The former president praised the Secret Service agents who piled in when a gunman opened fire at an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Simon Morgan, a security expert and former bodyguard to the British royal family, said the criticism of the Secret Service hasn't been entirely fair. Secret Service agents were unfairly judged, Morgan saidMorgan cautioned members of the public with "limited knowledge" to think twice before commenting. "The only people who can comment on what happened are those Secret Service agents," Morgan said. But according to a local law enforcement officer and the Butler County sheriff, law enforcement weren't aware that he also had a gun.

CNN —A British-Canadian couple who were attempting to sail across the Atlantic have been found dead on an island off the east coast of Canada. The couple left Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia on June 11 en route to the Azores, a group of Portuguese islands in the mid-Atlantic, around 2,000 miles away. It is not clear why the couple abandoned the Theros and got into a lifeboat. They stayed in touch after Clibbery moved back to Canada and Packwood visited him in Salt Spring Island near Vancouver, where the Theros was docked, in spring 2016. “He took me on my first ever yacht trip and I loved it,” Packwood told The Guardian.

For us, it was the best family vacation ever. My twin daughters are huge SwiftiesThe Swiftie Era started in our house when our then 11-year-old twin girls came home from two weeks at sleepaway camp last summer, confirmed Taylor Swift fans. Tickets were prohibitively expensive, and we were already planning a family summer vacation in Southern California. I don't know what her magic is, but Taylor Swift is an effortless, tireless performer who emanates an effervescence of her own. We didn't give up a family vacation for a concert; in fact, it was the best decision we could have made for our family this summer.

On Sunday, the American clinched the Open Championship to claim the second major of his career. South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence finished one shot behind Rose and Horschel in tied-fourth, with American Russell Henley a further stroke back. Yet the attacks were coming from all angles now, the most ferocious of all from playing partner Lawrence and Schauffele, two holes ahead. The steely-eyed barrage continued with two more birdies across the next three holes to open up a three shot lead. Rose and Lawrence had barely erred, each bogeying just once, but such was the relentless pace set by Schauffele.

Here are the top numbers and notes to know from the final round of the 152nd Open Championship. For the second time this season, Schauffele shot a final round 65 to win a major. Schauffele is the first player to win the PGA and Open in the same season since Rory McIlroy did it 10 years ago. With the 2024 major schedule completed, this is the first time American players have swept a major season (in a year when all four were contested) since 1982. Of the last six players to win multiple majors in the same season, four won another major within the next two years.

TROON, Scotland — Xander Schauffele was for so long the best golfer without a major. The ever-steady 30-year-old star never topped the Open leaderboard Thursday to Saturday, always quietly lurking in the top 10 before shooting a Sunday 65 to win the 152nd Open Championship for his second major title in three starts. For the first time since 1982, Americans — Schauffele (Open Championship, PGA Championship), Scottie Scheffler (Masters) and Bryson DeChambeau (U.S. Open) — have claimed all four major championships. Sunday began with Horschel, a 37-year-old seeking his first major championship, in the lead by one stroke, playing in the final group of a major’s final round for the first time. Now Schauffele enters the Olympics and the rest of the season no longer an admirable player who can’t win.

London, England CNN —The US men’s basketball team fought back from a double-digit deficit to edge past South Sudan 101-100 in a dramatic pre-Olympic friendly in London, England on Saturday. Despite its star power, Team USA has occasionally flattered to deceive recently and has looked unconvincing at times in victory. South Sudan, the world’s youngest country, is preparing to make its Olympic debut and defeated Great Britain in a friendly game on Thursday. South Sudan fought its way back into the game, catching fire from three-point range in the first quarter to grab the lead. “Don’t take nothing away from South Sudan,” he said.

CNN —It had been a relatively unremarkable Open Championship for Kim Si-woo as he stepped up to Royal Troon’s notorious penultimate tee on Saturday. One perfect thump of his three-iron later, the South Korean made history. That was more than Si-woo had managed before Saturday, having double bogeyed and bogeyed the 17th hole across his opening two rounds. Si-woo followed up his eagle with a closing par to card an even-par 71, keeping him at five-over overall for the week. Rucking appealed to me because it seemed like a simple way to make my daily lunchtime walks more efficient. That said, it doesn't look like a normal backpack, so I did get a few strange looks as I strolled around the rural village where I live on a weekday lunchtime. It felt very different from carrying a normal backpack, too, likely due to the weight and its positioning. AdvertisementI also learned that the ruck isn't something I will just always throw on when going for my daily walk. It ended up being a great workout, and definitely left me with aching muscles the next day.

Some of the companies reporting quarterly results next week are more likely to see their stocks get a post-earnings bump. Quarterly earnings so far have been positive. FactSet data showed that as of Thursday, 80% of the 61 companies in the S & P 500 that had already reported topped analyst earnings estimates. Analysts have revised their earnings estimates upwards by 25% and 64%, respectively, in the past three and six months. Analyst Jay Sole said he expects the Hoka brand has maintained "robust revenue momentum," which should give Deckers a good chance of beating earnings estimates and raising its forecast.

Here’s what to know if you’re planning to travel this weekend. David J. Phillip/APUS-based carriers American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Allegiant Airlines, SunCountry and Frontier Airlines all reported issues on Friday. Crews have limits on their working hours, so staffing challenges cascade along with flight delays. That all depends on the type of ticket you have, the airline you’re flying with and whether you have travel insurance (which is always a good idea). If you’re set to travel soon, wherever you are in the world, it’s worth double checking your individual journey status before you travel.

The coalition described Moscow as having "shattered" peace and stability in the West and having "gravely undermined global security." Russia and North Korea deny arms transfers have taken place.
