Bellingham is only 20 and already has very high-mileage at the top end of the game. Barring injuries Bellingham will face a huge workload this season and world players union FIFPRO has warned that he could be vulnerable to burnout if not managed properly. Only Rooney came anywhere close to Bellingham's total with 10,989 minutes while Lampard's total was 3,477 and David Beckham had not even managed 1,000 senior minutes before turning 20. "It is important for clubs and national teams to take a balanced approach when it comes to managing young players' workloads." Southgate will hope that Bellingham is given sufficient time to re-charge between now and the start of Euro 2024.

Artificial intelligence can help tackle climate change, but to fulfill that promise companies need to find a way to limit AI’s own climate impact. Alphabet’s Google and American Airlines used AI to help planes create fewer vapor trails, which contribute to global warming. For many companies using AI there are both positive and negative effects on their carbon emissions and water use. In the U.S., where there is no central electric grid, training models in one state versus another can have a significant impact on carbon emissions. A Google data center in Oregon.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The cost of building an artificial intelligence product like ChatGPT can be hard to measure. To keep it cool on hot days, data centers need to pump in water — often to a cooling tower outside its warehouse-sized buildings. The estimate includes indirect water usage that the companies don’t measure — such as to cool power plants that supply the data centers with electricity. It was also thirsty in Iowa, drawing more potable water to its Council Bluffs data centers than anywhere else. Its fourth and fifth data centers are due to open there later this year.

Fully remote jobs may be more vulnerable to new AI tech, one expert says. Stanford's Nicholas Bloom said AI was likely to impact "low-level, fully remote workers," per Fortune. Jobs that rely in some part on in-person work have less to fear from AI automation. "If I were fully remote, you could replicate me with AI," he said during the panel, which was reported by Fortune. "I think we're going to see a lot of impact [among] low-level, fully remote workers," he added.

The Caixin/S&P Global manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) rose to 51.0 in August from 49.2 in July, beating analysts' forecasts of 49.3 and marking the highest reading since February. The data, a snapshot of the sprawling manufacturing economy, surprised to the upside but offered a mixed picture of the sector, a day after an official survey showed manufacturing activity contracted for a fifth straight month. The Caixin manufacturing PMI surveys around 650 private and state-owned manufacturers and focuses more on export-oriented firms in coastal regions, while the official PMI surveys 3,200 companies across China. Manufacturers reported increases in both output and total order intakes thanks to firmer market demand, the Caixin survey showed.

Walmart also has agreed to pay $3.1 billion as its share of an opioid-related legal settlement, which is adding to its legal costs this year. For example, a pharmacist could go from an 80-hour, two-week pay period to one lasting 64 or 72 hours, said the source, who attended the meeting and spoke on condition of anonymity. On average, the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retail chain pays its pharmacists more than $140,000 a year, excluding bonuses and incentives, according to Walmart. Earlier this year, Walmart scaled back the operating hours of its pharmacies by two hours at more than 4,500 U.S. stores, amid a shortage of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians that began during the pandemic.
