Women also made gains since 2018 in becoming vice president and senior vice president, but again in staff roles. Half of companies also offer support for those employees caring for sick family members or elderly parents, the study found. The report found that for every 100 men who received their first opportunity to be a manager, only 81 women got the same offer. “Given that employees with consistent manager support are more likely to be promoted, it very likely disadvantages them,” the analysis said. “Research shows that companies with more women in leadership benefit from greater innovation, healthier cultures, and stronger performance.

We expected there to be a cooling labor market — that's kind of the goal — and it's always just, you know, how cool?" That being said, when it comes to the labor market … it is, in fact, so over. That's an improvement over July's 4.3% unemployment rate, but overall, the jobs market in the US is cooling off. During his tenure as CEO, Grove transformed the chip company into a giant of Silicon Valley that, during the 1990s, was as important to the PC market as Microsoft. Pat Gelsinger, who has led Intel as CEO since 2021, has enacted a sweeping set of new initiatives to turn the chip company around. Its Gaudi 3 AI chip, unveiled as a rival to offerings from Nvidia and AMD, is expected to generate just $500 million in sales this year. Meanwhile, Alvin Nguyen, senior analyst at Forrester, told Business Insider that this is a big public win for Intel. Gelsinger's second headline announcement was that the company is establishing Intel Foundry as a separate subsidiary within Intel, with its own new operating board and independent directors.

Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals sounded unconvinced Monday that the TikTok “sale or ban” law, signed by President Joe Biden in April, was unconstitutional. TikTok and ByteDance have since condemned the practice and said that three employees involved were terminated, with an additional employee resigning. Pincus also said that the data TikTok collects from American users is anonymized and is comparable to other Chinese companies, like major e-commerce platforms. TikTok creators and users in the U.S. have responded overwhelmingly negatively to the proposed ban. Trump then expressed support for TikTok following Biden’s passage of the national security package that included the provision to ban TikTok.

"The false narrative surrounding them is hurtful and offensive and has sadly made innocent people targets of hateful speech and physical threats," the team said in a statement on Monday. KYIV, Ukraine — The shots fired by the Secret Service near former President Donald Trump at a Florida golf course Sunday are ringing out 5,000 miles away — in the Russia-Ukraine war. After what officials called the second assassination attempt on Trump in three months, a man named Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was taken into custody and charged. Routh had already been extensively profiled in the Western media as an ardent supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s ongoing invasion. Ukraine sought Monday to distance itself from Routh, with the country’s international legion — the military unit that includes foreign volunteers — saying it had nothing to do with him. “We would like to clarify that Ryan Wesley Routh has never been part of, associated with, or linked to the International Legion in any capacity.

But after the Titan didn’t return at its scheduled time, the Polar Prince contacted the Coast Guard. Is TikTok trying to secretly influence Americans at the behest of the Chinese government? And an analysis of the ownership structure of TikTok parent company ByteDance, obtained by NBC News, argues that the company is deeply entangled with some of China’s major government propaganda organs. The most recent one, published last month, found that TikTok suppresses anti-China content compared to YouTube and other social media platforms. In recent years, according to media reports, Chinese government entities have increasingly taken golden shares in technology companies. “This report establishes that TikTok algorithms actively suppress content critical of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) while simultaneously boosting pro-China propaganda and promoting distracting, irrelevant content,” the researchers wrote.

WASHINGTON — Divided House Republicans stumbled last week in their effort to pass Speaker Mike Johnson’s bill to fund the government. “A government shutdown is always a bad idea, at any time,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters. The speaker’s initial strategy had called for a six-month continuing resolution (CR) tied to the SAVE Act, legislation backed by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump requiring proof of citizenship to vote. It’s unclear whether Johnson this week will try to tweak the SAVE Act approach or try something entirely different. Republicans see the SAVE Act as a mechanism to try to force politically vulnerable Democrats into a difficult position.

A new report commissioned by a labor-backed group is examining a problem many Democrats might rather ignore: the exodus of working-class voters from the party they used to call home. Some voices on the left have downplayed the significance or even denied the loss of working class voters, but the data is increasingly clear and signs of realignment are everywhere. “We take the right wing and Republican Party seriously when they say they want to be the party of the working class,” Mitchell said. Too often, the report argues, working-class voters are thought of as white men without college degrees, likely involved in a trade like plumbing. If nothing else, Mitchell hopes the research will push Democrats to take seriously the erosion with working class voters and to move beyond one-size-fits all stereotypes when thinking about how to talk to working-class voters.
