It was one of two Senate seats up for grabs in the formerly reliably Republican state. Warnock won his current seat in last year's Georgia runoff election. With 96% of the votes counted in Georgia, the incumbent Democrat, Sen. Raphael Warnock, had 49.2% of the vote, with his Republican challenger Herschel Walker holding 48.7%. But just 69% of the ballots had been tabulated in Arizona, where many voters submitted ballots early, before Election Day. Ballots that were submitted at polling places on Tuesday will take days to have their signatures verified and counted. In Nevada, Republican challenger Adam Laxalt had 49.9% of the vote, compared with the 47.2% of the vote held by Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, the incumbent Democrat. Most of the ballots in the state will be mail-in votes, which have four days to arrive if they are postmarked by Election Day.

“We cannot move on from the 2020 election,” he said at a debate in April during the GOP primary. Marchant has said he would not have certified the 2020 results in the state, which Biden won. Republican Tudor Dixon — who has said the 2020 election was stolen — is running for governor against Democratic incumbent Gretchen Whitmer. Matthew DePerno, who is running for attorney general against Democratic incumbent Dana Nessel, has also repeatedly espoused debunked conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 election results in Michigan. DePerno has also argued that any Michigan resident should have the right to demand a vote audit of the state’s election results.

The extra time it takes to count mail ballots was responsible for many of the conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, because Republican-leaning Election Day votes came in first, while Democratic-leaning mail ballots were added to tallies later. Fortunately for anyone eager for results, provisional ballots were just one-eighth of 1% of ballots cast in 2020. Election officials may also re-canvass their results, a quicker process that involves repeating the work they did to reconcile and verify all their data.

Thirty-five Senate seats and all 435 House of Representatives seats are on the ballot. A Republican-controlled House would be able to block bills addressing Democratic priorities such as abortion rights and climate change. A Republican Senate, meanwhile, would hold sway over Biden's judicial nominations, including any Supreme Court vacancy. However, some Democrats in tough races have deliberately distanced themselves from the White House as Biden's popularity languishes. "Democracy is literally on the ballot," Biden said on Sunday at a rally in Yonkers, New York.

The lawsuits, filed in states with key races, mark the tail-end of a months-long legal push by Democrats and Republicans to define the rules for voting in Tuesday's election. Cobb County has been overnighting ballots to affected voters and estimated on Monday that 276 voters had yet to receive a ballot. Lawyers aligned with both Democrats and Republicans have brought waves of lawsuits over the rules for the upcoming election.
