Shares of Lilium tanked Thursday after the air taxi firm said in a filing that its two main subsidiaries will file for insolvency in the coming days. The German aerospace startup's shares plunged more than 60% before paring losses to 45% following the news. Lilium was seeking to raise 50 million euros ($54 million) of loans from the state coffers, however its request was rejected by lawmakers. In all, Lilium was trying to raise a convertible loan of 100 million euros. The subsidiaries' planned insolvency filings could result in Lilium ultimately delisting from the Nasdaq Global Select Market, or having its shares suspended.

CEO Kelly Ortberg has vowed to turn around the company and laid out a four-point plan. CEO Kelly Ortberg vowed to "return Boeing to its former legacy" and said the company would focus on changing its culture. However, restoring the traditional defined-benefit pension plan — replaced with a 401(k) in 2014 negotiations — has been a key issue for many on the picket lines. Bank of America analysts estimated that restoring this pension plan would cost up to $400 million annually. Boeing's production has been limited as it faces supply-chain constraints and renewed scrutiny from regulators in the wake of January's Alaska Airlines blowout.

The S & P 500 suffered its first three-day decline since early September. Chief market technician Jonathan Krinsky noted a "decent probability" the broad market index could fall as much as 5% to roughly 5,500 in coming weeks. The S & P 500 has pulled back this week from record highs reached just Oct. 17. Krinsky pointed to the recent move higher in Treasury yields as the key catalyst. Elsewhere on Wall Street this morning, JPMorgan reiterated Live Nation with an overweight rating and raised a $137 price target, implying upside of more than 19%.

The trajectory of mortgage rates may help determine what happens to down payments. Borrowing costs, savings rates sway down paymentsAny analysis of down payments that doesn't mention mortgage rates would be incomplete. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate hit a two-decade high of 7.8% last October and has steadily fallen for most of the last 12 months. AdvertisementBut there's a less rosy explanation for lower down payments: buyers can't afford to pay more. The personal savings rate in the US was 4.8% in August, according to Realtor.com, which was up from the inflation-stretched low of 2% in June 2022.

New York CNN —Sam’s Club has now entered the Thanksgiving meal deal wars. Sam’s Club on Thursday announced a Member’s Mark Thanksgiving meal, which feeds up to 10 people for under $100, made up of the warehouse club’s private label products. That follows Aldi, which released its lowest-priced Thanksgiving meal deal in five years, feeding 10 people for $47, or $4.70 per person. That is about $2 cheaper than a similar offer at Walmart, which owns Sam’s Club, which markets a meal to serve eight people for less than $7 per person. Unlike Aldi and Walmart’s turkey dinner, Sam’s Club is also offering to deliver the meal fully pre-cooked, ready to be heated up and served in under two hours.

But there are some weak points — like a growing federal debt load. There are a few less-rosy data points out there, like rising long-term unemployment and a historically high level of federal debt. Federal debt is high compared to GDP, even looking beyond the spike of the debt as a share of GDP during the pandemic. While federal debt as a share of GDP was slightly above 100% before the pandemic, recent figures are much higher than in the past. Federal debt was 120% of GDP in the second quarter of this year.

He lost 145 pounds — and had kept it off — by eating "whatever I wanted," but in smaller portions. They taught me about the kinds of healthy foods I should include in my diet, and I paid attention to them, but I didn't exercise. It was large enough to divide into three different servings, but I'd eat the whole thing plus the bread that came with it. I'd eat anything with a nice custard filling. CNN —Beyoncé will appear alongside Vice President Kamala Harris at a rally Friday in Houston, a person familiar with the planning tells CNN, the first joint appearance with the music icon whose anthem has been the soundtrack of the Harris campaign. The appearance, in which Beyoncé will appear with Willie Nelson, is designed to be one of the biggest closing acts of the campaign. Beyoncé all but gave her endorsement to Harris months ago, giving her permission to use her song “Freedom” as her official campaign anthem, CNN first reported in July. At one point, rumors of Beyoncé appearing at the Democratic convention threatened to overtake Harris’ acceptance speech. During her remarks, the vice president is expected to warn of the threat a second Trump term poses to women’s reproductive freedom.

Gomez and Alec HernándezJD Vance’s willingness to regularly take questions from mainstream news outlets has added an unofficial duty to his role as Donald Trump’s running mate: explainer-in-chief. That time Trump questioned whether Vice President Kamala Harris is really Black? “I think he pointed out the fundamental chameleon-like nature of Kamala Harris,” Vance contended. The sources all noted they did not have direct knowledge that this was a formal Trump campaign plan.

Sales fell in three out of four U.S. regions, with just the West region seeing a gain. Inventory rose 1.5% month to month to 1.39 million homes for sale at the end of September. That represents a 4.3-month supply at the current sales pace. Distressed property sales accounted for only 2% of all transactions in September.”The pressure of still low inventory continues to push prices higher. Israel’s war could set Gaza back 69 years, UN warns

CNN —The impact of Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip could erase “over 69 years of progress” in the enclave, the United Nations has warned in a new report, saying that measurement for indicators such as life expectancy, education, income and standard of living are projected to drop to a level estimated for 1955. Israel launched a war on Hamas in Gaza on October 7 last year after the group attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. The Israeli offensive has killed more than 42,000 people in Gaza, according to the health ministry there, displaced most of its people and flattened large swathes of the enclave. The UN report, which looks at estimates for the Palestinian territories as a whole, says that over 4 million people in them were affected by poverty in 2024, including 2.6 million newly impoverished people. This brings the poverty rate to 74.3% across the Palestinian territories, according to the report.

New York CNN —Denny’s is closing 150 restaurants over the next year, and the 71-year-old diner chain is mulling a major change to its 24/7 operating hours. A specific list of closing restaurants weren’t immediately announced. Denny’s is targeting “underperforming restaurants” that are weighing down the company’s financial performance, according to Steve Dunn, Denny’s executive vice president and chief global development officer. Since the pandemic, about a quarter of its restaurants have not returned to those around-the-clock hours, so Denny’s is easing up on the requirement for a franchise to do so. Denny’s joins a broader trend of restaurants slashing hours since the pandemic.
