The trick for the Saudis and the Russians is whether the global economy can withstand an oil price closer to $100 a barrel than the $70 level that prevailed in the middle of 2023. Asia's crude oil imports dropped to 25.05 million bpd in September, the weakest outcome this year and down from 25.22 million bpd in August and 27.92 million bpd in July, according to data compiled by LSEG. China's retail gasoline price has risen from 8.06 yuan ($1.15) a litre at the end of June to 9.04 yuan currently, an increase of 12%. The outlier is India, where retail prices have been kept steady despite being market-linked, at least in theory. WASHINGTON, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Bolstered by an infusion of new cash, Republican candidate Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid is diverting more resources to Iowa, including relocating key members of his team there, his campaign said on Wednesday. The moves reflect the crucial role Iowa, the state with the first Republican nominating contest on Jan. 15, plays for DeSantis. The Florida governor's campaign has essentially made it a win-or-bust state because he badly trails Republican frontrunner Donald Trump in opinion polls in Iowa and elsewhere. The DeSantis campaign on Wednesday reported raising $15 million during the third quarter, although not all of those funds will be available for use during the Republican primary. His campaign is planning to relocate about one-third of its staff, including aides who handle strategy and communications, to Iowa for the stretch run before the contest, the campaign said.

Google on Wednesday unveiled a next-generation Pixel smartphones lineup that will be infused with more artificial intelligence tools capable of writing captions about photos that can also be altered by the technology. As has become common across the industry, most of the other technology in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones unveiled Wednesday will be similar to what has already been available in last year’s models. One of the main selling points of the new phones will be improved cameras, including more AI-empowered editing tools that will mostly be available on the Pixel 8 Pro. That will result in the Pixel 8 selling for $700 and the Pixel 8 Pro for $1,000 when they go on sale in stores next week. Despite generally getting positive reviews, the Pixel phones have barely made a dent in a market dominated by Samsung and Apple since Google began making the devices seven years ago.
