The SALT deduction allows tax payers to deduct up to $10,000 of property, sales or income taxes that have already been paid to state and local governments. Historically, most of the tax payers who claim the deduction reside in high tax states such as New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and California. There was no cap on SALT prior to the Trump tax bill. Some of those recent conversations have featured Trump's new stance on bringing back the full SALT deduction, despite his bill being the cause for the $10,000 cap. Rep. Young Kim, R-Calif., told CNBC in a statement that the SALT cap is "hurting" her constituents and said Trump's most recent take on SALT shows he's listened to "Americans across the country hurting from the SALT cap."

PHOENIX — Members of an Arizona tribe are trying to persuade a federal judge to extend a temporary ban on exploratory drilling for a lithium project near lands they have used for religious and cultural ceremonies for centuries. The case is among the latest legal fights pitting Native American tribes and environmentalists against President Joe Biden’s administration as green energy projects encroach on lands that are culturally significant. The springs have served as a place of healing and prayer for generations, the tribe has said in court filings. Federal land managers also are expected to issue a draft environmental review of a lithium mine planned by Australian company Ioneer Ltd. between Reno and Las Vegas. "The mood among alternative data buyers and sellers is one of confidence," the report reads in a section about the expected "budget boom." AdvertisementAnd this boom might hurt hedge funds' wallets. Alternative datasets have become increasingly viewed as table stakes, shifting from "nice to have" to "need to have" internally. There's also a surge of interest in using alternative data backlogs to train AI models, giving long-running alternative data vendors another leg up in negotiations.
