Private jet flights fell 15% in the first half of the year compared with their peak in 2022, as the industry grapples with waning demand and a new competitive landscape for high-end travel. Despite a short boost from the Summer Olympics, with a record 713 private jet flights to Paris the last week of July, the private jet industry continues to lose altitude this travel season. Jet It, a large U.S. private jet operator, shut down last year after grounding its fleet of Phenom 300s, Gulfstream G150s and HondaJets. Private jet passengers who paid six figures for flights started facing delays and cancellations as operators couldn’t buy or lease planes fast enough. “Prices are about 20% higher than they were in 2019,” Private Jet Card Comparisons' Gollan said.

The team then tracked the prices of the recommended stocks from the day the videos were posted up until June 21, 2024. The most profit that an investor could have generated from a single stock would have been Nvidia, which grew 63.08% in the period surveyed. If a person invested $1,000 in every stock recommended in the one video that got the most bets right, the gains would have amounted to $4,860. On the other hand, putting money into all the stocks recommended in the video that got most bets wrong would have led to a loss of $1,517. watch nowConsumer spending held up even better than expected in July as inflation pressures showed more signs of easing, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Advanced retail sales accelerated 1% on the month, according to numbers that are adjusted for seasonality but not inflation. Excluding auto-related items, sales increased 0.4%, also better than the 0.1% forecast. Miscellaneous retailers saw a plunge of 2.5% while gas stations saw receipts climb just 0.1% and clothing stores were down 0.1%. There was one counterpoint to that in another data release Thursday in which the Labor Department said import prices increased 0.1% in July, slightly ahead of the forecast for no change.

You know, Hillary Clinton, who was, I think, kind of a terrible candidate, won the popular vote by two points. So I don’t think they gave her a very good hand to play. It doesn’t matter who you are, it matters that you’re right and you’re able to prove it or bet on it in some way. What wasn’t in the Harris model that should have been?” “Yeah, maybe you really can meme your way to victory. And there’s something in it that I don’t think she can explain how she does it, but it makes her a fascinating leader.

Prices rose more than 1% in the previous session. "Prices will benefit if the U.S. inflation data comes in on the softer side of the ledger, which would reignite hopes of an aggressive rate cut from the Fed in September." The CPI data is expected to show that headline and core prices rose 0.2% month-on-month. Markets see about 50% chance of a 50 basis point rate cut in September, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. "If markets become more optimistic of a 50 bp cut coming to fruition, this could propel the gold price to make a run at the $2,500 level," Waterer said.

Starbucks sent shockwaves through the business world on Tuesday with its announcement that Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol would take the same role at the coffee chain, replacing Laxman Narasimhan. While Starbucks shareholders and Wall Street rejoiced , it's a double-edged sword for Tengler as a holder of both stocks. "While I cheered the move of Brian to Starbucks this morning, I mourned it at the loss at Chipotle." To be sure, Starbucks investors had to go through pain to get to this point. Heading into Tuesday's opening bell, the stock was down about 22% compared with when Narasimhan, the outgoing Starbucks CEO, took over in March 2023.

A charity working with homeless people in Auckland, New Zealand unknowingly distributed candies filled with potentially lethal doses of methamphetamine in its food parcels after the sweets were donated by a member of the public. The City Missioner, Helen Robinson, said eight families, including at least one child, had reported consuming the contaminated candies since Tuesday. Auckland City Mission was alerted Tuesday by a food bank client who reported “funny-tasting” candy. It was not clear how many had been distributed in that time and how many were made of methamphetamine. Some of those who had received the food parcels were clients of the charity’s addiction service and the news that drugs had been distributed had provoked distress.

"If economic fears continue to fade and the market becomes more micro-driven in coming months, then the recent sell-off represents an attractive opportunity to buy stocks with healthy fundamentals at valuation discounts," wrote Goldman chief U.S. equity strategist David Kostin and team in a note to clients Friday. Goldman screened for stocks that have seen their earnings estimates ratchet up since the start of the third quarter, but posted weak relative returns during the last week. Goldman noted that cyclical stocks underperformed defensive names last week, showing that "macro" is driving equity returns. Once investors' focus returns to normal, stocks with strong fundamentals and valuations like those on this list will start to benefit, the firm argues. "If the data confirm our economists' optimistic view, investors will likely pivot back to focusing on alpha opportunities rather than market betas."

The recent sell-off in stocks could be a warning sign for what's coming for the economy, Mark Mobius said. If you look at the money supply growth in America, it is very low now," he said. We have more problems in the US and, that will affect the global situation unless the money supply is increased much more than it is now." Disruptions in the stock market are usually the signal "before the actual economic effects are seen," he added.
