NEW YORK, June 12 (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase (JPM.N) agreed to pay about $290 million to settle a class action lawsuit by Jeffrey Epstein's victims, resolving a large part of litigation over the bank's relationship with the disgraced financier. Monday's settlement came 3-1/2 weeks after Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE), where Epstein was a client from 2013 to 2018, agreed to pay $75 million to end a similar lawsuit by Epstein victims. "A settlement with Epstein's victims frees JPMorgan to begin to turn the page and change the narrative." The $290 million settlement amount was confirmed by David Boies, a lawyer for Epstein's victims. Last month, Rakoff said JPMorgan could be liable to Epstein's victims if they could show Staley had firsthand knowledge that Epstein ran a sex-trafficking venture.

And in some cases, human rights advocates say, the biases that appear to be shown by Facebook's ad system may exacerbate other disparities. Global Witness targeted the ads to adult Facebook users of any gender who resided in, or had recently visited, the chosen countries. Certain roles were less strongly skewed — a package delivery job ad, for example, was shown to 38% women users in the Netherlands. In December, Real Women in Trucking filed its EEOC complaint alleging that Facebook's job ads algorithm discriminates based on age and gender.

Graduates of USC's Master of Social Work program sued the school last week. They accused it of misrepresenting the online program and equating it to the on-campus program. Stephanie Luna, the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit, graduated the program in 2021 and she paid over $110,000 for the online social work program, according to the lawsuit. She now has $100,000 in student debt and said she would not have enrolled in the program had she known the online program was not the same as on-campus. The lawsuit is seeking an order to prevent USC from misrepresenting the online social work program to future students, along with tuition reimbursement to compensate online students for differences in the online and on-campus degrees.
