Four top staff members of Mark Robinson's campaign for North Carolina governor have stepped down, the campaign announced Sunday as the candidate faces calls from Republicans to do the same. The campaign said the staff members who stepped down are Chris Rodriguez, campaign manager; Heather Whillier, finance director; Jason Rizk, deputy campaign manager; and Conrad Pogorzelski III, general consultant and senior adviser. Some Republican lawmakers have expressed concern over the allegations, but the North Carolina Republican Party emphasized in a statement shortly after the story was published that Robinson "has categorically denied the allegations." Democrats have sought to link Robinson to former President Donald Trump, releasing new advertisements highlighting Trump's previous praise for Robinson, who is North Carolina's lieutenant governor. Democrats see North Carolina as a state that can possibly be flipped in the presidential race.

Democrat Kamala Harris leads Republican Donald Trump by 5 points among registered voters, 49%-44%, in the new national NBC News poll. In that July poll, Trump was ahead of Biden by 2 points, 45% to 43%. The new poll shows the key voting blocs that have moved — and those that haven’t really budged — since Biden’s exit. Latino voters backed Biden 54%-38% in the July poll; in this survey, Harris led Trump by a similar 54%-35% margin. Today, it is just over $3,000,” said Harris, who also serves as chair of the National Association of Home Builders. Vice President Kamala Harris has proposed offering $25,000 in down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers and incentives to homebuilders to construct more housing for first-time homebuyers. Former President Donald Trump has said he would lower housing costs by opening federal land to development, rolling back regulations and reducing overall inflation. But homebuilders say they face a web of challenges that have been nearly two decades in the making and will likely take years to resolve. One major barrier to driving down prices and increasing supply has been a shortage of workers, homebuilders said.

Read previewUS equities are trading near record highs after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates last week, but a long-time chartmaster doesn't believe the euphoria is warranted. Add in an unclear path forward for interest rates and geopolitical risks, and Keller said stocks will struggle to break past today's levels. Homebuilders such as DR Horton (DHI) can be a prime beneficiary of lower interest rates, Keller pointed out. "And when you think about what that means, that usually means: really good setup for homebuilders. Utilities also stand out, not only due to their defensive qualities, but because their yields look more attractive as falling interest rates weigh on bond yields.

Trump may hold meetings with world leaders that his campaign does not announce in advance, explained sources close to the campaign. “While President Biden will be there, he will be there as a lame duck. Since leaving office, Trump has held regular conversations with foreign leaders. U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R) (R-LA) departs a press conference with Republican leadership on Capitol Hill on September 18, 2024 in Washington, DC. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson on Sunday announced a new temporary government funding proposal with key amendments from the original bill he put forward earlier this month, going against former President Donald Trump's wishes and making some concessions to Democrats. E.T., just over a month away from the November election when party control will be up for grabs in both the White House and Congress. "While this is not the solution any of us prefer, it is the most prudent path forward under the present circumstances," Johnson wrote in the letter. The new bill will likely get to the House floor by Wednesday, according to House Republican aides.

CNN —Four top operatives on Republican Mark Robinson’s campaign for North Carolina governor have stepped down, the campaign announced on Sunday, days after a CNN report uncovered inflammatory comments he made on a porn website. Robinson has a long history of making inflammatory statements but the newly unearthed message board posts go a step beyond. In an interview with CNN on Thursday, Robinson repeatedly denied that he made the comments on Nude Africa. Since the CNN report, some North Carolina Republicans have moved to pressure Robinson to drop out – though the state deadline for him to officially withdraw as a candidate has passed. Neither the Robinson campaign nor Nude Africa responded to inquiries from CNN.

Washington CNN —Former President Donald Trump told two fictional stories about Oprah Winfrey on Saturday – one of them new, another he has been telling for at least 11 years. In a social media post late Saturday night, Trump wrote, “A long time ago, Oprah Winfrey asked me to do her last Network Television Show. He did not appear on the last episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2011, nor even in the star-studded final week of the show. At a campaign rally in North Carolina earlier on Saturday, Trump said: “And didn’t Oprah ask her about her time at McDonald’s? That, after all, is what Project 2025 was actually meant to be. When he said, during his debate with Kamala Harris, that he hadn’t read Project 2025 and has no intention of doing so, I believed him. But Project 2025 — and much else like it that has gotten less press — is more than a compendium of policy proposals: It is an effort to build a deep state of Trump’s own. This is the problem groups like Project 2025 set out to solve. Behind the policy playbook sits a database of around 20,000 applicants ready to be part of the next Trump administration.

Election observers worry that delays in counting mail ballots could give the public a false sense of who’s winning the election. In Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, election officials are still barred from beginning to process mail ballots before 7 a.m. on Election Day – even though election workers in both states have clamored for change. Georgia's State Election Board members discuss proposals for election rule changes at the State Capitol in Atlanta on September 20, 2024. The new law could delay by an hour or more – depending on the county – the posting of unofficial early results, state election officials have said. In Maricopa County, the general election ballot covers both sides of two pages – twice the length of the ballot voters encountered four years ago.
