the French president’s office nearly €475,000 ($515,000), according to accounts published on Monday by France’s public auditor. The state dinner included outlays of more than €166,000 ($180,000) for catering and €42,000 ($46,000) for drinks, on top of other costs including furniture, flowers and table decorations. King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, attended the banquet as part of a three-day state visit to France, which had been postponed from earlier in 2023 because of widespread protests over Macron’s pension reforms. During the trip, King Charles praised the “indispensable relationship” between the UK and its neighbor in a historic speech to the French senate chamber.

This drop in such a short period seems overly exaggerated, and I'm on the lookout for signs of a bounce to initiate a bullish trade on CRWD. DMI (Directional Movement Index): The DMI is composed of three lines: DI+ (green line), DI- (red line), and ADX (blue line). When the DI- (red line) is above the DI+ (green line), it indicates a downtrend. Note that both DI- and DI+ are changing direction, which provides the first indication of a possible trend change. The Trade To take a bullish trade on CRWD, I'm using a trade structure called a "bull call spread."

The paper published a photograph of Malian separatist forces holding up a Ukrainian flag, an apparent expression of solidarity with the country. The battle killed Wagner Group commander Sergei Shevchenko, Razguzra Vagnera said. The separatist group that claimed responsibility for the attack is the Permanent Strategic Framework for Peace, Security and Development, or CSP-PSD, the BBC reported. CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris went on the offensive on immigration at her rally in Atlanta Tuesday, attempting to counter former President Donald Trump’s attacks on the issue. It paints Trump as unserious on border security and cites his decision to scuttle the bipartisan immigration deal that included some of the toughest border security measures in recent memory. The video comes on the heels of two Trump campaign ads taking direct aim at Harris’ immigration portfolio. While another shows a video of Harris dancing at an event, stating: “This is America’s border czar — and she’s failed us.”Both ads conclude by describing Harris as “failed. Biden administration officials have repeatedly maintained that Harris focused on long-term fixes, while the Department of Homeland Security remained responsible for overseeing border security.

New York CNN —Tesla CEO Elon Musk says anyone who doubts how valuable robotaxis will make the company should test drive its latest self-driving car. A Wall Street analyst did just that – and said the car almost crashed. The experience of WIlliam Stein, an analyst with Truist Securities, is not unique; others have also reported problems with Tesla’s full self driving, or FSD, feature. Tensions were high on both sides of the Israeli-Lebanese border on Monday as Israeli leaders vowed to deliver a significant military blow against the armed group Hezbollah in response to a deadly rocket attack over the weekend. The attack on Saturday killed 12 children and teenagers in the Druse Arab village of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militia that dominates southern Lebanon and that has been firing rockets into Israel for months, denied responsibility for the strike. But Israel and the United States blamed the group, saying it was Hezbollah’s rocket that had been fired from territory it controls. Hezbollah began firing rockets, antitank missiles and drones into Israel in solidarity with Hamas after that group, which is also backed by Iran, led the deadly Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel.
