Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday that climate change is one factor that's driving the price of insurance. "Climate change has created tremendous volatility, and it continues to evolve," Greenberg said. "And the concentrations of values in areas where, where the climate – the impact of the climate – is greatest continues to increase." Known for insuring businesses and wealthy individuals, Chubb is also a major insurer of agriculture, Greenberg said. "And so, therefore, reflecting loss cost, when you think general inflation, when you think climate change, when you think litigation, that is driving the pricing of insurance."

Read previewThere's a process for some private student-loan borrowers to get debt relief — but many of them might not know about it. In April, Business Insider first reported that Sen. Elizabeth Warren, along with eight of her Democratic colleagues, were calling on Navient — a major private student-loan company — to cancel "decades-old predatory private student loans" under consumer protection law. While some borrowers have started to receive the application from Navient, Warren and her colleagues still urged the company to automate the process and give private borrowers the same relief federal borrowers may have already received. Still, Warren wrote on X that the process should not be "wildly confusing" — and all private borrowers who qualify for debt relief if they were defrauded should have no problem getting it. Have you received an application for private student-debt relief from Navient, or are you still struggling to get relief?

What Ukraine Has Lost A drone photograph shows numerous severely damaged buildings with labels highlighting residential buildings, a football field and a high school. This is the first comprehensive picture of where the Ukraine war has been fought and the totality of the destruction. More buildings have been destroyed in Ukraine than if every building in Manhattan were to be leveled four times over. In mid-May, the Russians bombed some towns in northeastern Ukraine so ferociously that one resident said they were erasing streets. “No matter how unpatriotic it may sound, there’s not much future for her in Ukraine,” Ms. Hrushkovska said.

New York CNN —The New York Stock Exchange is investigating a technical issue on Monday as Berkshire Hathaway and dozens of other stocks are halted. NYSE said the technical issue is related to a mechanism designed to prevent stock prices from swinging wildly. Dozens of stocks are paused because they traded outside those so-called limit up-limit down bands, according to NYSE’s website. Joe Saluzzi, co-founder of Themis Trading, told CNN that the technical issues don’t appear to be impacting the broader market. However, Barrick Gold (GOLD), a Canadian gold and copper producer, was displayed as trading at just 25 cents — down 98.5% on the day, according to Refinitiv.

With short-term rates topping 5%, his massive cash pile, which had been an area of concern when rates were near zero, is now earning Berkshire a substantial return. The investment legend recently said he finds cash attractive compared to other assets, especially stocks. Berkshire's cash position may top $200 billion at the end of the second quarter, he added. With scientists predicting yet another active year for storms, making your home hurricane resistant has become a more valuable precaution. A slew of big-box retailers have lowered prices on items in recent weeks, citing moderating inflation and frugal customers. Recent economic data has also suggested that inflation is cooling, after data earlier this year spurred fears that progress had stalled. Yet Americans don’t seem convinced that inflation is moderating or that the economy is as healthy as indicators suggest. Mortgage rates have declined in recent weeks but remain near 7%. Target announced plans to cut prices on thousands of consumer basics as inflation cuts into household budgets.

CNN —Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and nearly two dozen Democrats pressed the Justice Department on Thursday to launch an industry-wide investigation into Big Oil for alleged collusion and price fixing. The lawmakers urged the DOJ to investigate the oil industry, “hold accountable any liable actors” and halt illegal activity.
