The Connecticut electorate will not be voting to “unseal” ballots during November’s midterm elections, or to loosen election security measures. It has nothing to do with ballots and only to do with election results. “To be clear, ballots aren’t affected at all here; this has nothing to do with the ballots. The electorate in Connecticut will vote on whether to permit early in-person voting in the state. If passed, the initiative would also remove an antiquated requirement that election results be sealed with wax, but it would not affect any election security measures pertaining to ballots as claimed online.
Daily freight rates to ship liquefied natural gas are at a record high, and prices are expected to climb further as winter approaches. Spot rates for ships commonly used to transport LNG are at $450,000 this week, a sixfold increase since the start of this year, according to the Baltic Exchange a London-based, freight-information provider. Brokers expect daily rates along main trade routes, including one from Texas to Northern Europe, to climb to $500,000 this month as the demand to charter ships remains high.

Sept 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday fined 16 financial firms, including Barclays (BARC.L), Bank of America , Citigroup , Credit Suisse (CSGN.S), Goldman Sachs , Morgan Stanley and UBS, a combined $1.1 billion over failing to maintain and preserve electronic communications. The sweeping industry probe, which was first reported by Reuters last year and had since been disclosed by multiple lenders, is a landmark case for the agency, regulatory experts said. "The firms admitted the facts...acknowledged that their conduct violated recordkeeping provisions of the federal securities laws... and have begun implementing improvements to their compliance policies and procedures to settle these matters," the SEC said. That likely impeded the SEC's ability to gather evidence in other, unrelated investigations, the agency said. The failings occurred across all 16 firms and involved employees at multiple levels of authority, including supervisors and senior executives, the SEC said.

A man walks with his bicycle past banners informing about a referendum on the joining of Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine to Russia, in the Russian-controlled city of Melitopol in the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine September 26, 2022. The mobilisation has also seen the first sustained criticism of the authorities within state-controlled media since the war began. Over the weekend, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia would defend any territory it annexes using any weapons in its arsenal. Even traditional Russian allies such as Serbia and Kazakhstan have said they will not recognise the annexation votes. When it held a referendum in Crimea after seizing that peninsula in 2014, it declared 97% of people had voted for annexation.

REUTERS/Erin ScottSept 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. congressional panel probing the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol reached an agreement to interview Virginia "Ginni" Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, in the coming weeks, her lawyer told Reuters on Wednesday. The Washington Post has previously reported the committee obtained emails between Ginni Thomas and attorney John Eastman, who advised Donald Trump that then-Vice President Mike Pence could thwart formal congressional certification of Trump's 2020 election loss. "I can confirm that Ginni Thomas has agreed to participate in a voluntary interview with the Committee," Mark Paoletta, an attorney for Thomas, said in an email, confirming an earlier CNN report. A lawyer for Thomas has said previously Thomas had no role in the Jan. 6 attack and never discussed election litigation strategy with Eastman.
For the giants of ocean trade, big ships aren’t enough anymore; they need planes, too. The pandemic, which accelerated the shift toward online shopping, followed by post-lockdown demand and now the war in Ukraine, scrambled the intricate ballet that shipping companies rely on both at sea and in port to deliver goods on time. Port congestion has forced ships to wait at anchor for weeks. A lack of workers to load and unload ships has further slowed deliveries. Empty containers have piled up in places with nothing to put in them; exporters elsewhere, eager to move their goods, can’t find enough of them.
