(AP) — An Indiana Moms for Liberty chapter has followed the conservative group’s national playbook, challenging diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in school districts as part of its “parental rights” mission. Democratic candidate and Carmel city councilman Miles Nelson asked his opponent on stage earlier this month to denounce the local Moms for Liberty chapter. The local chapter is relatively new, but its June newsletter attracted wide condemnation after quoting Hitler on its front cover. “It’s a clear example of how opposition to Moms for Liberty can galvanize people to vote against conservative candidates,” Valant said. Shaw, a former teacher, said she is concerned about the Moms for Liberty chapter's influence in the county.

First to be settled is what happens with Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus, who is seen as the maverick genius behind the country's successive World Cup triumphs. He was coach in 2019 when they won in Japan but tweaked his role thereafter, relinquished the coaching post to his long-time lieutenant Jacques Nienaber. Both have been lauded for the analytical work and attention to detail and are likely to be sorely missed. None of the winning squad have spoken of quitting, either the game overall or their international careers, but the intensity of the World Cup campaign takes a toll as the 31-year-old centre Damian de Allende explained when asked whether he would continue with the Boks. "I would love to say yes but at the moment I have to take it year by year,” he said after Saturday’s victory.

Ukraine has received all 31 of the formidable M1A1 Abrams tanks promised by the US. Ukraine will have to be careful with how it employs the Abrams, especially as the counteroffensive likely slows in coming months. But don't expect to see many showdowns with Russian tanks. Siemens Energy, a major European manufacturer of wind farms, power grids and natural gas turbines, said Thursday that it was in talks with the German government about securing financial guarantees to help it continue to build future large projects. The statement said preliminary talks were underway with banks and the government. News that the Munich-based company was seeking help spooked investors, sending its stock price down 35 percent. Siemens Energy’s difficulties could be a warning that financial problems weighing on makers of renewable energy equipment could be growing more severe. These businesses are expected to be integral to helping economies shift to cleaner energy, but many are struggling to grow fast enough.

I've witnessed firsthand the nuances that set education in the United States and Japan apart, especially with colleges and universities. I've been fortunate to teach at Morgan State University, Art Center College of Design in Baltimore, and I'm now an assistant professor at Temple University Japan in Tokyo. It's a system designed to identify potential — whether one's destination is a public university or a prestigious private college. Students here are bound by a singular choice; they can only apply to one public university for admission. Shokuiku encourages parents and schools to teach kids where their food comes from and how it affects our mind and body. This concept has been an integral part of Japan's culture, and it's a big reason why we're home to some of the world's healthiest children. As a mother raising a young daughter in Japan, here's what Japanese parents do differently to raise happy and adventurous eaters:1. Some preschools have kids harvest vegetables to eat for lunch, while in elementary schools, they learn about the farms that produce vegetables, fish and other foods. While many preschools also provide lunches, homemade bento lunches can play an important role in promoting shokuiku.

A major chipmaker is getting a lot of love on Wall Street — and no, it's not Nvidia . Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company posted third-quarter results Thursday that topped analysts' expectations. While the company reported its largest profit decline since 2019, it signaled a looming end to a difficult inventory correction. The Taiwan-based semiconductor company plays an integral role in the attention-grabbing artificial intelligence chipmaking industry, supplying products to Apple , Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices . However, now may mark an opportune time for long-term investors to get into a company poised to experience mid- to high-teens growth in 2024.
