Germany's domestic spy agency has branded the AfD's youth wing "extremist", saying it propagated "a racial concept of society". Some AfD initiatives have won backing from mainstream voters on the more local level. Wolfgang Buechner, a Scholz government spokesman, said he was confident the coalition could whittle away at AfD support.

“Money, money, money,” said Stefan Lespizanu, a former recruiter for Oxford Business College. Whole families signed up, helping turn a vocational school of 41 students atop a Chinese restaurant into a for-profit juggernaut. Oxford Business College, unaffiliated with the elite school nearby, now has several campuses and more than 8,000 students. Years of free-market changes to British higher education have created opportunities for for-profit schools like Oxford Business College. Through opaque partnership deals with publicly funded universities, schools can offer undergraduate degrees and get access to the British government’s student aid.

Beer isn't as much of a bargain as it used to be. Beer companies, faced with rising operating costs in areas like packaging and transportation, have raised prices and seen bigger profits, with consumers footing the bill. The price of beer bought at retail locations such as grocery stores rose 5.9% for the 12 months through April 2023 compared with the prior year, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Since 2000, retail beer consumed at home has increased more than 72%. The cost of beer has climbed even more for people drinking outside the home, jumping 102% during that time.

Diddy attends The After, hosted by the entrepreneur and Doja Cat, powered by Ciroc Premium Vodka and DeLeon Tequila at Club Love in New York City, May 1, 2023. Sean "Diddy" Combs is suing multinational spirits giant Diageo for alleged racial discrimination in the handling of his vodka and tequila brands, which Combs claims the company typecast as "Black brands." In a lawsuit filed Wednesday with the New York Supreme Court in Manhattan, Combs' lawyers accuse Diageo of neglecting his Ciroc vodka and DeLeon tequila brands, and of marginalizing their appeal by marketing them as "urban" brands. Following the success of the partnership, Diageo co-purchased the DeLeon tequila brand with Combs' company in 2013. Diageo, a multibillion-dollar, publicly traded spirits company based in London, owns more than 200 brands, including the Don Julio tequila brand.

In the years since Witch first made an impact, younger musicians have been paying attention. Sampa the Great, a 29-year-old Zambian rapper with international reach, said she connected “to the defiance and the edginess” of Witch’s music. “To have traditional music and infuse it with rock, that’s what I do with hip-hop,” she added. She collaborated with Witch on a track from her 2022 album “As Above, So Below” and appears on one of the band’s new songs. “We have the original gear from those records and the same sound engineer,” said Jacco Gardner, the band’s current bassist, who hails from the Netherlands.

5 reasons G7 Summit 2023 in Hiroshima, Japan matters

CNN —This year’s G7 meeting in Japan holds special significance, not only for its location. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrives at Hiroshima airport to attend the G7 leaders' summit in Hiroshima, Japan, on Thursday. Together with his wife Britta Ernst, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz boards an air force plane for his trip to Hiroshima and the G7 summit. The biggest challenge for the G7 leaders may be keeping that momentum going. Two of the biggest holders of that debt, Japan and Britain, will be at the table with Biden in Hiroshima.
The list goes on, but the general theme of this conference was that British Conservatism is having an identity crisis and these ideas could be the solution. CNN spoke to several people involved in this conference as well as people inside the Conservative Party who opposed the conference and its ideas. Another group of Conservatives supporting the vocal criticisms of Sunak are, sources say, thinking beyond the election and about future leadership contests. Indeed, another Conservative conference was held at the weekend, seen widely as a “Bring Back Boris” event, which the former PM didn’t turn up to. Pro-Sunak Conservatives who still think the next election could be won are also not happy.
CNN —Ecuador’s embattled President Guillermo Lasso, who is facing a looming impeachment vote, has triggered a constitutional clause to dissolve government, a politically fraught move that could spark protests with the country already tackling a fragile security situation. Lasso, who took office in 2021, is accused of interfering in the negotiation of a shipping contract related to the export of oil products. The president’s decision to instate muerte cruzada means his government will remain in office until a new general election takes place in around six months. But calls for his resignation have grown louder in recent months, as Ecuador’s opposition and influential federation of Indigenous organizations accused Lasso of negligence in a country engulfed by a cost-of-living crisis and high rates of criminal violence. Will Freeman, a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the application of muerte cruzada “would absolutely cause instability.”“Lasso is too unpopular to benefit from the impression that he’s overriding checks and balances to finally get something done,” he told CNN, before the announcement on Wednesday.

Since last year, 13 companies from China have raised $4.3 billion by selling global depositary receipts in Switzerland. Photo: Stefan Wermuth/Bloomberg NewsSwitzerland has become an alternative fundraising venue for Chinese companies wanting to sell shares abroad as U.S.-China tensions simmer. There is one problem: Shares of most of the Chinese companies that listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange have fallen significantly since they priced their European stock offerings, and there has been very little trading in them.
Aaron Smith, CEO of the National Cannabis Industry Association, speaks during a news conference on the Safe Banking Act outside the U.S. Capitol in Washington, Sept. 14, 2022. The Senate banking committee is holding its first-ever hearing Thursday on a bipartisan bill that would allow the cannabis industry to access traditional banking services, which marijuana businesses see as critical to their survival. The meeting, titled Examining Cannabis Banking Challenges of Small Businesses and Workers, will hear testimony from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, including Sens. Thursday's hearing will determine next steps in getting the bill to the Senate floor for a vote, as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other key lawmakers express support for it. "Without full access to the banking and payments system, legal cannabis businesses are forced to operate in the shadows," said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who is also chair of the committee.
steps out of the corner office, stares into the abyss of a sparsely occupied floor, and only the abyss stares back. Disconcerting questions arise: What kind of a place is this, and what kind of a leader am I if so few people want to show up? The hierarchy effect, already weakening before the pandemic, has been undermined even further by the living (and successful) experiment of hybrid work. Leaders are facing more than a back-to-office struggle: They are wrestling with a new, post-pandemic identity. Old Approaches Fall ShortSome have responded by looking to reassert a degree of traditional control.
Unfortunately, I've seen many teams and organizations fail because of a highly insecure person standing in the way. I've found that one of the most difficult personality types to deal with are highly insecure people. Here are seven things highly insecure people say when they sense that change is coming:1. Usually, it's not that they don't have enough time; it's that they don't know how to manage it effectively. The alternative way the insecure person suggests is usually more or less a continuation of the same behavior.

Judges presiding over a German court case between 2013 and 2016 involving the measles virus settled a civil dispute about a promised payment and did not rule on the existence of the virus itself, contrary to social media posts falsely claiming the courts decided the virus does not exist. However, judges presiding over the case and subsequent appeals to which the articles refer did not rule on the existence of the measles virus, and expressly said this in court. Dr. David Bardens, a medical student, responded to Lanka’s measles virus challenge on Jan. 31, 2012. He submitted six studies (see citations in clause 21 here) which, Bardens said, provided Lanka with proof that the measles virus exists, and of its size. They did not rule on the existence or non-existence of the measles virus.
Musician Ed Sheeran leaves federal court in New York, US, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. A Manhattan federal jury ruled Thursday that pop star Ed Sheeran didn't infringe on the copyright of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On." Upon hearing the verdict, Sheeran stood up and hugged his lawyers, according to NBC News. The plaintiffs first filed the civil suit in 2017 and alleged that Sheeran, Warner Music Group and Sony Music Publishing stole from the soul classic, violating federal copyright law. Sheeran told jurors that he composed "Thinking Out Loud" independently with British songwriter Wadge, who was not named in the lawsuit.
