"Return to the office is dead," Nick Bloom, an economics professor at Stanford University and expert on the work-from-home revolution, wrote this week. The share of paid work-from-home days has been "totally flat" this year, hovering around 28%, said Bloom in an interview with CNBC. "We are three and a half years in, and we're totally stuck," Bloom said of remote work. Why remote work has had staying powerThe initial surge of remote work was spurred by Covid-19 lockdowns and stay-at-home orders. While remote work is the labor market's new normal, there's significant variety from company to company, Pollak said.

Genetics likely played a large part in his health, an aging expert told Business Insider. Munger was a fan of donuts (in moderation), peanut brittle , and Diet Coke, and he avoided exercise as best he could, he said. "I'm eating this good peanut brittle," he told CNBC during an interview in February 2023. Munger favored peanut brittle by See's Candy, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. Stop being fooled by misinformation. Do this instead

It’s a text from your credit card company — someone is trying to purchase a $2,500 laptop using your account number. Be it finance, health care or politics, there is a global “infodemic” of misinformation that is affecting people’s health and well-being, according to the World Health Organization. “For most of the population who isn’t extreme in their attitudes, fact-checking and debunking reduces the degree to which people rely on falsehoods, but it doesn’t fully eliminate it,” van der Linden said. This approach works much like a vaccine, van der Linden said. “Instead of talking about immigration or abortion, talk about ‘Star Wars’ and ‘South Park’ as a starting point,” van der Linden said.

The purple-pink streak of light indicative of Steve is shown in this image captured by Canadian photographer Neil Zeller. “It can eventually migrate south … toward the equator side of aurora and form a Steve,” Lach said. A Steve will always appear alongside an aurora, Lach and Zeller said, but not all auroras include a Steve. The Steve phenomenon is most likely to be captured around the equinoxes in the spring and fall, according to Zeller and Lach. The photos contributed by members of the public constantly help scientists improve their understanding of these light shows, she said.

[1/3] An employee hiring sign is seen in a window of a business in Arlington, Virginia, U.S., April 7, 2023. So far, he said at a Boston Fed labor market conference earlier this month, measures like the employment-to-population ratio largely have not behaved differently for key racial groups, for women versus men, or among those with different education levels. Research has since tended to suggest that there may be untapped pools of labor that only become available when the job market is tight - an argument for keeping monetary policy looser than not. The labor market recovery so far has been "remarkably equitable," she said. Pandemic-era programs threw a safety net under many families, and the tight job market that has since developed helped many get a foothold, Rouse said.

Over 50 years ago, my wife, Malinda, and I bought a chef’s knife of carbon steel that we still use. Compare that to the junk stainless steel ones that might not rust but that won’t hold an edge to cut a tomato. The culprit: our overconsumption of stuff, from shoddy tools to fast fashion that is trendy one day, trash the next. Turning these and other raw materials into final products releases one-fifth of all carbon emissions. The evolutionary effects of redlining are percolating through urban wildlife populations, but they are not yet set in stone. Not only does the composition of wildlife differ between neighborhoods, but so does the incidence of people looking for wildlife. Diego Ellis Soto, a Ph.D. student at Yale, found that across the country, historically redlined neighborhoods were the least studied areas for bird diversity. Mr. Ellis Soto, who is from Uruguay, said he was shocked when he arrived in New Haven and saw how segregated the city was. “How can we protect what we don’t have information for?” Mr. Ellis Soto said.

The future of OpenAI, the start-up that quickly became a titan of the artificial intelligence industry after its release of ChatGPT last year, is in doubt. In a series of head-spinning developments over the last 24 hours, the company briefly considered and then rejected a proposal to bring Altman back. Shortly after, both Altman and Greg Brockman, a co-founder of OpenAI, were hired by Microsoft to run a new A.I. The upheaval is probably not over, and it could be a while before the new landscape of the A.I. industry is clear.

From a health perspective, people in places like the U.S., Canada and Europe eat far more meat, especially red meat and processed meat, than recommended. There’s no question that cutting back on meat consumption could have real and lasting effects. Meat consumption is “orders of magnitude higher” in the U.S. than in low-income countries, and meals are often centered around it. Despite those hurdles, certain interventions can cut meat consumption, research shows. Interventions described as “nudges,” or small choices aimed at influencing behavior, appear to be among the most effective at cutting meat consumption.
