SHENZHEN, China — Chinese vendor Yin Xinwei sometimes makes close to $1,400 a day selling low-priced pill boxes, barbecue spits and other items to U.S. online consumers. Each year hundreds of millions of packages, mostly from Chinese platforms, are sent directly to American consumers eager to take advantage of rock-bottom prices on clothing, electronics and other products. That could mean painful times ahead for the Chinese sellers that supply the platforms — and higher prices for American consumers. Chinese state media has criticized the proposal as protectionist and say it will hurt American consumers. Yin used to sell to Chinese consumers but has given up his domestic business to focus entirely on the overseas market.

Trump’s promised business tax cuts come alongside his suite of targeted tax relief for individuals, a list that continues to grow. Trump used tariffs, in part, to help boost American manufacturing. Reducing the corporate tax rateTrump has long wanted to reduce the corporate tax rate to below 21%. It will force owners of successful companies to sell their businesses to raise the cash to pay the tax, Trump said. Notably, the tax cut law temporarily created a special deduction for the owners of certain pass-through entities who pay business taxes on their individual tax returns.

Each of the efforts, in varying ways, faces obstacles. The nation’s top leader, Xi Jinping, will need close cooperation from border countries, some of which are politically volatile, like Kyrgyzstan, or internationally isolated, like North Korea. Neighboring countries that have long been wary of China, like Vietnam, will need to be reassured. But others have warned of Chinese domination of the Laotian economy. The new initiatives would also be expensive, and China has begun emphasizing smaller Belt and Road projects elsewhere.

The U.S. Justice Department on Tuesday sued Visa , the world's biggest payments network, saying it propped up an illegal monopoly over debit payments by imposing "exclusionary" agreements on partners and smothering upstart firms. "Merchants and banks pass along those costs to consumers, either by raising prices or reducing quality or service," Garland said. "As a result, Visa's unlawful conduct affects not just the price of one thing – but the price of nearly everything." The truth about promotions

That was obviously a bad idea, and since then, we've spent a century and a half honing the art and science of promotions. To study promotions, the researchers conducted a series of clever experiments. But in other groups, managers were selected based on their own preferences. What did much better at predicting good managers was intelligence, as measured by a common IQ test. "Don't think, well, they like to talk, and therefore they're going to be a good manager."

“We are very committed to making sure that Americans have access at an affordable price point for our medicines,” Jorgensen replied. Similarly, Wegovy’s list price is $1,349 in the US, but it costs $186 in Denmark, $140 in Germany and $92 in the United Kingdom, he said. Tuesday’s hearing boiled down to a familiar argument over who is responsible for the US’s higher prices: drug companies that set starting – or “list” – prices or pharmacy benefit managers, the middlemen that negotiate discounts on those list prices in exchange for favorable insurance coverage and access. Jorgensen said Novo Nordisk pays back about 75% of its medicine sales in rebates, discounts and fees, so the net price it receives is far lower than the list price. “The broad totality is that less patients have access to our medicines when we lowered the price,” Jorgensen told Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, after she pressed him to reduce list prices.

The funds target distributions equal to six times the dividend payouts on the Nasdaq-100 Index and four times the S & P 500 dividend, respectively. The idea behind the Pacer funds is that the funds will capture more of that upside during market rallies, according to Sean O'Hara, president at Pacer ETF Distributors. The QDPL's website currently shows a distribution yield of 5.79%, or more than four-times the roughly 1.3% dividend yield on the S & P 500, according to YCharts.com. The dividend futures could also see bigger gains if more companies in the index decide to start paying dividends. To be sure, the dividend futures contracts could also decrease in value during times of economic stress.

Raspberry Pi, the British computer company that floated in June, reported on Tuesday stronger-than-expected adjusted earnings of $20.9 million for the first half, sending its shares up 7% in early trade. The group, which produces low-cost single-board computers and microcontrollers, said it sold marginally fewer devices than it expected, but sales were skewed towards higher margin products, boosting profitability. Its flagship Raspberry Pi5,which retails for 46.60 pounds ($62.24) for the 2GB model, sold 1.1 million units in the six months to the end of June, it said. It said it expected volumes to increase in the second half, supported by product launches, but the mix would result in margins returning to lower levels and it kept its expectations for the year unchanged.

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally at Johnny Mercer Theatre in Savannah, Georgia, on Sept. 24, 2024. If implemented, this proposal would reverse a major component of Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which phased out traditional R&D tax credits. Starting in 2022, businesses were no longer allowed to write off their R&D expenses the same year they incurred them. The former president also said he would appoint a specialized "manufacturing ambassador" if he wins a second term in the White House. Trump also doubled down on his hardline approach to trade, saying he would impose a "100% or 200% tariff" on cars imported from Mexico.

New York CNN —The US Justice Department filed a lawsuit Tuesday accusing Visa of illegally monopolizing the debit card market. The antitrust suit is one of several major actions taken by the Justice Department recently. It also comes just three years after the Justice Department sued to block Visa from merging with financial technology startup Plaid. According to the new complaint against Visa, which was filed in federal court in New York, more than 60% of debit transactions in the country take place on Visa’s debit network. Visa, in turn, is able to charge more than $7 billion in processing fees on those transactions, the department says.
