Becker, Minnesota CNN —The smokestacks on the aging Sherco coal power plant tower over gleaming solar panels that stretch across thousands of acres of farmland. The polluting coal plant is on its way out, scheduled for retirement in the next five years. Experts say this is the secret to solving America’s clean energy dilemma: There is more electricity from clean energy waiting to get connected to the grid than the entire amount of energy currently on the grid. A view of Sherco power plant, which has been operating since the 1970s and is slated for full retirement by 2030. But the reality is, it’s there.”From super-polluters to clean energy juggernautsThe answer to supercharging clean energy could lie inside some of the most polluting power plants in the US.

CNN —There’s no political playbook for how to deal with another apparent assassination attempt against a major-party presidential candidate within weeks of an election. The second apparent assassination attempt comes against the backdrop of a turbulent campaign that has defied convention and predictions. Another apparent attempt on his life is likely to have some level of personal impact on the former president. In normal circumstances, an apparent assassination attempt against a presidential candidate might be expected to unleash a surge of sympathy that could translate into a political boost. But it’s too early to say whether the second apparent assassination attempt will have greater political impact than the first.

WASHINGTON — The Harris campaign is launching its largest effort yet to reach Latino voters, with new spending on Spanish-language radio and an organizing push around boxing matches and baseball games as National Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off this weekend. Vice President Kamala Harris will address the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s annual conference on Wednesday, according to a senior campaign official, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is expected to pitch Latino voters in swing states in the coming weeks. The Harris campaign is also planning to host gatherings around Mexican Independence Day on Monday, including voter contact events at churches. The Harris campaign is especially focused on reaching undecided Latino voters who may be persuaded by some of Trump’s economic message.

Trump even muddled the most basic attack on connecting Harris to Biden, claiming at one point that Biden "hates" his own vice president. Trump, an acolyte of Roy Cohn, forgot the controversial lawyer's most famous adage to "Attack, Attack, Attack" when he needed it the most. And as he did, all night, Trump took the bait, spending the first part of his rebuttal defending the money his father gave him. Harris continues to have a slight lead in the major national polling averages, but the race remains even closer in key swing states. After reversing himself many times, Trump declared before the weekend that he would not debate Harris again.

Michigan and Wisconsin are looking like the best of the bunch for Harris, according to the campaign’s internal numbers. As pumped as Harris aides are about her debate performance earlier this week, they don’t think it changed any of that. “There’s a quiet confidence and security in what we’re doing and the mission, but no one thinks we have this in the bag,” said a Harris campaign aide. We’ll definitely be having some fun,” an Obama aide told CNN. The former president will kick off his work at a fundraiser he’s hosting for Harris next week in Los Angeles.

In today’s edition, we report on how Kamala Harris' media strategy is (and isn't) changing following the debate. The campaign said Harris plans to do more interviews with media in battleground states and speak more with her traveling press corps in the coming days. Her campaign’s media strategy has largely been a continuation of Biden’s, which is to minimize interactions with the media. Right after the debate, Trump held a sprawling, ad hoc press conference in the “spin” room, surrounded by hundreds of journalists who formed a ring around him. The simple rules of postgame sports commentary often apply to politics: When you win, you don’t have to spin.

The campaign said Harris plans to do more interviews with local media in battleground states and speak more with her traveling press corps in the coming days. Her campaign’s media strategy has largely been a continuation of Biden’s, which is to minimize interactions with the media. Some allies said that Harris should use the momentum from the debate to change her cadence of interviews. “I don’t think you can hide for 56 more days from media interviews,” said one Democratic strategist, requesting anonymity to speak candidly. The Harris campaign also held a call that day, but it was off the record.

CNN —WNBA star Caitlin Clark hinted at her political beliefs ahead of this year’s US election by liking a social media post from Taylor Swift endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, but she stopped short of endorsing a candidate when asked by reporters on Wednesday. Clark was one of more than 10 million people to like the post but stopped short of formally endorsing Harris herself. “I have this amazing platform, so I think the biggest thing would be to just encourage people to register to vote,” Clark told reporters on Wednesday, when asked about her decision to like the post. “That’s the biggest thing I can do with the platform that I have and that’s the same thing Taylor (Swift) did. “Continue to educate yourself on the candidates that we have, the policies that they’re supporting – I think that’s the biggest thing you can do.

Shortly after Tuesday night's ABC News presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift posted her long-awaited endorsement of Harris' campaign on Instagram. At the time, he said he had "no idea" about Swift's endorsement. He had more to say on Wednesday, however, when he told "Fox & Friends" that he isn't "a Taylor Swift fan." Despite his criticism of Swift, Trump has previously tried to use the pop star in his campaign messaging. For their part, the Harris-Walz campaign wasted no time churning out merch after Swift's endorsement — launching a pack of two friendship bracelets for $20.

David Dee Delgado | ReutersDETROIT – Stellantis ' U.S. dealer network has joined the United Auto Workers union in criticizing CEO Carlos Tavares for the company's recent sales declines, factory production cuts and other decisions they deem detrimental to the automaker's business. "The market share of your brands has been slashed nearly in half, Stellantis stock price is tumbling, plants are closing, layoffs are rampant, and key executives fleeing the company. We will continue to work with our dealers to avoid any public disputes that will delay our ability to deliver results." Stellantis reported a record profit in 2023, but so far this year, the automaker reported a first-half net profit of 5.6 billion euros ($6.07 billion), down 48% from the same period of 2023. Angel Sobolewski doesn’t take political advice from pop stars — not even her favorite, Taylor Swift. Some right-leaning Swift fans had expected those statements. On Wednesday, in an interview with “Fox & Friends,” Trump responded to Swift’s endorsement, saying, “I was not a Taylor Swift fan. The majority of us, however, live in a very different world than Taylor Swift,” the post read in part. Harris is expected to attend a service at the Memorial plaza at ground zero in New York City, as is Trump, according to a source familiar with his plans. Harris and Biden — and Trump — will then travel to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, home of the Flight 93 memorial. Tim Walz, is expected to commemorate the 9/11 anniversary in his home state. In 2016, Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton attended a 15th anniversary service, but Clinton departed abruptly and appeared unsteady as she left. Trump, a New York native, did not attend the memorial in 2021, making stops instead at a police station and a firehouse.

PHILADELPHIA — Former President Donald Trump found out Tuesday night that he's got a much tougher rival on his hands now. Harris, eager to portray herself as different from both Trump and Biden, reminded him that Biden won't be on the ballot. Trump said Harris has had 3½ years to make the changes she promises to make and argued the Biden-Harris administration squandered progress Trump gave them. Trump and Harris also clashed over the 2020 election, with Trump again falsely claiming that he won. Throughout the debate, Harris needled Trump in ways that undermined his self-image as a popular, strong leader whom American’s adversaries fear.

Pop superstar Taylor Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential candidacy on Tuesday night after the high-stakes debate with former President Donald Trump, calling the Democratic nominee a "steady-handed, gifted leader." "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," Swift said in a post on Instagram to her more than 283 million followers. Swift's endorsement came as a surprise to the Harris campaign, two campaign officials told NBC News. Swift threw her support behind President Joe Biden and Harris during the 2020 presidential election. In the Instagram post, Swift also criticized social media users who have circulated images generated by artificial intelligence falsely stating that she had endorsed the Trump-Vance ticket.

The Harris campaign, exuding confidence after Harris baited Trump on stage Tuesday night, immediately said she would agree to a second debate with the ex-president. “When you win the debate, I don’t, I don’t know that I want to do another debate,” Trump said in a phone interview Wednesday morning on Fox News. Speaking with the hosts of “Fox & Friends,” Trump insulted Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, the two anchors that Fox has pitched as potential debate moderators in October. The Harris campaign, however, wants the vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance to happen next. Trump on Wednesday also assailed ABC after the debate moderators fact-checked the former president in real-time during the prime time Philadelphia matchup.

Last night, left-leaning Swifties everywhere breathed a sigh of relief: Taylor Swift finally endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for president. Two officials told NBC News they had no idea Swift's endorsement was coming — her running mate, Tim Walz, even found out on live TV — but they were definitely ready for it. (A representative for Swift didn't respond to a request for comment from BI.) Swift didn't officially endorse Biden until October 7, less than one month before the 2020 election. As Swift herself said in her endorsement post, "The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth."
