Read previewThe Atlantic diet, based on traditional eating habits in regions of Spain and Portugal, could help you switch up your snacking habits for a longer, healthier life, according to a dietitian. AdvertisementFollowing a flexible eating plan like the Atlantic diet can help you make healthier long-term choices, such as swapping out processed snack foods for nutritious but delicious alternatives. Adding more beans to your diet can also help you follow the more flexitarian eating style of the Atlantic diet and its Mediterranean cousin by eating meat in moderation. You don't have to opt for tuna if you prefer salmon or even sardines since all kinds of seafood are encouraged on the Atlantic diet. While the Atlantic diet does emphasize whole foods, the focus is adding more healthy foods to your diet, instead of trying to cut back or deprive yourself.

U.S. intelligence agencies discovered the plan to go after Papperger earlier this year and informed the German government, the sources said. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the CIA and the German embassy in Washington all declined to comment. The Intelligence Committee is closely following these threats, which only strengthen our resolve to support Ukraine." In a boost for Toyota, Indian state cuts levies on hybrid cars
  + stars: | 2024-07-11 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
A move by India's Uttar Pradesh state to waive some levies on hybrid cars will make them 10% cheaper, delivering Japan's Toyota Motor a big win in lobbying efforts and raising industry and analyst expectations that other states could follow suit. Just as it does with electric cars, the government of India's most populous state will also waive the registration tax on some hybrid car sales, it said in a July 5 notification. Hybrid cars offer fuel savings as they operate on both electric motors and combustion engines. "This is a sizeable incentive provided by a state for hybrid cars. Uttar Pradesh accounts for 10% of India's total car sales.

Hal Lawton, the chief executive of the Brentwood, Tennessee-based company, had said these initiatives “make great business sense for Tractor Supply.”But Tractor Supply has decided that all of those risks are now worth ignoring. By walking away from diversity and climate goals, Tractor Supply has become the latest corporate giant to retreat from progressive initiatives it once promoted, joining Bud Light, Target and others. Tractor Supply declined to comment on these statements. Tractor Supply’s customer base has historically been primarily older men, who lean Republican, but Tractor Supply has increasingly tried to draw Millennials and women, who tend to favor Democrats. Tractor Supply’s reversal could hurt it with these customers, who could be crucial as the company’s historic base ages out of the market.

For more than six months, Russia has been carrying out a sabotage campaign across Europe, largely by proxy. “We’re seeing sabotage, we’re seeing assassination plots, we’re seeing arson. Russia’s sabotage campaign has, at times, smacked of a shotgun approach carried out by amateurs. The federal government will grant car and auto parts factories in eight states $1.7 billion to begin producing electric vehicles and other clean energy technology, the Biden administration announced on Thursday. Among the 11 recipients will be a Jeep factory in Belvidere, Ill., that the brand’s parent company Stellantis closed last year. The money will allow the plant to reopen and produce electric vehicles, officials said, restoring almost 1,450 jobs. Other beneficiaries include a factory in Georgia that plans to make Blue Bird electric school buses, a General Motors factory in Michigan that will shift production from gasoline to electric vehicles, and a Harley-Davidson factory in Pennsylvania that will increase production of electric motorcycles. The funding helps to address fears that electric vehicles will endanger jobs at factories that make gasoline-powered vehicles or parts for internal combustion engines as the industry shifts to E.V.s.

The NATO official said they had observed “an unprecedented escalation and spread of Russia’s hybrid warfare” over the past six months, which included “physical sabotage” on the supply line of NATO weapons intended for Ukraine. “It is everything from point of production and origin, to storage, to those who are making decisions, to the actual delivery,” the senior NATO official said. Recent high-profile arrests have revealed the ad-hoc, clumsy nature of how the Kremlin’s intelligence operations have evolved since the start of the war in Ukraine. Russia is big enough to have resources to fight a war against Ukraine and also maintain its security operations against European countries… against us. There are people who take part in the war against Ukraine, and then they are rotated to some other region or area.

A Volkswagen logo is seen at the New York International Auto Show Press Preview, in Manhattan, New York City, U.S., March 27, 2024. Volkswagen shares dipped Wednesday after the company issued an overnight profit warning and announced it was considering the potential closure of an Audi plant in Brussels. It noted that is also considering the restructuring or potential shutdown of its Audi plant in Brussels, where it employs 3,000 people, on the back of weak demand for the Audi Q8 e-tron line — a fully electric offering from the brand, launched in 2019. Automakers have contended with waning EV demand, with European brands facing the compounded challenge of a wave of discounted, state-subsidized rival vehicles produced in China. If it presses ahead, this would mark Volkswagen's first factory shutdown in nearly four decades, since the 1988 closure of its plant in the Westmoreland site in Alabama.

China EV maker BYD to build $1 billion plant in Turkey

Hong Kong CNN —China’s BYD, which vies with Tesla for the title of the world’s top maker of battery electric vehicles, has agreed to build a $1 billion car factory in Turkey, the Turkish government has announced. “We aim to meet the growing demand for new-energy vehicles in the region and reach consumers in Europe,” the statement cited BYD representatives as saying. The EU’s decision earlier this year imposed an extra 17.4% tariff on the vehicles BYD ships from China to the bloc, which also has a standard 10% duty on all car imports. Talks between the EU and China are expected to continue but, if no agreement is reached, the additional tariffs will become definitive in November. BYD already announced in December that it would build an EV factory in EU member Hungary, becoming the first major Chinese automaker to build passenger cars in Europe.

Researchers in South Korea say they’ve developed a new way to make lab-grown meat taste like the real deal. It may look like a transparent, bubble gum pink-colored disc, but scientists hope it could revolutionize the meat on people’s plates. Because the cultured meat is not yet edible, the researchers used an electronic nose, to test the aromas of the cultured meat, and see how they compare to conventional meat. Ron DeSantis banned the sale of lab-grown meat in the state in what he said was an effort to protect farmers and ranchers. Modi, who leads the world’s biggest democracy, has propped Putin up by making India one of a few loyal customers of Russian oil and gas throughout the two-year war in Ukraine. For all the controversies over nuclear power, it’s a zero-carbon form of energy when generated and it’s fast becoming part of many countries’ answer to the climate crisis. “Clearly the Kremlin has decided that would be a good idea, and some countries are keen to expand their own nuclear power production. It changed its tune in May, when it banned Russian uranium imports, and is on a quest to rapidly develop its own industry to produce HALEU to fuel its own next-generation reactors. It can only benefit India being part of closer collaboration in the Arctic.”She added that India was also benefiting from processing Russian crude oil.
