Giuliani never acknowledged or condemned the racism of the police riot. His performance galvanized supporters and almost certainly contributed to his narrow victory over Dinkins in his rematch with the incumbent mayor in 1993. What does any of this have to do with the Rudy Giuliani of 2023? Well, if we think of Giuliani as the personification of American resilience in the face of terrorism, then his turn against democracy and the rule of law is bewildering and inexplicable. Even at the moment of his greatest political triumph, Giuliani was a fraught and divisive figure.

Giuliani helped Purdue Pharma strike a deal with the government to keep selling the drug. Purdue Pharma hired Giuliani back in 2002, representing the first client his consulting firm ever landed, The New York Times reported in 2007. By getting Brownlee to agree to prosecute the parent company, Purdue Frederick, rather than Purdue Pharma, Giuliani and his team were also able to prevent a ban against Purdue Pharma doing future business with the federal government, which manages public health programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and the Veterans Administration health system, The Guardian reported. Under our settlement, Purdue Pharma would cease to exist and Knoa Pharma, a newly formed company with a public-minded mission, would emerge. The settlement would deliver over $10 billion of value for opioid crisis abatement, overdose rescue medicines, and victim compensation."

But if the Republican Party is no longer in Reagan’s image, it’s not necessarily a populist-conservative MAGA monolith, either. But if the Republican Party isn’t quite a MAGA monolith, what is it? The groups were defined by how Republican-leaning voters felt on the issues — not how they felt about Mr. Trump. In fact, Mr. Trump leads Mr. DeSantis among every group of Republican voters identified in the analysis. They’re the smallest group of Republicans today, but this group of relatively moderate but anti-woke voters might play an important role in the Republican Party in the years ahead.

Rudy Giuliani sought former President Donald Trump's help with paying his legal bills, per CNN. CNN said Giuliani and his lawyer made a personal visit to Trump in Mar-a-Lago in recent months. An unnamed source told CNN that Trump wasn't very keen to help Giuliani. One of the sources told CNN that the pair believed they could better explain to Trump why he needed to help with Giuliani's legal bills at a physical meeting. A source told CNN that while Trump said he would help with Giuliani's legal bills, he did not commit to any timeline or pledge a specific amount.

The former president is also expected to try to move the case to federal court, according to multiple sources familiar with his legal team’s thinking. Successfully transferring their cases to federal court could provide some key advantages. Should the case actually go to trial in the federal court, Trump and Meadows or others could end up with a jury pool more sympathetic than the one they might get from around Atlanta, where the state courthouse for this case is based. Trump and Meadows could also argue in federal court that they are protected because their efforts were part of their official duties as president and White House chief of staff, respectively. He’s citing a federal law that allows civil action or criminal prosecution to be removed to federal court if the lawsuit or prosecution relates to conduct performed “under color” of a US office or agency.

A lawsuit claims Rudy Giuliani was paid $300,000 while pitching investors on an anti-Biden film. Giuliani allegedly said it would be a "kill shot" that would sink Joe Biden's campaign. By then, Giuliani was hard at work trying to dig up election-year dirt on Joe Biden in his capacity as President Trump's personal attorney. Giuliani, the lawsuit alleges, asked for the farmers' help finance efforts to make sure Trump was elected to a second term. The aborted Giuliani film project also forms part of a whistleblower disclosure from Johnathan Buma, an FBI special agent whose allegations were first reported by Insider.

In the sprawling indictment, Powell — a lawyer and known conspiracy theorist — was charged with conspiracy to commit election fraud and accused of attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia. The picture he painted in the Georgia House was as vivid as it was dishonest. “This is going to be the election that will be the dirtiest election, the most crooked election, the most manipulated election in American history,” Mr. Giuliani said at a third December appearance in front of the Georgia legislature. “Georgia is going to be at the center of it because you have what I call the Zapruder film. After Georgia’s secretary of state’s office proved his most serious charges patently false, Mr. Giuliani’s accusations began to irk Trump campaign officials. Legal experts told Insider that some of them might flip on Trump and cooperate with the prosecution. "It's not surprising to see unindicted co-conspirators," Anna Cominsky, an associate professor of law and the director of the Criminal Defense Clinic at New York Law School, told Insider. She said that some unindicted co-conspirators will never be charged "for whatever reason, perhaps there they're not known. "The other reason why those individuals may not be charged is because they're cooperating," Cominsky said. "There are all kinds of reasons to do that," Tobias told Insider.

CNN —With his attorney in tow, Rudy Giuliani traveled to Mar-a-Lago in recent months on a mission to make a personal and desperate appeal to former President Donald Trump to pay his legal bills. Giuliani and Costello traveled to Florida in late April where they had two meetings with Trump to discuss Giuliani’s seven-figure legal fees, making several pitches about how paying Giuliani’s bills was ultimately in Trump’s best interest. After Costello made his pitch, Trump verbally agreed to help with some of Giuliani’s legal bills without committing to any specific amount or timeline. Another source told CNN that Trump only agreed to cover a small fee from a data vendor hosting Giuliani’s records. At the Wednesday court hearing in the Smartmatic case, Giuliani attorney Adam Katz said, “These are a lot of bills that he’s not paying.

Washington CNN —A Georgia indictment of former President Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election lists at least 27 lies Trump told about the election – and that’s counting conservatively. A federal indictment in early August, which also charged Trump for his efforts to subvert the will of the voters, listed 21 of his election lies. Trump’s lie that he was the real winner of the 2020 election. Trump’s lie that “about 4,502” people voted in Georgia even though they weren’t on the voter registration list. Trump’s lie that “as many as 2,560 felons with an uncompleted sentence” were permitted to vote in Georgia.

They were the latest members of the former president’s inner circle to find out that associating with Trump could put them on cracking legal ice. There is increasing speculation over why Meadows was charged in Georgia but not in special counsel Jack Smith’s federal investigation into Trump’s election stealing efforts. Legal experts wonder whether he could be cooperating with that probe in a sign of peril for the former president. Trump’s inner circles have long faced legal problemsTrump’s co-defendants in the Georgia case are not the first to find out that the ex-president’s intolerance for the rules and conventions that normally constrain presidencies can lead them into treacherous waters. Trump once vowed to bring only “the best people” to Washington, but his acolytes often find themselves dragged into his legal storms.

Michael Cohen is relishing the the fact that Rudy Giuliani has been charged with RICO violations. Giuliani and Trump were among 19 defendants indicted in a sprawling RICO case earlier this week. Michael Cohen, who pleaded guilty to an array of felonies in 2018 and was sentenced to three years in prison as a result, told Insider in a text message. He was referring to former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was charged with RICO violations and a slew of other crimes in connection to Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. "I see Michael Cohen is keeping it classy as always," Ted Goodman, a political advisor to Giuliani, said in response to Cohen's comments.

Donald Trump's advisors say he's is "very upset" that Rudy Giuliani was indicted, Maggie Haberman told CNN. Giuliani was indicted alongside Trump in Georgia on Monday night over their attempt to overturn the 2020 election. "One of the ironies right now in the situation around Donald Trump is you will hear some of his advisors say 'He's really upset that Rudy got indicted,' or, leading into this, 'He was really worried about Rudy,'" Haberman told Collins. "But not so worried that he was going to pay Giuliani's legal bills," Haberman said. "According to my reporting, it was Trump who didn't want Giuliani paid unless Giuliani delivered on his promises, and obviously that didn't happen," Haberman said.

The main requirements under the federal RICO law are at least two underlying crimes and participation in a criminal enterprise over a long period of time. WHY ARE PROSECUTORS USING RICO? That means prosecutors would not necessarily have to prove Trump personally broke the law but knowingly coordinated with others who did. RICO cases are inherently more complex because prosecutors must first prove the existence of a criminal enterprise. Prosecutors will need to prove that Trump and his co-defendants worked together towards a common criminal purpose, which is not always as straightforward as proving an underlying RICO crime.

Mark Meadows, Trump's former White House chief of staff, and lawyers Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman were among those charged. "Rather than abide by Georgia's legal process for election challenges, the defendants engaged in a criminal, racketeering enterprise to overturn Georgia's presidential election result," Willis said at a press conference. A third indictment, in Washington federal court, accuses him of illegally seeking to overturn his 2020 election defeat. Trump persists in falsely claiming he won the November 2020 election although dozens of court cases and state probes have found no evidence to support his claim. Willis's investigation drew on testimony from Trump advisers including Giuliani, who urged state lawmakers in December 2020 not to certify the election, and Republican state officials like Raffensperger and Governor Brian Kemp, who refused to echo Trump's false election claims.

"Trump and the other defendants charged in this indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump," the indictment said. A third indictment, in Washington federal court, accuses him of illegally seeking to overturn his 2020 election defeat. Trump denies wrongdoing in this case as well, and a trial date has yet to be set. Willis's investigation drew on testimony from Trump advisers including Giuliani, who urged state lawmakers in December 2020 not to certify the election, and Republican state officials like Raffensperger and Governor Brian Kemp, who refused to echo Trump's false election claims. A Georgia grand jury indicted Donald Trump over his attempts to overturn 2020 election results. Trump, then the president, asked Georgia's secretary of state to "find" votes ensuring he'd win. A Georgia grand jury indicted Donald Trump on charges related to his effort to overturn the 2020 election. After reportedly making 18 attempts to contact Raffensperger, Trump and his team finally got through to him. Rudy Giuliani arriving at a courthouse in Atlanta to face questions from the special grand jury. That special grand jury completed a report earlier this year summarizing their findings and making charging recommendations to the Fulton County District Attorney's office. Some of those fake electors have reportedly accepted immunity deals with prosecutors in the months since the completion of the special grand jury report.
