CNN —Honda is recalling almost 250,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing error that may damage the engine. 2018 and 2019 Honda Odysseys, 2016, 2018 and 2019 Pilots, and Ridgelines manufactured between 2017 and 2019 are also potentially affected. This recall brings the number of Honda vehicles recalled in 2023 up to more than three million. Honda said owners will be notified by letter in early January, and that dealers will inspect, repair and replace the engines for free. The Glazer family announced last November that they were exploring "strategic alternatives" for the club, including a possible sale and were open to fresh investment. Manchester United's U.S.-listed shares rose 9.5% to $20.10 in early trading on Friday. Manchester United generates more revenue and has a larger fan base than its London rival. The Glazer family has faced intense criticism from fans over its handling of this key part of the club's operations. The six descendants of American businessman Malcolm Glazer, who died in 2014, currently control 96% of Manchester United's voting stock.

The offer represents a premium of 79.1% to the stock's Thursday closing price of $18.43, which gave the Old Trafford club a market capitalization of about $3 billion. Ratcliffe, also the chair of petrochemicals firm Ineos, would pay more than $1.5 billion for a 25% stake in United if his bid for the soccer club is accepted, Reuters reported in October. The Glazer family, which made its fortune in real estate, retail and healthcare and owns the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, bought the team for 790 million pounds in 2005. The six descendants of American businessman Malcolm Glazer, who died in 2014, together control 96% of Manchester United's voting stock. Among the catalysts are Palestinian and Jewish-led groups that have been active for years in opposing Israeli policies toward the Palestinians and who now demand a cease-fire in Gaza. The groups have roots in a movement known as BDS, which calls for the boycott, divestment and sanction of Israel. That campaign generated heated rhetoric long before Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7 and Israel launched its counteroffensive. Advocates wrote op-eds for campus newspapers with appeals to protect Palestinian human rights, often accusing Israel of colonialism and racism. Protests have led to disruptions on Capitol Hill, at a major train station in Chicago and New York City’s Grand Central Station.

The maker of Winston cigarettes, Backwoods cigars and Golden Virginia rolling tobacco reported an adjusted operating profit of 3.89 billion pounds ($4.78 billion) for the year ended Sept. 30, up from 3.69 billion. Imperial said next year it anticipates low-single-digit revenue growth, while it expects adjusted operating profit close to the middle of its mid-single digit range. This means adjusted operating profit will likely grow by low single digits in the first half, it continued. Imperial raised its annual dividend by 4%, and said its ongoing multi-year share buyback would increase 10% in 2024.

CNN —Government officials, public health professionals and concerned parents are calling on Congress to ban water beads, a children’s toy that they say poses significant health risks. Water beads are tiny balls made out of extremely absorbent polymer material. Pall also emphasized that water beads have been responsible for 4,500 emergency room visits nationwide since 2017, and that these incidents have grown more frequent. Most recently, the Commission and company Buffalo Games recalled about 52,000 Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kits in September. Hoehn-Saric said that, beyond the Commission’s recalls, the CPSC is investigating taking further action regarding potentially harmful chemicals in water beads.

The logo of Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA is seen outside their headquarters in Bern, Switzerland April 5, 2016. We want reform so that we don't end up in the same mess again as we had with Credit Suisse." Earlier this year, Switzerland's financial regulator deflected blame for the collapse of the country's second-biggest bank saying it had been quick to respond, calling instead for more powers to take lenders to task. The regulator, however, has enjoyed little support among Swiss politicians, many of whom long sought to keep it weak. In the run up to the collapse of Credit Suisse, FINMA saw a string of key departures.

CNN —Former fashion mogul Peter Nygard was found guilty of four counts of sexual assault in a Toronto court on Sunday, following a six-week trial. The accusers were then “forcibly sexually assaulted, drugged, and/or coerced into sexual contact with Nygard,” according to the US indictment. Nygard consented to be extradited to the United States in 2021 but in 2023 he appealed against extradition, according to court documents reviewed by CBC. Nygard served as chairman of Winnipeg-based women’s clothing company Nygard International, which he founded in 1967. In March 2020, Nygard International filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and the United States after the sex trafficking allegations.

1 at the box office in its opening weekend but grossed just $47 million in domestic sales, according to studio estimates on Sunday. In fact, “The Marvels” is only the third Marvel movie to make less than $60 million during its opening weekend, and the first since “Ant-Man” opened with $57 million in 2015. The lackluster opening weekend numbers for “The Marvels” are also symptomatic of overarching studio challenges in recent years, say experts. Marvel’s November offering last year, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which was also a sequel to an Infinity-Saga-era film, made nearly four times the domestic opening weekend earnings as “The Marvels” with more than $181.3 million. However, the video-game-based movie is also available online for Peacock subscribers, and streaming may siphon off some moviegoers.

CNN —Ahead of high-stakes meetings next week between the United States and China, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo dismissed the notion there would be a military conflict with China over Taiwan. Both the United States and China “have a desire to stabilize (their) relationship,” Raimondo told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an interviewed that aired Saturday. Raimondo noted the world is looking to the United States and China “to be responsible and manage this relationship.”Raimondo acknowledged there is a “great competition” with China, echoing similar sentiments expressed by President Joe Biden, who has stated the United States wants competition with China, rather than outright hostility and conflict. At the same time, Raimondo said she has told China “there can be no negotiation when it comes to matters of national security,” particularly with regard to semiconductor chips used to manufacture advanced weapons. Also on the table are issues surrounding military communication between the United States and China, the climate crisis and narcotics trafficking.

"Macroeconomic pressures in the region are resulting in lower consumption and consumer downtrading," the world's biggest spirits maker said. Last month, Mexico's Becle (CUERVO.MX), the world's largest tequila producer, said economic challenges in Europe and Latin America were slowing customer spending on liquor, which battered its profits. "Over time, as inflation moderates and productivity from our supply agility program flow through, we expect operating profit to grow ahead of organic net sales growth," Diageo said. Diageo narrowly beat earnings estimates for the year ended June 30, as sales of its more expensive liquor brands offset lower volumes. It also expects total revenue to increase by a mid single-digit percentage, compared with low-to-mid single-digit growth previously. For the third consecutive quarter, strong sales of AstraZeneca's blockbuster cancer treatments and healthy demand for its drugs in emerging markets offset the loss of sales of its COVID-19 vaccine and therapy. The results add to a string of strong quarters for Britain's biggest company by market capitalisation - worth 159 billion pounds ($195 billion) - bolstered by a strong pipeline of drugs. It said that in the first nine months of 2023, nine medicines delivered more than $1 billion in revenue. Nikki Haley Is Gaining Ground - The New York Times

She’d need to continue dominating debates; she’d need to not fade or completely lose it when Mr. Trump turns a real attack on her; and more than anything she’d need a substantive critique, even if gently delivered, of Mr. Trump to feel true and land with people. A win in Iowa or New Hampshire for Ms. Haley would reset the entire primary. That response likely derived from the ridiculous period after Jan. 6, when Ms. Haley criticized Mr. Trump harshly, then seemed to dial it back. Part of it is the smooth, pain-free way Ms. Haley entered and extricated herself from the Trump administration, after criticizing him in 2016 and endorsing Marco Rubio. This picture of Ms. Haley culminated in Vivek Ramaswamy congratulating her on her future on the Raytheon board.

Adyen added it would aim to improve its core profit (EBITDA) margin to above 50% in 2026. This year so far, Adyen has lost about half its market value which currently stands at 21.58 billion euros. Too often, I see parents putting so much energy into teaching their kids to act responsibly, clean their room, or do their homework. All of that is important, but there's one thing that many of us are completely forgetting about: how to enjoy life. Sure, that seems like one thing kids do naturally. There's a difference between enjoying life as a young child and being prepared to enjoy life as an adult.
