What should people exposed to someone with Covid-19 do — must they also stay away from others and how often should they be tested? Individuals who had at least moderate illness and experienced more severe symptoms such as shortness of breath need to isolate through day 10. Brendan Smialowski/AFP/Getty ImagesThe ideal scenario for isolation is for the person with Covid-19 to completely separate from other family members during the initial five days. To me, the most important precaution is for those exposed to Covid-19 to stay away from people vulnerable to severe illness. The quarantine period after exposure is not the time to visit a family member in a nursing home, for example.

"Mr. Tarrio was the ultimate leader, the ultimate person who organized, who was motivated by revolutionary zeal,” U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly said prior to announcing the sentence. “That conspiracy ended up with about 200 men amped up for battle encircling the Capitol.”Tarrio’s is the latest in a series of sentencings for former Proud Boys members convicted of seditious conspiracy. Notably, Tarrio was not among the hundreds of other Proud Boys members who breached the Capitol. Tarrio was released the next day but ordered to leave the city, so he watched and gave commands from a hotel in Baltimore. “There’s no comparing anybody that was there – including myself – with George Washington or any of the Founding Fathers,” Tarrio said.

Missouri and Texas A&M were the first teams to join the SEC in 20 years. Financial benefits and concerns about conference stability lured Boston College to become the A.C.C.’s 12th member in 2005. Penn State, one of the last major programs to remain independent, became the Big Ten’s 11th member in 1993, setting off a wave of realignment across college football. The Missouri Valley Conference stopped sponsoring football after the 1985 season. Arkansas departed for the SEC in 1991, signaling the beginning of the end for the Southwest Conference, long associated with N.C.A.A.

Also in the Senate, California’s Dianne Feinstein, 90, has been ill and displayed apparent cognitive decline in public in recent months. But given that Biden, McConnell and Feinstein are public officials, voters are entitled to a high level of transparency. Biden, for instance, would be 86 by the time his second term ends, which represents his biggest vulnerability in the 2024 election. Remarkably, in an age where major questions divide on party lines, 69% of Democrats shared that view. Should Biden, if he wins a second term, experience a similar moment to McConnell, questions about the continuity of US leadership would reverberate around the world and offer openings for US adversaries.

Mitch McConnell froze once again during a press conference on Wednesday. Doctors have speculated that the Senate Minority Leader may be experiencing seizures. Last month, McConnell had a similarly awkward moment when he abruptly stopped speaking during a press conference at the Capitol. Vossel said that age is a major risk factor for these types of seizures, more so than experiencing a fall, per DailyMail.com.

Biden, who returned on Saturday from a week-long vacation, will mark the time of year when U.S. parents send children back to school with his own trip to Washington's Eliot-Hine Middle School. The Biden administration has pushed Congress to hike funding for public schools, including those that hire mental health professionals, through a bipartisan gun safety law last year. Public education is largely funded and run locally in the United States and typically takes a back seat in the presidential campaign to jobs and prices at the gas pump. The largest U.S. labor union, the National Education Association, a group of public school teachers numbering 3 million, endorsed him just a day after he announced his re-election bid. Republicans are closely tied to efforts to steer more public education funding to parochial institutions and independently run charter schools.

The Secrets of Debate Swag

And before you can say “in my prime” or “too honest,” it will end up on a T-shirt in a candidate’s store. At a point in the electoral cycle when candidates are desperate to distinguish themselves and have only minutes onstage to do so, being able to deliver a zinger that will play on via swag is a key advantage. Ever since the inauguration of George Washington, voters have been participating in the electoral process by means of merch. Back then, it was fancy commemorative buttons that were sewn onto clothes (and were, largely, accessible only to the well-off). Now, almost as soon as presidential contenders declare their candidacy and their websites go live, the shops go live with them.

A total of 850 people are still missing in connection with the deadly wildfires that devastated Maui earlier this month, the county's mayor announced. In an overnight update posted to Facebook, Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen said there were now 850 people officially believed to be missing. Bissen said the number of missing people was the result of the FBI combining and refining various lists of missing people. "The death toll number is always provisional, in a way," Goldman said.

CNN —A cosmic object in the shape of a glowing question mark has photobombed one of the latest images captured by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope — and scientists think they know what it might be. The two have been observed and studied by space and ground-based telescopes since the 1950s, but the highly sensitive Webb telescope allowed for the highest-resolution and most detailed image yet. NASA/ESA/CSA/Joseph DePasquale (STScI)The Webb telescope illuminates information about the origins of our universe, but the appearance of this mysterious object in the background of this image leaves more questions than answers. The cosmic question mark hasn’t been closely observed or studied, so scientists aren’t exactly sure about the object’s origins and makeup. The question mark shape could also be “indicative of a merger where these two galaxies are interacting gravitationally,” Britt said.

The long-awaited rule is expected to require that real estate professionals such as title insurers report the identities of the beneficial owners of companies buying real estate in cash to the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Criminals have for decades anonymously hidden ill-gotten gains in real estate, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in March, adding that as much as $2.3 billion was laundered through U.S. real estate between 2015 and 2020. That debate has slowed down FinCEN's work on the real estate reporting rule, one of the sources said. PATCHWORKWhile banks have long been required to understand the source of customer funds and report suspicious transactions, no such rules exist nationwide for the real estate industry. FinCEN implemented GTOs in 2016 after the New York Times revealed that nearly half of luxury real estate was bought by anonymous shell companies.

To the Editor:I was surprised to read Paul Krugman’s characterization of my opposition to New York’s congestion tax proposal as “An Act of Vehicular NIMBYism” (column, July 25). The supposed goal of this plan is to keep vehicles out of Midtown and downtown Manhattan. That sounds like vehicular NIMBYism to me. Now, to be clear, I don’t begrudge Manhattan residents their desire to reduce congestion in their neighborhoods. But unfortunately the proposal seeks to reduce congestion in Manhattan while increasing congestion in a number of North Jersey communities, especially those near the George Washington Bridge.

And he’s not just any former president – Trump’s the front-runner for the GOP nomination, whom polling shows is closely matched with President Joe Biden in a hypothetical rematch. “The lawlessness of these persecutions of President Trump and his supporters is reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes,” it said. Trump’s congressional Republican backers ignored Smith’s evidence, branding the indictment an attempt to distract from questions they’ve raised about the business activities of the current president’s son, Hunter. The political inferno ignited by the indictment will raise questions about whether such an ordeal is truly in the national interest. In the newborn republic, by contrast, the framers set limits on power through four-year presidential terms renewable only by the voters. As Ronald Reagan once put it, what “we accept as normal is nothing less than a miracle.”Until Mr. Trump came along. Bringing the case to court, of course, may or may not restore some of that public faith in the system. Mr. Trump has been laying the ground for the eventual indictment for months, making clear to his backers that they should not trust anything prosecutors tell them. “Why didn’t they do this 2.5 years ago?” Mr. Trump wrote on his social media page on Tuesday afternoon.
