VOORBURG, Netherlands (AP) — Cans of fish, jars of pasta sauce and bags of beans are stacked in blue crates. Meat, dairy and bread are kept cold in a huge freezer and a walk-in refrigerator in this affluent Dutch town. “There is a long list of things we need to do to challenge that cost-of-living crisis,” he told reporters at a campaign event. Mexican lawmakers OK stock market reform bill

MEXICO CITY, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Mexico's lower house on Wednesday passed a bill aimed at revamping national stock exchanges, a long-awaited move meant to boost trading following a spate of delistings from the main market in recent years. The bill loosens regulations for companies to go public, speeding up the process and reducing the costs involved, said Mexico's largest market operator, the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, in a statement. The bill had previously passed in the Senate, and will now be sent to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's desk to be signed into law. Just 138 companies are listed on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, which has gone six years without a new listing, barring spin-offs. High menu prices lift food bills
  + stars: | 2023-11-14 | by ( Danielle Wiener-Bronner | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
In the 12 months through October, higher restaurant prices drove food prices above overall inflation, even as grocery prices were relatively low. For the year, grocery prices rose 2.1%, according to Consumer Price Index data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But menu prices were up 5.4%, driven largely by a 6.2% rise at limited-service restaurants, which include fast food and fast casual spots. Many fast food and fast casual places say they’ve seen some benefit from customers trading down from pricier options. Grocery prices rose 0.3% and menu prices rose 0.4% in that period.

With Thanksgiving approaching, I think often of that story. As a child (OK, sometimes even as an adult), I sincerely believed that baking a good pie could fix everything. Accommodating allergies is nonnegotiable, but preparing dishes for those who can’t or prefer to not eat gluten or dairy can be an act of grace. These two dishes — savory sticky rice stuffing and pumpkin meringue pie — will make those guests feel that you care. And it may be a cliché, but it’s true: They’re delicious enough for everyone to enjoy.
New York CNN —Julia Galliker learned out of the blue that there was a problem with milk carton supplies. For Galliker, executive vice president of the Pennsylvania-based Galliker Dairy Company, that’s a big problem. The little milk cartons go not only to schools, but to other institutions like nursing homes and correctional facilities. “Like other milk carton producers across the industry, Pactiv Evergreen continues to face significantly higher than projected demand,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “So there’s really not been any replacement for school milk cartons.”

(AP) — Warren Buffett's company has reported a nearly $13 billion loss in the third quarter as the paper value of its investments fell, but the companies it owns — particularly the insurers — generally performed well. Berkshire Hathaway said Saturday that it lost $12.8 billion, or $8,824 per Class A share, in the quarter. That's significantly bigger than the $2.8 billion loss, or $1,907 per Class A share, that it reported a year ago. A year ago, the insurers reported a $1.1 billion loss in the third quarter. The biggest driver in that increase in expenses was a $1.3 billion loss related to wildfires at its PacifiCorp unit.

The tiny, half-pint cartons of milk served with millions of school lunches nationwide may soon be scarce in some cafeterias, with districts across the country scrambling to find alternatives. The problem is not a shortage of milk itself, but the cardboard cartons used to package and serve it, according to dairy industry suppliers and state officials. The shortage is affecting the company’s ability to “fully supply some school milk orders,” according to Matt Herrick, spokesperson for the International Dairy Foods Association. In Clarence, New York, local school district officials told parents they plan to provide “small bottles of water or cups of milk with lids” if the cartons run out. In Everett, Washington, school officials told parents to expect a disruption in cafeteria milk supply that could “range up to several months.”Herrick said U.S. milk processors are working with other package suppliers to resolve the shortage.
