I sometimes wondered what I had done to deserve my doppelgänger woes. Doppelgängers, which combine the German words for doppel (double) with gänger (goer), are often regarded as warnings, or omens. In an attempt to better understand the warnings carried by my doppelgänger experience, I spent many evenings immersing myself in the rich repertory of doppelgänger films. Until the underground doppelgängers get tired of the arrangement and wreak havoc. Postulating that doppelgängers were tools to express sublimated desires and terrors, it was written in 1914, just as the First World War began.

Marko apologises for offensive comments about Perez

Marko had made his remarks on the energy drink company's television station following last weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza. An attempt by Marko to clarify his comments only dug a deeper hole. While Marko attends races in Red Bull Racing uniform, he reports to the energy drink company and is not an employee of the British-based champions. Germany's now-retired Vettel won four for Red Bull from 2010-13. Marko did compliment Perez for finishing second in Italy last weekend, a race that handed Verstappen a record 10th win in a row.

MUMBAI, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Policymakers expect persistently slower growth in China, perhaps even more sluggish than current consensus estimates, seeing its transition from an infrastructure- and investment-led economy to becoming consumption-driven as "difficult". "The inflation rate in China is around 0% - that means distortion of domestic demand and domestic supply," he said. This follows economic growth in 2022 recorded at one of its worst levels in nearly half a century. The Croatian central bank chief sees narrowing room for expansionary policies in China, adding, "We have to be careful." The RBNZ has already factored in "a pretty subdued period" for commodity prices within their projections, before they see them beginning to rise again, Hawkesby said.

CNN —The sale of over 400 pieces of jewelry once owned by late art collector Heidi Horten broke records at a series of auctions earlier this year. But amid ongoing criticism from Jewish advocacy groups and human rights organizations over the source of the Austrian billionaire’s wealth, Christie’s auction house announced Thursday that it has canceled the final part of the controversial sale. (Christie’s had initially predicted that Horten’s entire collection, featuring over 700 jewels, would sell for over $150 million.) Prior to May’s sales, the American Jewish Committee had called for the auction to be put on hold until “a serious effort” was made to investigate the Hortens’ wealth. Shelved L’Occitane buyout is no win for Hong Kong

A woman walks past a L'Occitane advertisement in Hong Kong April 19, 2010. Cosmetics retailer L'Occitane International S.A. plans to raise up to $708 million in a Hong Kong initial public offering, a source close to the deal said on Sunday night. Reinold Geiger has given up on his tentative plan to buy out the minority of shares he doesn’t already own of L’Occitane (0973.HK), a move that would have delisted the European skincare group from Hong Kong in the Asian hub’s largest take-private. The Austrian billionaire didn’t explain why he shelved the idea, which was probably a prelude to a relisting in Europe – mostly likely France. The appeal of such a move is unlikely to have diminished as global investors turn cold on both Hong Kong and China stocks, possibly for the long term.

Christie’s announced on Thursday that a second sale of jewelry from the collection of the Austrian heiress Heidi Horten had been canceled, citing the “intense scrutiny” that the auction house had faced from Jewish organizations and some collectors. Helmut Horten died in 1987 and Heidi Horten in 2022. The Heidi Horten Foundation said then that the proceeds would go toward medical research and to a Vienna museum dedicated to artwork the couple had owned. But some historians found the auction house’s decision to move forward with the sale distasteful, and employees had raised concerns internally about tarnishing its reputation. After the criticism, Christie’s added information to the auction materials saying that Helmut Horten had bought Jewish businesses that were “sold under duress,” and said the auction house would donate a portion of the proceeds to Holocaust research and education.

Verstappen goes for a record 10th win in a row
  + stars: | 2023-08-30 | by ( Alan Baldwin | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix from seventh on the starting grid last year with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc on pole but finishing second. Red Bull have won every race so far this season, 14 in a row including the 2022 finale in Abu Dhabi, and are again favourites at Monza's fast layout. Since Lewis Hamilton's fifth Italian GP win with Mercedes in 2018 no driver has managed a repeat victory in the former royal park outside Milan. Talk of a 'Monza jinx' may be premature but this is a season where straws are being clutched more desperately. For Gasly, who lives in Milan, it is effectively a home race and one with a special place in his heart.
