If you plan to add a smart display to your setup as a smart home hub, I don't recommend the Show 5. If you're looking for a smart display that's big enough to enjoy movies on, the Echo Show 10 or Echo Show 15 would be a better option. The Echo Show 5 is a great smart display, but may be too small to cover all of your needs. Sarah Saril/InsiderIf you want to build out your Alexa smart home or just get started, the Echo Show 5 is an excellent smart display for basic needs. But if you need something compact or don't want to spend extra, the Echo Show 5 is a solid entry-level smart display and a worthy option for any smart home.

One, sports fans will go to great lengths (including piracy) to find the content they're looking for. The NFL has done, I think, a really good job of continuing to evolve their product to make it as TV-friendly as it can be. Brian Fuhrer, senior vice president at NielsenThe NFL also benefits from the deference that networks show the league. Broadcast's core audience is typically older, so when NFL games come on in the fall it draws younger viewers back in. But even if things aren't as good for the NFL, they're still going to be pretty good — and a lot better, ratings-wise, than anything else.

Streaming companies turned a blind eye to password-sharing for years. Users of the family-oriented streaming platform received emails this week notifying them of changes to the terms of service. The new terms note that different service tiers may permit some degree of password-sharing — if you're willing to pay. Disney's updated terms of service are almost identical to those of Hulu and ESPN+, which were also announced on January 25. Iger's comments came in the wake of Netflix's successful crackdown earlier last year, when the streaming giant announced it would start charging $8 for users outside the household.

Why Is Big Tech Still Cutting Jobs?
  + stars: | 2024-02-05 | by ( Tripp Mickle | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
After a year of big layoffs, job cuts at the tech industry’s largest companies trickled into the first month of 2024. Google started the year with layoffs of several hundred employees and a promise of more cuts to come. Amazon followed by trimming hundreds of jobs in its Prime Video department. Microsoft also cut 1.900 jobs in its video game division. That disconnect, tech insiders and analysts say, is reflective of an industry facing two big challenges: coming to terms with frenetic work force expansion during the pandemic while also making an aggressive move into building artificial intelligence.

"Netflix won the streaming wars in 2009 when they started streaming," said Tim Nollen, a media analyst at Macquarie. "I think it's a little bit ridiculous, to be honest," Bazinet said when asked if Netflix has won the streaming wars. The two biggest threats right now are Disney — which has about 220 million subscribers across Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ — and Amazon. Nollen said Amazon would flood the market with cheap ads and crush its competition like it did in e-commerce.
