CNN —CNN hosted a town hall with 2024 Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump on Wednesday night in New Hampshire. 2020 ElectionJust minutes after the town hall began, Trump claimed the 2020 election was “rigged.”Facts First: This is Trump’s regular lie. Trump claimed Wednesday that he got gas prices down to $1.87 – and “even lower” – but they increased to $7, $8 or even $9 under Biden. The Presidential Records Act says that the moment a president leaves office, the National Archives and Records Administration gets legal custody and control of all presidential records from his administration. First, there’s no provision for negotiating over Presidential records at the end of a term.
CNN —The Biden administration is rolling out unprecedented measures intended to levy consequences against migrants who cross the border unlawfully in the wake of Title 42’s expiration this week. But, officials concede, the high number of border arrests in the coming days will still pose a steep challenge. “This is a really unprecedented moment in the Americas,” a senior administration official said Tuesday. But senior administration officials stress the actions are necessary to encourage people to use lawful pathways to come to the US. When asked by CNN Tuesday what measures authorities are taking to drive down in-custody numbers, the senior administration official said officials are working closely with NGOs and have expanded transportation contracts.
Migrant surge expectedThe surge of migrants is expected because Title 42, the Trump-era policy that allowed the government to quickly turn away certain migrants at the border during the Covid-19 pandemic, is expiring. These deployments are not unprecedented in recent years, but this one is notable since it coincides with an expected surge of border encounters. Biden administration’s plan to discourage border crossingsThe administration has tried to discourage migrants from simply crossing the border and promised that people apprehended will be turned away and potentially barred from reentry. Anger from New York’s mayorTexas has been transporting thousands of migrants to cities like New York, Chicago and Washington, DC. “Governor Abbott sent asylum seekers to NY – Black mayor; to Washington – Black mayor; to Houston – Black mayor; to Los Angeles – Black mayor; to Denver – Black mayor.
As they’ve done before, the troops would serve in administrative roles and not perform any law enforcement function, the sources said. “At the request of DHS, DOD will provide a temporary increase of an additional 1,500 military personnel, for 90 days, to supplement CBP efforts at the border. These 1,500 military personnel will fill critical capability gaps, such as ground-based detection and monitoring, data entry, and warehouse support, until CBP can address these needs through contracted support. They will not be doing any law enforcement work,” a US official said in a statement. Austin approved a deployment of 2,500 troops to the border, who remain there now, and the 1,500 troops are expected to join them in the coming days.

A Texas judge on Friday issued a ruling overturning FDA approval of an abortion medication. The 67-page document, written by right-wing Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, cited Wikipedia and is full of inaccuracies and falsehoods about the health effects of medical abortion, experts told Insider on Friday. Julia Steinberg, an expert on mental health and abortion, told Reuters in 2012 that most women in the study who experienced mental health issues after having an abortion had also experienced them before the abortion. The study also did not note whether or not the abortions had been done for health reasons or were elective abortions. So he is really outside of his lane making, in essence, a medical judgment that was informed by really, really bad information."

These cuts could happen as soon as this week before CEO Mark Zuckerberg goes on parental leave. Meta already laid off 11,000 workers or approximately 13% of the company's headcount in November. This fresh round of headcount cuts is happening because of Meta's financial targets, and is separate from Zuckerberg's push for "flattening" Meta's organizational structure, Bloomberg's sources — who were granted anonymity to talk about internal matters — said. A Meta spokesperson declined to comment on further layoffs, the expected number of job cuts, and which divisions might be impacted. The spokesperson did not immediately respond to Insider's follow-up query on when these reported job cuts might happen.
We throw a lot of dramatic vocabulary around these days. “Transgressiveness” has become more culture-war triteness than shock. An unexpected coincidence is “ironic.” Anyone who buttons up a uniform risks being called a hero, and death, if you go by the headlines, is about 100% tragic. One unfortunate effect of such triviality is how easy it becomes to miss stories of real human achievement and undeniable heroism. In the strikingly titled “Master Slave Husband Wife,” writer and historian Ilyon Woo recounts the almost-forgotten story of the “self-emancipation” of Georgia slaves William and Ellen Craft, in a narrative of such courage and resourcefulness it seems too dashing to be true.
He has a net worth of $67.6 billion, according to Forbes, and spends much of it on charity. But he also pours money into real estate, especially in Hawaii, and cars. The Meta founder and CEO's fortune surpassed $100 billion last year, making him one of 10 centi-billionaires on the planet. Zuckerberg mostly keeps a low profile, but he does splurge on real estate — especially in the tropical paradise that is Hawaii. Here's how the tech mogul spends his billions, from cars to properties to charity.
Mark ZuckerbergMark Zuckerberg, with a net worth of $56.7 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, once told physicist Stephen Hawking he wanted to know what would enable humans to live forever. Drew Angerer/Getty ImagesInsider's Cadie Thompson reported that in 2015, the late physicist Stephen Hawking asked Mark Zuckerberg about which big questions in science he sought answers to. Zuckerberg responded, "I'm most interested in questions about people. How does learning work and how we can empower humans to learn a million times more?" Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan are among a small crop of Silicon Valley elite who founded the prize in 2012, and continue to back it.
Sen. Rick Scott of Florida is running for re-election, he said in an announcement first shared with NBC News. Scott also promised to push a controversial conservative plan that brought bipartisan condemnation last year. Scott, who denied he would raise taxes but then walked back that part of the plan anyway, told NBC News he’s not backing away from the American Rescue plan. “If you look at when I ran in 2010, there are 4.6 million Democrats [registered to vote] in the state and 4 million Republicans,” he said. “Now what’s happened is we have 4.9 million Democrats and 5.2 million Republicans.
