Venice is so congested that it has become the embodiment of overtourism. Yet visiting Venice doesn’t always require taking what Italians call “un bagno di folla” — a bath in the crowd. The city offers plenty of fascinating attractions spared from the congestion, in fact, some of them could use more visitors. Here are some ways travelers can minimize the inconveniences even while visiting the most popular sites. “It’s not crowded, and there’s so much to enjoy,” said Cinzia Trevisan, co-founder of Venice Guides for Sustainable Tourism.

The solution was to fry the pizza dough, with ricotta and pork fat tucked inside, for a puffier and more substantial effect. With several locations in Miami, Rey Pizza offers Cuban pizza varieties that include chorizo, picadillo (ground beef) and platano (plantain). CNN —TikTok’s song of the summer, the ecstatically explicit “One Margarita,” just got a raucous new music video — with a cameo from none other than supermodel Cindy Crawford. In the music video, Crawford recreates her famous 1992 Pepsi Super Bowl ad, in which she visited a dusty vending machine at a general store to grab and gulp a cold Pepsi while young boys ogled her. With one margarita, Moore raps, she’ll “open her legs.” By the time she’s had five margaritas, well, even her partner is feeling open to experimentation. From Giant Music“One Margarita (The Margarita Song)” was originally improvised by Moore on the spot in May. "We believe that many more Gino-authored papers contain fake data," the Data Colada professors wrote. Data Colada found that the raw data showed clear anomalies, such as a distribution infinitely more likely to be produced by a random-number generator than actual people. Soon after, Data Colada ran an article alleging that Gino tampered with data in at least one of her honesty-pledge experiments. A post on Data Colada or a tweet from Brown is like a bomb going off in the behavioral-science world. Others who attempted to build on Gino's studies are grappling with having wasted time, money, and energy.

Russian hackers crash Italian bank websites - cyber agency
  + stars: | 2023-08-01 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
ROME, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Italy's cyber security agency on Tuesday said it had detected hacker attacks against websites of at least five banks, which temporarily made it impossible to access some of their services. A spokesperson for the agency told Reuters that targeted banks included Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI), Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.MI) and BPER Banca (EMII.MI), along with FinecoBank (FBK.MI) and Banca Popolare di Sondrio (BPSI.MI). The agency "identified the reactivation of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack campaigns by pro-Russian ... groups against national institutional subjects," a statement said. In DDoS attacks, hackers attempt to flood a network with unusually high volumes of data traffic in order to paralyse it. The agency said it provided swift assistance to the firms targeted by attacks from activists in the Noname057(16) group in order to mitigate any impact.

At a 15th-century palace that is steps from the Vatican and set to become a luxury hotel, archaeologists did what they always do in Rome, an ancient city thick with buried treasures. Rome is the gift that keeps on giving to archaeologists, though no one knew what would come from this preliminary exploration, a familiar routine at Italian building sites and development projects. Although chronicled by Roman-era historians, the theater had never emerged from Rome’s archaeologically rich underbelly. “It’s been stupendous, wonderful, amazing,” said Marzia Di Mento, the archaeologist who oversaw the dig at the palace, the Palazzo della Rovere. “It’s what every archaeologist would like to do.”

Rome CNN —Ruins of a private theater belonging to the 1st century Roman Emperor Nero have been unearthed in the Italian capital just meters from the Vatican, in what experts are calling an “exceptional” find. Nero was the fifth Roman emperor, ruling between 54 and 68 AD. The site includes elegant marble columns, gold-leaf decorations and storage rooms with remnants of costumes and backdrops used in Nero’s theatrical productions. A double-faced Junus head, approximately dated to the 1st century A.D., is seen among other findings coming from the excavation of ancient Roman emperor Nero's theater. “Being able to dig in this built-up, historically rich area is so rare.”Archaeologists work on findings coming from the excavation site of the ancient Roman emperor Nero's theater.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/IllustrationLONDON, July 28 (Reuters) - Corporate credit quality is weaker than financial markets currently price in, while defaults are likely to pick up in the second half of the year, a report by Janus Henderson Investors said on Friday. Tighter lending standards, higher refinancing costs and a slowing economy would take their toll on the credit quality of corporates, the report said. This suggests that defaults could pick up in the second half, even if the pace of defaults is slower than in previous cycles, it added. Additionally, a recent trend of small businesses being forced to file for bankruptcy is likely to spread more broadly into capital markets, Janus Henderson noted. "As recession fears scaled back, markets have been pricing in a more muted credit default cycle.

“An increase in metabolic rates means that sharks are using more energy to just be alive and swim,” Di Santo told CNN. Some fish species are not able to find new, suitable habitats, which causes a decline in their population. “It is important to consider that sharks are very much tuned in the behavior of their prey,” Di Santo said. “These small-scale movements can be just as crucial for their survival as poleward relocations,” Di Santo said. Zidowitz said progress on conservation to protect shark species is “too slow to keep pace” with the numerous threats they face, yet she remains hopeful.

The Vatican sold the building last year, taking an estimated loss of about 140 million euros. The others on trial include several Vatican employees and two outside brokers who the Vatican has accused of extortion. He asked the court to confiscate 172 million euros of Mincione's assets and 71 million euros of Torzi's. In 2019, a space upstairs from the main bar opened as Sala Spiritello. The most popular drink there is the Compadre, made with mezcal, chinotto liqueur, agave syrup, sweet vermouth, bitters and the inevitable Campari. And soon there will be a third smaller, invitation-only space in the basement called Sala Gaspare, named after the company founder, Gaspare Campari. Architectural monuments stand next to newer construction; timeless sartorial style meets current fashion on the street each day. The aperitivo will always be king in Milan.

Bailey runs an Etsy store that makes about $14,000 a month selling digital tumbler designs. So I quit my job and started an Etsy store called Bailey Designed Co., where I sell custom tumbler designs. In January 2022, I pivoted from print-on-demand products to digital productsI was faced with pandemic supply-chain issues, and I also saw a lot of successful sellers on Etsy who were selling just digital designs. In January, I started my own online courses for people who want to sell digital products without a design background. AI has helped me earn more because it's increased my productivity and volume of designs — and more volume equals more sales.

The advantage of using ChatGPT is that it can take you down any track you want. It's even possible to uncover hidden gems – if you ask the right questions. To uncover a genuine Tuscan experience, use prompts such as: "Can you recommend authentic restaurants locals love that are known for quality and flavor near Val d'Orcia, with websites and reviews?" ChatGPT understands queries about where locals like to eat, and being specific gets better results. To find "hidden gem" restaurants in Val d'Orcia, the more specific the question, the better, says travel writer Lisa Lucas.

Experts who spoke to Insider say radio astronomy helps us study dark matter and look for alien life. The Starlink satellites — chosen for their abundance in the sky compared to other low-orbit satellites — were observed using the Low-Frequency Array telescope in the Netherlands. Using the telescope, scientists detected frequencies from the Starlink satellites at 110 to 188 megahertz — a unit of measure used for electromagnetic waves. "We are not saying that right now that radio astronomy is doomed, and that we will not be able to do astronomy anymore. There is also the financial loss: Millions of dollars go into planning and building these massive radio telescopes over decades.

I AM just crazy about Milan’s Pirelli Tower. The stylish but severe 1950s skyscraper, once headquarters of the Italian tire company, was the brainchild of Giovanni “Gio” Ponti (1891–1979), the colossus of 20th-century Milanese design. A polymath architect-designer whose output ranged from ocean liners to cutlery sets, Ponti went on to complement this high-modernist office building, still his best-known work, with a late, imaginative masterpiece—1970’s La Concattedrale Gran Madre di Dio, a church in Taranto, a remote harbor town in Puglia in the heel of Italy’s boot.
