The move to enforce a strict ban against women in church leadership comes as some evangelicals fear a liberal drift in their congregations and a departure from Scripture. On Tuesday, two of those churches, Fern Creek Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., and Saddleback Church in Southern California, appealed their expulsions before thousands of delegates at the annual convention in New Orleans. June 7 (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence will formally announce his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday, setting him up for a battle with the man he once loyally stood by - former President Donald Trump. He became disillusioned with the party while in college and inspired by former President Ronald Reagan, switched to the Republican Party. He ran for governor of Indiana in 2012, narrowly winning election, and assumed office in January 2013. TRUMP'S VICE PRESIDENTPence dropped out of his gubernatorial re-election bid in 2016 to become Trump's vice presidential running mate. As vice president, Pence oversaw the certification in his ceremonial role as president of the U.S. Senate.

CNN —Former Vice President Mike Pence announced he’s running for president on Wednesday, setting up a battle for the Republican nomination with his former boss, Donald Trump. In a launch video released ahead of his campaign kickoff later in the day in Iowa, Pence casts himself as a Reagan Republican seeking to return America to conservative principles. Though a loyal second-in-command to Trump, Pence broke with him by refusing to overturn the 2020 election results and presiding over Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s victory on January 6, 2021. An evangelical Christian, Pence was picked to be Trump’s running mate in the 2016 election in hopes of bolstering his standing among Christian conservatives. And although some Trump supporters have spurned Pence, other Republicans have applauded Pence for his actions on January 6.

The next 30 minutes of DeSantis’ speech then demonstrated how Biden might survive despite all the doubts about his performance and capabilities. In that way, DeSantis’ first swing through Iowa showed why Republicans are still at risk in 2024 from a key dynamic that dashed their hopes of a sweeping “red wave” in 2022. Many strategists in both parties believe that dynamic is most likely to recur in 2024 if the GOP nominates Trump. One reason, Republicans argue, is that the eventual nominee likely will talk about these issues less in a general election.
