They're just a few of the destinations trying to lure away the U.K.'s uber wealthy ahead of proposed changes to the country's divisive non-dom tax regime. They will also be prevented from avoiding inheritance tax on assets held in trust. The majority (83%) cited inheritance tax on their worldwide assets as their key motivator for leaving, while 65% also referenced changes to income and capital gains tax. Where the wealthy are movingIt comes as other countries are shaking up their tax regimes to incentivize wealthy investors. Ultra-wealthy U.K. citizens, who are typically highly active in the super-prime market, are also in "wait and see" mode ahead of possible changes to capital gains and inheritance tax.

Today, makeup is part of everyday life, part of how we see ourselves and how others see us. As I grew up and my vision became more impaired, my relationship with makeup, and myself, started to crumble. Smoky eyes ‘til I dieI used to avoid eye makeup because precision was never my strong suit. Embrace your faceMy relationship with makeup has taught me many things, but the most important lesson is that it’s okay to embrace your face. Though my sister and I no longer live together, we still bond over our shared love of makeup.

One global stock stands out as a "unique play" in the Nvidia and artificial intelligence supply chain, according to Jefferies. It's German semiconductor firm SUSS MicroTec , Jefferies said in a Sept. 17 report, calling it a "hidden gem" among European semiconductor firms. The investment bank initiated coverage of the stock at a buy rating and a target price of 76 euros ($84). The firm has "multi-layered exposure" to an advanced packaging technology called Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate, said Jefferies, explaining that it's used to make AI chips. SUSS sells its products to two major high bandwidth memory suppliers and TSMC, to be used in the production of that advanced packaging.

The U.S. Secret Service said Friday it was to blame for the near-assassination of former President Donald Trump at a July campaign rally, pointing to "complacency" by some of its agents and communication gaps with local police. "As I've said, this was a failure on the part of the United States Secret Service," said Ronald Rowe, the agency's acting director, at a press conference. The Secret Service was chiefly responsible for crafting the security plan at the presidential campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, where assassin Thomas Crooks was able to open fire at Trump before being shot dead. Line-of-sight issues at the Republican nominee's rally site were known about but not effectively addressed in advance, Rowe went on. Rowe took over the Secret Service after former Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned from the agency on July 23, just 10 days after the assassination attempt.

CNN —Almost three decades ago, Richard Hays, a United Methodist minister and the soon-to-be dean of Duke Divinity School, wrote what quickly became the go-to traditionalist Christian argument against same-sex marriage. Fuller Theological Seminary, where Christopher Hays is a professor, also demands agreement with a faith statement that opposes same-sex marriage. Even as support for same-sex marriage has plateaued in the last few years, recent surveys from Gallup find that more than one in five Gen Z Americans identify as LGBTQ, and nearly 90% of Americans under 30 years old support same-sex marriage. The reversal from Hays certainly will not settle the debate among Christians when it comes from same-sex marriage. But I hope it makes opponents of same-sex marriage at least pause and wonder — is there a faithful path forward that makes room for people like me?

China on Friday kept its main benchmark lending rates unchanged at the monthly fixing. The People's Bank of China (PBOC) said it would keep the one-year loan prime rate (LPR) at 3.35%, as well as the five-year LPR at 3.85%. The idea behind saving for retirement is to provide yourself with income between when you stop working and when you die. For those born after 1960, full retirement age — when you receive a full Social Security benefit — is age 67. So maybe it's not surprising that most U.S. retirement savers aren't planning on a lengthy retirement. "Building a plan around spending your assets down to zero, for us, we simply avoid it at all costs." In fact, the median retirement age for U.S. workers is 62, according to research from the Employee Benefit Research Institute.

Ikea's investments in Verity's drone technology fit into its broader strategy to explore and test newer supply-chain technologies. Jönsson added that deploying drones has allowed employees to have more time for analyzing inventory data. Before using warehouse drones, workers would check thousands of pallets repeatedly in order to manage inventory.

Coronary calcium buildup causes atherosclerosis, a chronic and inflammatory cardiovascular disease marked by narrowed arterial walls and thus reduced blood flow. Environmental contaminants have been increasingly recognized as risk factors for cardiovascular disease, but the association of metals with coronary artery calcification has been “largely unknown,” the study authors said. They hypothesized that higher urinary levels of nonessential metals — cadmium, tungsten and uranium — and essential metals — cobalt, copper and zinc — that have previously been associated with cardiovascular disease may be linked with calcification. The participants didn’t already have clinical cardiovascular disease and were recruited from Baltimore; Chicago; Los Angeles; New York City; St. Paul, Minnesota; and Winston Salem, North Carolina. What lower rates mean for markets
  + stars: | 2024-09-20 | by ( Krystal Hur | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
The Fed on Wednesday lowered interest rates, marking the first rate cut since March 2020. A decline in interest rates should, theoretically, mean good news for the stock market. The Fed likely won’t take rates lower as aggressively as they were raised, unless the economy takes a downturn and necessitates loose economic conditions. While mortgage rates and bond yields have begun drifting lower, companies and consumers still might not feel the effects of lower rates right away. But investors with outsized positions in Big Tech stocks should eye beaten-down areas of the market that benefit from lower interest rates, says Diton.

Washington CNN —President Joe Biden wrapped a meeting with his Cabinet on Friday, his first high-profile convening of his advisers in a year as he tries to set his post-presidential legacy. Ahead of the meeting, a White House official said Biden would instruct Cabinet members to “sprint to the finish,” as he looks to burnish legacy items while ensuring as much of his agenda is implemented before a potential second Trump presidency. And, he will tell his Cabinet to bring to him directly any hurdles or obstacles they are facing to get things done,” the official said ahead of the meeting. Administration officials have serious doubts a deal can be struck before Biden leaves office, and tensions in the region are only escalating. “The president will direct his Cabinet to get to work and make the next four months as productive as any other period in our administration,” the official said.

Earlier this year, a federal judge ordered Musk to testify as part of the SEC’s probe of the billionaire’s $44 billion acquisition. The agency is examining whether Musk followed the law when disclosing his purchases of Twitter stock and whether his statements in relation to the deal were misleading. The SEC asked the court to impose “meaningful conditional relief” if Musk does not appear at the new October testimony date. The SEC also said it intends to file a sanctions motion against Musk to recoup its travel costs for the cancelled testimony and for other relief.
