He was courageous enough to try to do one of the hardest things in running, win a race from the front, wire-to-wire. 😱 A STUNNING upset in the men’s 1500m as AMERICAN COLE HOCKER takes gold! This was the race that all running nerds had circled on their Olympic schedules, but not because of Hocker. Oldest brother Henrik finished fifth in the 1,500 meters at the 2012 Olympics. He said he tried to respond, but ran out of gas – 1500 meters had proven “just 100 meters too much.”“I ruined it for myself by going way too hard,” he said.

YouTube's biggest creator has been embroiled in a string of recent controversies. Donaldson, 26, has generally avoided the controversies that have felled some of his peers during his 12 years online. AdvertisementBut recently, that's begun to change, with fans and video participants speaking out against the star. "It's going to be a mess," said one Amazon insider, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the show. Beyond these new controversies, Donaldson has faced further criticism for an old video clip of him making racist and homophobic comments that has recirculated on social media.

Vice President Kamala Harris will set out this week on a swing-state campaign blitz, giving her a far heavier travel schedule than her opponent, former President Donald Trump. Harris’ travel this week will take her to seven states in less than a fourth of the time. Reached for comment, Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung pointed to the overall difference in the number of Trump and Harris campaign trips. Harris' campaign swing is also consistent with how candidates typically pick up the pace as the election draws closer, said Aleigha Cavalier, a Democratic strategist at the strategy and marketing agency Precision Strategies. But she said Harris' travel pace compared to Trump's and Biden's is "a real advantage."

New York CNN —Google has violated US antitrust law with its search business, a federal judge ruled Monday, handing the tech giant a staggering court defeat with the potential to reshape how millions of Americans get information online and to upend decades of dominance. The decision by the US District Court for the District of Columbia is a stunning rebuke of Google’s oldest and most important business. The company has spent tens of billions of dollars on exclusive contracts to secure a dominant position as the world’s default search provider on smartphones and web browsers. Now, said US District Judge Amit Mehta, that powerful position has led to anticompetitive behavior that must be stopped. “It has violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act.”This is a developing story and will be updated.

Now, a team of engineers and geologists brings a new theory to the table — a hydraulic lift device that would have floated the heavy stones up through the middle of Egypt’s oldest pyramid using stored water. Water from ancient streams flowed into a system of trenches and tunnels that surrounded the Step Pyramid, according to the study team. The shaft within the Step Pyramid is connected to a 200-meter-long (656-foot-long) underground tunnel that connects to another vertical shaft outside the pyramid. Conversely, a moderate-sized hydraulic lift can raise 50 to 100 tons. “It doesn’t mean (the hydraulic lift device) wasn’t used,” she added.

Since then, virtually all of the electricity produced in the state has come from renewable sources, including hydropower, biomass, wind and solar. It has supplied more than 85 percent of the electricity produced in the state every year for more than two decades. Last year, wind supplied more than a fifth of the electricity produced in the state.

Behind the scenes, the conservative justice sought to put a thumb on the scale for states trying to restrict how social media companies filter content. The states enacted their laws in 2021 and, with variations, restricted the ability of social media platforms to filter third-party messages, videos and other content. Greg Abbott signed that state’s measure, he said, “there is a dangerous movement by social media companies to silence conservative viewpoints and ideas.” In Florida, Gov. Kagan added a footnote to her majority opinion buttressing that point and reinforcing Barrett’s view. But, despite Alito’s protest, Kagan had a majority signing her decision, which, at minimum, offers lower court judges a strong indication of the framework the high court majority would use in future online challenges.

Francis officially became the oldest living American after Edie Ceccarelli died at the age of 116 in February. Once she turned 115, she became the fourth oldest living person in the world, according to LongeviQuest. When asked for advice on how to live a long, fulfilling life, Francis said, "Speak your mind and don't hold your tongue," Ben Meyers, longevity researcher and chief executive officer at LongeviQuest, told The Washington Post. Her sister lived to 106 years old, and her father passed away when he was 99, Francis' granddaughter Ethel Harrison told TODAY.com.

Roy Cooper has taken himself out of consideration to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, according to two sources familiar with the discussions, in a sign that the accelerated search has entered a new phase. A decision could come within a week, two people familiar with the matter said, with Harris’ goal to make an announcement before August 7. She intends to have private conversations with top contenders, sources said, but it was unclear whether those discussions have started. Cooper, whose friendship with Harris dates back to their time serving as the attorneys general of their respective states, was also the oldest candidate under consideration. His age, 67, was seen by some Democrats to be at odds with Harris’ push for a vigorous and younger ticket, the sources said.

When President Biden abandoned his re-election campaign this month, citing the need to “pass the torch to a new generation,” some of the most envious accolades he received came from 6,000 miles away. In central Africa, in coastal Cameroon, many are longing for their president, Paul Biya — at 91 the world’s oldest leader — to take a leaf out of President Biden’s book. But most think he never will. “He’ll do everything to remain in power,” said Lukong Usheno Kiven, a human rights advocate based in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, where Mr. Biya has been in power for 42 years. Mr. Biya is just one of dozens of notably aged leaders who are also far older than the populations they serve.
