BANGKOK — Airstrikes by Myanmar’s military killed as many as 80 people, including singers and musicians, attending an anniversary celebration of the Kachin ethnic minority’s main political organization, members of the group and a rescue worker said Monday. He said he first heard there had been 60 deaths, but was later told by sources close to Kachin Independence Army officials that about 80 people had died. He said military aircraft dropped four bombs on the celebration at about 8 p.m., according to members of his group who were there. They also included at least 10 Kachin military and business VIPs sitting in front of the stage, and cooks working backstage, he added. He said the deaths were a loss for all Kachin people, and its group would fly the Kachin flag at half-staff.

Nevertheless, the company continues to innovate and diversify into different categories and wider tech offerings. Watch the video above to learn more about what makes Lululemon a global leader in athleisure and active wear.

It's an interesting trend for today's Gen Z students who are short-term anxious but long-term confident about their work and lives, says Christine Cruzvergara, chief education strategy officer at Handshake, the job-search platform for college students. Pragmatic goals around career, self-discovery and funSome Gen Zers are trading traditional life milestone goals for ones they have more control over. Speaking as a recent grad, Jade Walters agrees that taking control of her career means de-prioritizing other life goals. The 23-year-old is a Howard University grad who in her final months of school launched the Ninth Semester, an early-career resource for Gen Z professionals. The Children's Place goes full-on into grown-up wear

Recognizing that all-day “casual comfort” is now an acceptable sartorial standard, even for adults, kids’ clothing seller The Children’s Place is going full-on into grown-up wear. The retailer on Wednesday launched a new sleepwear and loungwear brand called PJ Place that specifically targets Millennials and Gen Zers. PJ Place products, priced at $10.95 to $69.95, include pajama sets, robes, thermal sets, graphic tees, socks and slippers for young adults and older shoppers. PJ PlaceTo that end, Markee said PJ Place aims to expand the company’s market share in the adult sleepwear and loungewear space overall. Going after the adult sleepwear and loungewear market is a smart move, said Maria Rugolo, apparel industry analyst with market research form NPD.
Cassidy Case is a few months into her fall internship, but she's already planning ahead for summer. As young workers search for stability and meaning when entering the working world, they're changing their behaviors and mindsets to "recession-proof" their futures. At this stage of their lives and careers, Gen Zers want flexibility in the way they live and work most of all, Cruzvergara says. At the University of Arkansas, 21-year-old senior Oliver Sims also has his summer work plans locked in. "You could work remotely from your parents' house for a company with an office based in New York."
Target's entry into the Canadian market in 2013 was its first foray in international expansion. A combination of extensive renovation needs, a flawed merchandising system, tight time frame and inadequate leadership were some of the reasons the big-box retailer decided to close all 133 stores in the country in 2015. Target does not intend to expand internationally anytime in the near future and is instead narrowing its focus on its at-home operations. Company profit plunged nearly 90% during the second quarter from the year-earlier period on an excess of unwanted inventory. It plans to completely renovate 200 existing stores and open 30 more in 2022.

Share Share Article via Facebook Share Article via Twitter Share Article via LinkedIn Share Article via EmailWhy convertible cars are declining in popularityGaining popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, the convertible car is an automotive American icon. As a symbol of leisure and fun, some history's iconic models were convertibles, such as the Chevrolet Corvette and the Ford Mustang. However, convertibles have been steadily losing popularity among car buyers and make up only 0.46% of new car sales in 2021. Buyers value practicality and functionality over looks and leisure, leading their interests elsewhere. Can the iconic design stand the test of time?

Advocacy groups sued Wednesday to block a new Florida rule that bars Medicaid coverage of gender-affirming health care, such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery. The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration adopted the rule last month after it issued a report that claimed gender-affirming procedures have the “potential for harmful long term affects.” The rule took effect Aug. 21. in the lawsuit, said the new Medicaid rule will prevent her and her husband, Joshua, from being able to access puberty-blocking medication prescribed by K.F.’s doctors. They are also represented by two health advocacy groups, the Florida Health Justice Project and the National Health Law Program. Accredited medical groups — including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association — say gender-affirming medical care is safe and medically necessary.
Schmidt, who served as Google's CEO from 2001 to 2011, helped transform the then-young Silicon Valley start-up into today's $1.9 trillion global tech behemoth — and credits in-office work for much of that growth. Younger employees, particularly those between the ages of 25 and 35, can also use in-office settings to more effectively develop their management styles, Schmidt says. "If you miss out [on that] because you are sitting at home on the sofa while you're working, I don't know how you build great management. Still, Schmidt says, a largescale movement to permanently work remotely would deny at least 30 to 40 years of workplace experience. But former Xerox CEO Ursula Burns — who became the first Black female CEO of a Fortune 500 company in 2009 — says she never bought into that narrative. Burns led Xerox from 2009 to 2016, when the company split into two corporate entities: Xerox and Conduent. That's the biggest lesson Wynne Nowland, CEO of insurance brokerage Bradley & Parker, learned going through her gender transition in mid-2017. Nowland sent an email to her 70-person staff telling them that she had made the decision to transition her gender. "I did not fully come out until I came out at work," Nowland says. And I've heard from many of the team members that they think I'm a more effective leader after my transition. I tried to do the right thing for my clients, for our insurance company partners and for our team members.
Brickham, a 38-year-old trans woman living in Florida, posted photos of her transition after seeing other trans creators do the same. But transgender creators say TikTok is an unwitting accelerator for transphobia and harassment. TikTok features — like duets, which allow users to respond to another user's videos — have also been a tool for harassers. Trans creators told Insider that the "For You" page allowed them to quickly find a community and support on the app. Creators told Insider that the transphobia they faced on TikTok was more intense than on other social-media platforms.

Making decisions, especially big life decisions like switching jobs or moving, can be stressful. Levitt's study asked 22,511 people to make a decision on a dilemma based on the outcome of a coin toss. Researchers then followed up to see whether participants followed through with the decision and how they felt about it. For the coin toss, "heads" meant make the change and "tails" meant do not. Levitt says the coin toss was equally influential between men and women, across all age groups and income levels.
