One of the panel's expert witnesses, law professor Jonathan Turley, acknowledged that the evidence Republicans had gathered so far, however, doesn't prove their case. The House Republicans, Raskin said, were acting "like flying monkeys on a mission for the Wicked Witch of the West." The Democrats' witness was Michael J. Gerhardt, a law professor at the University of North Carolina who testified during Trump's first impeachment inquiry. House Republicans have said they are looking into whether Biden improperly aided his son or profited off his business dealings. The White House has repeatedly rejected the House GOP's assertion that Biden abused the power of his office to enrich his family.

Here’s takeaways from Thursday’s first impeachment inquiry hearing:Rep.Jamie Raskin and Oversight Chairman James Comer speak on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on Thursday. Conservative law professor Jonathan Turley also said that the House does not yet have evidence to support articles of impeachment against Joe Biden, but argued that House Republicans were justified in opening an impeachment inquiry. Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer said that House Republicans have amassed “a mountain of evidence” showing that Biden “abused his public office for his family’s financial gain.”Yet, as has been the case since they began lobbing the sensational accusations, they offered nothing to support them. Turley added that, in his view, House Republicans passed the threshold for an impeachment inquiry into Biden’s conduct but that the evidence made public thus far lacks teeth and would, in his view, favor Biden. Thus far, no evidence has surfaced suggesting the president has accepted bribes or abused his positions in office. In at least one such cash transfer, Hunter Biden used the president’s home address in the wire form, which Republicans said on Thursday provides a critical link to the president. McCarthy gave his blessing to the impeachment inquiry earlier this month after pressure mounted from former President Donald Trump and his allies in the House.

How Much Coffee Is Too Much Coffee?
  + stars: | 2023-09-26 | by ( Alice Callahan | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
Q: I routinely drink three or four cups of coffee per day, but often wonder if this is too much. Coffee can be many things: a morning ritual, a cultural tradition, a productivity hack and even a health drink. Studies suggest, for instance, that coffee drinkers live longer and have lower risks of Type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, cardiovascular conditions and some cancers. “Overall, coffee does more good than bad,” said Rob van Dam, a professor of exercise and nutrition sciences at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University. But between your breakfast brew, lunchtime latte and afternoon espresso, is it possible to have too much?

It became a meme (are you even in a relationship if she hasn’t asked you about the Roman Empire? They marvel at their absolute dominion, their mastery of every strand of civilisation — and then how that power suddenly slipped away. These are what one psychologist termed “eminent orphans.”It’s easy to put Elon Musk into that category. He had no friends and lived in a world in which you either bullied or were bullied. But Isaacson’s account suggests that this is not the only or even the main impetus behind Musk’s extreme ambition. In the midst of that bleak childhood, Musk dived into science fiction, computer games and comics, and in some sense never left. In that world, Musk seems to have been gripped by a story just as fervently as a religious person is gripped by a holy book.

CNN —Presidential history is lousy with ne’er-do-well sons. American history tells us a different story: Bad presidential sons are as old as the nation itself, yet political opponents have never thought weaponizing them would win an election. If there is evidence that a sitting president, a former president, a presidential candidate, a presidential heir or anyone else, has committed a crime, he or she should be held accountable. “I never did in my Life know a Youth so exceedingly indolent, or so surprisingly voluptuous,” Jack’s tutor, Reverend Jonathan Boucher, wrote to George Washington. While the trial marks the tech sector's first major anti-monopoly proceeding in decades, Google is squarely in the middle of its antitrust battles. What the trial is aboutA key focus of the trial will be on two kinds of agreements Google has made with other companies. "The cases have very compatible theories, and the core message from both is that Google's monopoly power has been abused, harming competition and hurting consumers," Weiser said. Walker wrote that the abundance of places where consumers can use online search shows that Google hasn't foreclosed competition. In addition to experts like economists, expect to see Google executives called to the stand, potentially including CEO Sundar Pichai.

It revolves around how Google pays partners to promote its search engine on their products. A law expert said the DOJ has a "pretty strong" case but has big hurdles to prove Google is liable. Much of the trial's outcome will be predicated on whether the deals Google made to promote its search engine excluded healthy competition.
