Comparing the timing of seismic signals as they touched the core revealed changes in core rotation over time, confirming the 70-year rotation cycle. But the depth and inaccessibility of the inner core mean that uncertainties remain, she added. The mysterious region where the liquid outer core envelops the solid inner core is especially interesting, Vidale added. “We might have volcanoes on the inner core boundary, for example, where solid and fluid are meeting and moving,” he said. Because the spinning of the inner core affects movement in the outer core, inner core rotation is thought to help power Earth’s magnetic field, though more research is required to unravel its precise role.

Currently, a 40% federal estate tax applies to estate values topping $13.61 million for individuals and $27.22 million for married couples. When someone dies, their heirs have nine months to file a federal estate tax return if their inheritance meets those minimums. Here's how a Graegin loan could work in practice, according to Doyle:Related storiesHeirs of a $10 million estate could be on the hook for $4 million in federal estate taxes. The taxable estate is $1 million less, which means the family will save $400,000 in estate taxes considering the 40% tax rate. More households will be on the hook for estate taxes, and loans to pay them could become more popular.

The social media app is the brainchild of 27-year-old serial founder and investor Tiffany "TZ" Zhong, whose tech career took off in her late-teens. Instead of stressing over carefully curated posts, the app encourages users to share their stream-of-consciousness thoughts directly to the feed. According to its App Store description, it aims to harken back to the social media era before "algos and ads" took over. She particularly follows the behavior of Noplace's "power users," some of whom even spend between eight and 10 hours on the app, Zhong said. And at a time when social media platforms are prioritizing entertainment over social interactions, Noplace feels timely.

I had a mom-fail moment when I realized I hadn't registered my 4-year-old son for swimming lessons and summer camp before the cutoff. We had frozen pizza for dinner, and he went to sleep without a fight, tired after a long day of playing outside. When I was a kid, it was during those long, boring summer afternoons that I formed my love of reading. California is likely to be especially hard hit, with highs passing 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius) in many areas. For instance, chicken should be cooked to an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit, and ground beef should be cooked to at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit. That applies to cooked meat like hamburgers as well as perishable salads like potato salad and cole slaw. Not only can raw milk harbor bacteria, but it is also possible that raw milk can transmit the bird flu. It wasn’t advisable for people to drink raw milk or consume products made from raw milk prior to the bird flu outbreak, and it certainly is not advisable now.

A job French people don’t want? Half of the 86,000-plus chefs in the French capital are immigrants, according to data published by the French National Institute of Statistic and Economic Studies in 2022. Often in Paris, the kitchens are very small, so it’s a very strenuous job,” Mousson said. “For a small business like us, we cannot afford to hire multiple people in the kitchen,” Mousson said. While it remains to be seen if the party can capture an absolute majority in the French National Assembly, it will almost certainly become the biggest force in the new parliament.

But Benally – like 13,000 families in roughly a third of Navajo Nation households – is still off the electrical grid. But while private companies tapped those resources in the 20th century to help electrify areas around the Southwest, the Navajo Nation reaped few benefits. Whatever its ultimate effect on the campaign, the first presidential debate of 2024 certainly did not cast the United States in a favorable light. It featured two elderly men — one 81, one 78 — who insulted each other and who most Americans wished were not the two major-party candidates for president. The other struggled at times to describe his own policies or complete his sentences. “I am worried about the image projected to the outside world,” Sergey Radchenko, a historian at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, wrote on social media. “It’s important to manage one’s ride into the sunset,” Sikorski tweeted.

Rare purple pigment found in Bronze Age pottery
  + stars: | 2024-06-29 | by ( Ashley Strickland | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
CPA Media Pte Ltd/Alamy Stock PhotoAncient Greeks and the Romans considered Tyrian purple, first developed in the Bronze Age, an elite, royal color. But the recipe for the long-lasting pigment, made using Mediterranean sea snails, disappeared with the fall of the Byzantine Empire. Now, researchers have found the precious pigment within pottery fragments containing 3,600-year-old purple dye from a Bronze Age workshop in Kolonna on the Greek island of Aegina. Life for a vulnerable child in the Stone Age would have been difficult because Neanderthals moved from place to place.
