"He can't even direct traffic, how come he will direct the national team. They have since created a bond that has allowed a rejuvenated Messi to enjoy his best years with the national team. It was that which arguably gave them the foundation to regroup after their shock loss to Saudi Arabia in their World Cup opener. Representing my country is an emotional thing," Scaloni told reporters after Argentina swept past Croatia 3-0 in their World Cup semi-final. Thanks to Scaloni's acumen, Argentina are on the brink of glory - and while Messi will claim the attention, his coach deserves his share of the plaudits.

This week, the average rate for a 30-year mortgage stood at 6.33% – marking the fourth consecutive week of declines. Mortgage rates have declined three quarters of a point over the last four weeks, representing the largest drop since 2008. Over the last four weeks, mortgage rates have declined three quarters of a point — marking the largest drop since 2008. The recent downturn reverses a protracted period of hikes in mortgage rates and could make home purchases more affordable for prospective buyers. There is a flip-side to the latest slide in mortgage rates, however.
Inflation, geopolitical uncertainty and fears of a recession have undermined financial confidence across the board, according to a new report by Edelman Financial Engines. Less than one-quarter, or 23%, of more than 2,000 adults polled earlier this fall said they felt "very comfortable" about their finances. Fewer — just 12% — consider themselves wealthy, the report said. Even with their high net worth, less than half of all millionaires, or 44%, felt "very comfortable" about their finances and fewer than one-third, or 29%, felt wealthy, the report also found. But at a time when inflation and stress levels are up, and markets and portfolios are down, "very few Americans actually feel wealthy."
But the talented, telegenic and multiracial Americans left fans with soaring hopes before the US, Canada and Mexico host the 2026 World Cup. Often, the World Cup and Olympic gold medal-winning US women’s soccer team gets more attention than their male counterparts — although their pay is only just beginning to catch up. The idea of an unexploited market of soon-to-be-soccer fans has long beckoned to FIFA’s marketing teams, especially during the 1994 stateside World Cup, but has never been fully realized. US soccer fans are also increasingly sophisticated, glued to NBC’s Premier League coverage reportedly worth more than $2 billion. The beautiful game’s place in the country’s sports scene could be cemented if the US makes noise in the next World Cup.

Shortly after Chinese leader Xi Jinping reaffirmed his position at the pinnacle of Chinese political power, he faces what could be the biggest test of his tenure. The outcome could reshape how foreign multinationals operate in China, the flow of global manufacturing investment, and China’s relations with developed democracies. What is more, several fundamental factors leading to this moment are unlikely to fade for the foreseeable future.

As speaker, McCarthy would be well placed to frustrate Democratic President Joe Biden's legislative ambitions. In Republican House leadership elections on Tuesday, McCarthy is expected to overcome a challenge from hard-line conservative Representative Andy Biggs. Republicans fell short of the "red wave" that some had predicted for a comfortable House majority and control of the Senate. The last two Republican House speakers, John Boehner and Paul Ryan, came under varying degrees of pressure from the right flank of the Republican caucus. The Congressional Leadership Fund, a group tied to him, contributed more than $160 million to help Republican House candidates.
Investors say it feels like a make-or-break moment for the Solana network, but they're optimistic it'll pull through. "Every community has to have a crucible moment," said Avichal Garg, a managing partner at venture capital firm Electric Capital. "FTX really helped construct this ecosystem, they put a lot of money and resources behind it and helped the flywheel get going," Garg said. On the bright side, whatever amount of Solana tokens was locked on the FTX exchange can't be sold now. However, those close to the Solana community have been strongly encouraged by growth trends in its developer base.
Formerly a prodigious amateur, for eight years Brewerton had traveled the world competing at the summit of women’s professional golf. Regular top-10 finishes became fleeting, then non-existent, and as Brewerton’s ranking tumbled, so too did her income. Despite her struggles in the game, Brewerton never fell out of love with golf. Looking back, Brewerton believes she was often guilty of over-training, at the expense of working on the mental side of her game. Comfortably inside the top-20 ranked players on the LET, Brewerton is enjoying her best season in a decade, with three top-10 finishes highlighting a flurry of top-25 outings.
In doing so Thitikul becomes the second youngest golfer to reach the summit of the women’s game. Already a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour, Thitikul is also only the second player – after Park Sung-hyun – to have reached the world No.1 slot in their rookie season. Henderson has since racked up eight wins on the LPGA Tour, her most recent coming at the LA Open in April 2021. She won her first LPGA Tour event in March 2022 at the JTBC Classic in Southern California (pictured), and in May, rose to No. 1 ranking in 2015, and today boasts 17 victories on the LPGA Tour.
The trial over Arkansas’ ban on gender-affirming care for trans children recently began. As vulnerable children await to hear if their bodily autonomy will be stripped away, we should remember that cisgender children seek gender-affirming care with relatively little social stigma attached. The care that I received is just one small example of the gender-affirming care that cisgender folks receive regularly. The care that I received is just one small example of the gender-affirming care that cisgender folks receive regularly. And a recent viral interview between Jon Stewart and Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge about her state’s ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth points to a large part of the problem.

London CNN —Former finance minister Rishi Sunak will be the United Kingdom’s next prime minister after seeing off his lone remaining rival in the fast-tracked race to become Conservative party leader on Monday. Sunak is set to replace Liz Truss, who will become the shortest-serving prime minister in UK history. Sunak will become prime minister once he is officially appointed by King Charles III and will be the first prime minister appointed by the new King following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September. His campaign got a big boost when his former boss and rival, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, withdrew from the race on Sunday night. He criticized Truss’ economic plan which ultimately sparked panic in the financial markets and led to her demise.

House Democrats have unified as they fight to retain their fragile majority in next month’s midterms. But given Biden’s unpopularity and the GOP lead on the generic congressional ballot (which asks only which party people would support), the more likely scenario is a bad election night for House Democrats. If Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn head for the exits, the leadership matchups become pretty clear. Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., conducts a news conference in the Capitol Visitor Center on Sept. 20. The Massachusetts Democrat has significant support from fellow female members and has stayed close to the Black, Hispanic and Asian caucuses — big voting blocs in the diverse 220-member Democratic Caucus.

BEIJING, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Over 2,000 delegates to a twice-a-decade congress of China's ruling Communist Party in Beijing elected a new 205-person Central Committee on Saturday that will set the course of Chinese policymaking for the next five years. Among the newly elected members of the Central Committee, the largest of the party's top decision-making bodies, was Xi Jinping, 69, who is widely expected to be named general secretary on Sunday, securing a precedent-breaking third term as its leader. Also on Sunday, the Central Committee will vote on its next Political Bureau, or Politburo, usually comprising 25 people, and its Politburo Standing Committee (PSC), the pinnacle of power in China, helmed by Xi. Under an unofficial "seven-up, eight-down rule," PSC members who are 68 or older retire during the party congress. However, Premier Li Keqiang, although 67, was also left out.
CNN Business —Rolls-Royce will start production of its first electric car next year. That’s fairly sleek, but just in the ballpark among modern electric cars. Even an electric Rolls-Royce could hardly go without the grille, though, since the upright, tombstone-shaped slab of metal slats is among the most genuinely iconic in the industry. This follows the strategy of Rolls-Royce’s parent company, BMW, which also relies on flexible engineering that can be used to build both gasoline and electric cars. Usually automakers try to conserve weight when making electric cars to make up for all the mass the batteries themselves add.
Xi’s Contradictory Vision for China

Chinese leader Xi Jinping ’s big moment is finally here. But as he prepares to begin a third term at the pinnacle of Chinese power, he risks squandering China’s chance to become the world’s top economy in pursuit of an ill-advised bid for self-reliance. Mr. Xi can point to some major achievements. Few would argue that China isn’t now a “moderately prosperous society,” a longtime aspiration enshrined in decades of Party documents. China’s environmental problems remain daunting, but the country has made steady progress.
Today, at 31, I have a thriving vending machine business that brings in more than $300,000 a year in sales. But one day, a new side hustle idea sparked when my friend saw a woman taking cash out of a vending machine. But I kept at it, and now I have 21 vending machines throughout Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Washington, D.C. Look to see if there are vending machine warehouses in your city, and on platforms like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and eBay. There are also local vending machine warehouses that sell food and beverage products, like Pinnacle Vending in Philadelphia.
And in a way, Duncan thought the science wasn't a good match for the blunt process of oil and gas drilling. The Covid downturn in 2020 capped close to a decade of a bear market for oil and culminated in the negative spot prices in the oil market in May 2020. Oil and gas was changing from a growth business to a value business, and oil company management were much more focused on fiscal discipline. That concentration of equipment and infrastructure's resulting reduced costs was not good for an oil services company. And there have been a lot of surprises along the way – how the shale boom became its biggest business, followed by how quickly the science became commoditized in the oil market.
