But the mercurial billionaire was once a skeptic — and very vocal about why he thought Trump shouldn't govern the US. Back in July 2022, Musk criticized Trump after the former president called him a "bullshit artist" during a rally in Alaska. Musk later said in a follow-up post the same day that having Trump as president would result in "too much drama." Musk would go on to host DeSantis' campaign launch on X in May 2023, which was riddled with technical glitches and delays. The pair got closer this year, eventually culminating in a full-throated endorsement of Trump from Musk after Trump survived a failed assassination attempt on July 13.

One, in particular, summed up the mood among Biden’s donors, he said. After weeks of turmoil over the future of the Democratic ticket, Kessler said the campaign donors he’s courted as a bundler for Biden’s campaign are turning their full attention to Harris and committing to work on her behalf. On Sunday afternoon, the Biden campaign filed paperwork with federal election regulators, transforming itself into the “Harris for President” committee. Lindelof was among the contributors who had called on fellow Democratic donors to stop writing campaign checks. Morgan had planned a fundraiser for the Biden campaign in Florida, but those plans had been put on hold because of the tumult unleashed by the June 27 debate .

Vice President Kamala Harris, who has struggled for nearly four years in President Biden’s shadow, was thrust on Sunday into the center of a remarkable political drama that could culminate with her becoming the first Black woman at the top of a major-party presidential ticket. Mr. Biden’s decision to abandon his re-election bid and endorse Ms. Harris to succeed him puts her in a powerful, but not certain, position to become the new face of the Democratic Party, charged with preventing former President Donald J. Trump from returning to the Oval Office for another four years. “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump,” Mr. Biden wrote in a social media post after he announced his decision to step aside. “Let’s do this.”Ms. Harris and her team are likely to move swiftly to try to seize that mantle even as uncertainty swirled about whether other Democrats would seek to challenge her for the nomination at the party’s convention in Chicago next month.

For Trump, an incredible week since escaping death

CNN —Donald Trump may not have changed in the past week, but the presidential race clearly has. ► Watched President Joe Biden be isolated by the growing number of Democrats who worry he can’t beat him. If Biden were to look for inspiration on how to overcome the naysayers, he could find it in Trump. When Democrats win those states, they can win the White House. In the intervening days, CNN has learned that Crooks searched for information on both Trump and Biden, including for details about the Democratic National Convention.

But if that suddenly changes, two dozen leading Democratic politicians and operatives told CNN, they can’t realistically see this ending any other way. Still, it’s an idea some Harris backers support, doubting that anyone serious would challenge her, as much chest puffing as there is behind the scenes. Multiple Democratic members of Congress who have called for Biden to go declined on Friday when asked by CNN if they were ready to say they want Harris to be the nominee. “I do believe it has to be the vice president. Biden’s hand would matterFew can conceive of Biden stepping aside and not tapping his running mate to take over.

Li, 27, is part of a growing base of Chinese workers swapping high-pressure office jobs for flexible blue-collar work. But these firms are slowly losing their appeal as China’s economy faces headwinds including a property crisis, declining foreign investment and slumping consumption. The trend to move from professional to manual jobs comes amid surging demand for blue-collar workers, according to Chinese recruitment platform Zhaopin. And blue-collar workers’ pay has also gone up, attracting more people to jobs they might have previously avoided. He would eventually slip into a version of his familiar stump speech, and the drama dissipated. But for those first 15 minutes, the former president delivered a campaign speech like no other — a remarkable narration of a near-death experience packaged as slick political theater. CNN —Paul Whelan, an American detained in Russia, told CNN he has “sympathy and empathy” for Evan Gershkovich following the conviction and sentencing of the Wall Street Journal reporter, but expressed hope that the development could open the door for a deal to secure both of their release. This Summer’s Sleeper TV Hit: ‘Your Honor’

Over a decade ago, “Breaking Bad,” the crime drama starring Bryan Cranston, catapulted from a basic cable show with so-so ratings to a big hit after Netflix started streaming it. And now the so-called Netflix effect is providing a boost, most unexpectedly, to “Your Honor,” another show starring Mr. Cranston — turning it into this year’s surprise summer TV hit. The series garnered more than a billion minutes of viewing time for three consecutive weeks, Nielsen said. (The “billion minute” mark is an unofficial Nielsen benchmark for a big hit.) According to preliminary Nielsen data, “Your Honor” will hit that milestone for a fourth consecutive week, and possibly a fifth too.

The Fed Under Trump 2.0

Trumponomics and the FedOne of the hot debates on Wall Street this election cycle is how Donald Trump would deal with the Fed if he is re-elected and, in particular, if he would fire or demote Jay Powell as chair, The Times’s Jeanna Smialek writes for DealBook. In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek conducted before last weekend’s assassination attempt, Trump said that he did not plan to fire Powell, allowing him to serve out his term. Trump appointed Powell, but turned on him over interest rate policy. The former president was displeased when the central banker refused to cut rates to bolster economic growth. President Biden reappointed Powell to a new four-year term that started in 2022.
