Tottenham first hosted NFL fixtures in October 2019, a year later than planned due to delays with the stadium's construction. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the only stadium purpose-built for NFL games outside of the United States, has already hosted 12 of the league's 32 teams and will be given official status as the "Home of the NFL in the UK." "Growing the game globally is a major strategic priority for the league," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a joint news release. "Our commitment to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will allow us to continue to bring extraordinary NFL experiences to fans in London, while creating a positive social and economic impact on the local community." "Our partnership with the NFL has been integral to our wider vision for the stadium and delivering a sports and entertainment destination in London," said Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy.

Taiwan blasts Elon Musk over latest China comments

"Their (Beijing's) policy has been to reunite Taiwan with China. Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, in a post on X late Wednesday, responded that he hoped Musk could ask China to "open @X to its people". China blocks X, along with other major Western social media like Facebook. This is not the first time Musk, whose Tesla had a large factory in Shanghai, has riled Taiwan. Last October, he suggested that tensions between China and Taiwan could be resolved by handing over some control of Taiwan to Beijing, drawing a similarly strong reprimand from Taiwan.

CNN —Ukraine has ramped up missile and drone strikes on occupied Crimea in recent weeks, as it attempts to land both strategic and symbolic blows against Russian forces that annexed the peninsula in 2014. The next night, Russian air defenses shot down 11 Ukrainian drones over Crimea, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The shift in focus to Crimea occurred after Russia allowed the Black Sea Grain Initiative to lapse in July. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has since resumed its blockade of Ukraine’s ports, preventing vital grain exports and threatening global food security. Symbolic valueYet the strikes on Crimea also have huge symbolic value and are intended to damage Russian President Vladimir Putin’s prestige.

Arm’s $52 bln IPO value sets stage for a fall

Arm’s IPO investors are effectively paying a slight premium while also betting that both growth and profitability are about to soar. Haas could then charge higher royalty rates. In the last calendar year, the company estimated that its royalty revenue equated to 1.7% of total worldwide spending on Arm-based chips. It’s not clear how many important Arm customers like Apple (AAPL.O), Nvidia (NVDA.O) and Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) have agreed to pay higher royalty rates. Nor will rising royalty rates necessarily compensate for possibly ongoing sluggish sales of smartphones, its key historic market.

Frank Slootman, CEO of data storage and analytics company Snowflake , likened artificial intelligence to search engines, saying that soon many may not remember a world without it. "I've lived long enough that I remember what the world was like before search ... search changed everything," Slootman said. "People will not be able to remember a world before AI pretty soon because it becomes so integral to their life experience." However, he also noted that the hype around generative AI doesn't mean much to big data companies. We've been infatuated with using generative AI for "planning our next trip to Yellowstone and summarizing 'The Great Gatsby' — but "that's not what enterprises do," he said.

Indonesia's President Joko Widodo, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial at Rajghat in New Delhi on September 10, 2023. When India won its independence from the British in 1947, right-wing Hindu nationalists rallied for the carving of British India into two separate states: Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan. Gandhi, on the other hand, was against the country’s partition, instead advocating for a united India of all faiths. At the same time, the BJP and its supporters have been accused of downplaying the legacy of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, a longtime Gandhi admirer and ally. Modi has condemned Godse’s worship and continuously praised and paid his respect to Gandhi, both inside and outside of India.

A vessel carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Russia's Yamal LNG project, is seen at Rudong LNG Terminal in Nantong, Jiangsu province, China July 18, 2018. The key word Simonelli used is "destination," as it implies that LNG and natural gas are in the energy mix for a long time to come. The second bet is that the LNG industry will be able to convince government policymakers, companies and consumers that their fuel is better than the dirtier alternative of coal-fired generation. Overall, the industry is probably correct that energy demand, especially in Asia, is going to rise strongly in coming decades. But the LNG industry will also need to have policy settings just right and deploy technologies at a scale not yet seen to remain in the energy mix in a net-zero world.

Chains Move Up in the World
  + stars: | 2023-09-07 | by ( Nazanin Lankarani | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Chains, a foundational element of jewelry design, have been integral to crafting ornaments for as long as humans have been making interlocking rings to adorn our bodies. As Otto Jakob, a German master jeweler, said: “Chains are an archetype in jewelry, and they tell a symbolic and universal story with their own alphabet.”Evolving from Babylonian loop-in-loop techniques to the opulent pieces worn by medieval kings, from Coco Chanel’s gracefully draped chains to the chunky links embraced by rappers, chains have enjoyed an enduring appeal as a cornerstone of jewelry craftsmanship. This year, chains have been bold elements in both high jewelry and fine jewelry lines, reimagined as stand-alone pieces or pulling double duty to carry a pendant. Showcasing the artistry and imagination of their designers, these well-crafted pieces have gone from supporting to starring roles, becoming focal points in collections.

Sept 6 (Reuters) - Armenia said on Wednesday it would host a joint military exercise with the United States next week, a development likely to irritate Russia. The Armenian Defence Ministry said the purpose of the Sept. 11-20 "Eagle Partner 2023" exercise was to prepare its forces to take part in international peacekeeping missions. Russia has a military base in Armenia and sees itself as the pre-eminent power in the South Caucasus region, which until 1991 was part of the Soviet Union. It maintains a peacekeeping force in the region to uphold an agreement that ended a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020, the second they have fought since the Soviet collapse.
