As a psychologist who studies narcissism, I've found that, in most cases, highly narcissistic people are masters of gaslighting. Here are six phrases that they always use — and how to deal with them:1. "I don't want to make this about me, but..."Statements like this show that narcissistic people know they shouldn't dominate the conversation, yet they do it anyway. With this phrase, they're implying that your feelings are your issues alone, and that they'll take no responsibility for their behavior. "This" can be anything — maybe you want to discuss a project you're working on together or you're inviting them to a work event.
Multiple court divisions in Godbey's district have just one or two district judges. "Unsurprisingly, litigants have taken advantage of these orders to hand-pick individual district judges seen as particularly sympathetic to their claims," Schumer wrote. "In the past few years, the country has seen the downside of allowing plaintiffs to hand-pick their desired judges," Schumer said in a press release Thursday. Godbey's district should make a similar change for all its civil cases, Schumer wrote. "But if that flexibility continues to allow litigants to hand-pick their preferred judges and effectively guarantee their preferred outcomes, Congress will consider more prescriptive requirements," he wrote.
LONDON, April 27 (Reuters) - Allegations made against British bank Barclays' former CEO Jes Staley regarding his ties with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein are "very serious", the lender's current CEO C.S. Venkat said the allegations were being adjudicated in New York, which he said was the "right and proper place". Both seek money damages and neither lawsuit names Staley as a defendant. In U.S. filings this week, Staley accused JPMorgan of using him as a "public relations shield" and said the allegations lacked legal or factual basis. A former investor in the bank last week said the lender should have made more checks over the matter.
Sexual assault survivors can be traumatized again when testifying years later, experts say. It is not unusual for people who are sexually assaulted to not come forward right away. “The victim has to be prepared to be the sole carrier of the information, and they also carry the burden of all the questions,” said Veronique Valliere, a psychologist who counsels sexual assault perpetrators and victims. “All the defense has to do really is to attack the decision-making of the victim,” she said. “If the offender happens to have resources, like money or status, immediately people go to thinking there is an alternative motive for fabrication,” Dr. Valliere said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says his son fought in Ukraine. But reports say at the same time his luxury car was racking up parking fines in Moscow. Bank employees also met with Epstein after his accounts were closed to discuss other clients and introductions he could make to potential clients, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the meetings. The interaction with Epstein was typical for a client of the private bank, a JPMorgan spokesman said after the article was published. JPMorgan is being sued in Manhattan federal court by women who said Epstein sexually abused them, and by the government of the U.S. Virgin Islands, where Epstein owned a private island. JPMorgan did business with Epstein as early as 1998, and managed about 55 Epstein-related accounts worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Epstein was a client for about five years after he pleaded guilty in 2008 to a Florida state prostitution charge.

New York CNN —A new court filing alleges JPMorgan Chase executives were aware of sex abuse and trafficking allegations against its then-client Jeffrey Epstein, several years before the financial institution cut ties. The new complaint against JP Morgan, filed Wednesday, comes days after its CEO Jamie Dimon sat down with CNN’s Poppy Harlow in an exclusive interview. A JP Morgan spokesperson declined to comment to CNN about the newly filed complaint, which was part of the lawsuit filed in December. Attorneys for JP Morgan have denied the allegations. High level bank officials also met about Epstein’s account and the allegations against him as far back as 2008, according to the court filing.
JPMorgan sued Staley last month to have him cover its losses in both lawsuits and forfeit eight years of compensation. Epstein killed himself at age 66 in August 2019 in a Manhattan jail while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. The cases in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York are: Jane Doe 1 v JPMorgan Chase & Co, No. 22-10019; Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands v JPMorgan Chase Bank NA, No. 22-10904; and JPMorgan Chase Bank NA v Staley, in Nos.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Reuters) - Malaysia's parliament on Monday passed sweeping legal reforms to remove the mandatory death penalty, trim the number of offences punishable by death, and abolish natural-life prison sentences. Malaysia has had a moratorium on executions since 2018, when it first promised to abolish capital punishment entirely. Deputy law minister Ramkarpal Singh said capital punishment was an irreversible punishment that had not been an effective deterrent for crime. "The death penalty has not brought the results it was intended to bring," he said while wrapping up the parliamentary debates on the bill. The move by Malaysia comes even as some Southeast Asian neighbours have stepped up their use of capital punishment.
