Ukrainian forces shelled the cities of Donetsk, Svitlodarsk and Horlivka, Pushilin said on Telegram. Several houses and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged during the strikes, Pushilin added. Remember: The Donetsk People's Republic is a self-declared, Russian-backed separatist region in eastern Ukraine, where fighting has raged since 2014. This post has been updated to include the latest death and injury toll reported by Russia-backed authorities in Donetsk.

Lyles earlier this month said he was ending his season after becoming the first male athlete since Jamaican Usain Bolt to win gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. "Every meet that happens after world championships I see almost as a victory lap," Lyles told reporters ahead of the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League final, where he will compete in the 100m on Saturday. "A lot of people will get tired and they don't really want to go to track meets and I'm like, it doesn't matter if you win or lose now because you already won world championships. "We've got to treat this like our victory parade, like when other teams go back to their city and they celebrate. The Prefontaine Classic runs Sept. 16-17 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

MANCHESTER, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Britain battled to victory over last year's Davis Cup runners-up Australia in their Finals group stage opener on Wednesday, while Spain and Italy both suffered chastening defeats at home in the premier men's team competition. "It's amazing to play my first Davis Cup tie in the UK in this sort of arena. In Valencia, the Czech Republic took an unassailable 2-0 lead over hosts Spain, who were missing Carlos Alcaraz after the world number two decided to pull out of the squad to recover following his U.S. Open semi-final defeat. Italy also endured a disappointing day in front of home fans in Bologna, as defending champions Canada secured a comfortable Group A victory in a re-match of last year's semi-final. Macy’s named Olivier Bron the next chief executive of Bloomingdale’s, the company’s luxury chain, on Tuesday, the latest move in a leadership shuffle this year. Mr. Bron was previously chief executive of Central Group’s Central and Robinson Department Stores in Thailand. Macy’s announced this year that Mr. Spring would be elevated to chief executive of Macy’s in February after the planned retirement of Jeff Gennette, who has led the company since 2017. Macy’s has ambitions to become more competitive in e-commerce as younger shoppers pull away from department stores. Mr. Gennette previously said Bloomingdale’s, under Mr. Spring, had worked as a “scrappy incubator” for ideas that eventually made their way to Macy’s.

"Certainly, we want to get into a fast-paced game that suits us the style that we love to play. I think it was 44 minutes during one of the (Bledisloe Cup games against Australia), so it's big difference." "At the weekend the ball was like soap so there's probably more kicking involved in that strategy," he added. The veteran hooker, though, warned that the All Blacks might have to accept that they would not get more than 40 minutes of ball-in-play at this World Cup, nor be able to rely on their opposition fading through fatigue. "At the World Cup, people turn up on the day and that pressure and that intent can do funny things to you," he said.

Coach Fabien Galthie and his assistants were satisfied with the win against an All Blacks side, who were previously unbeaten in all 31 of their previous World Cup pool games, but they were quick to point out the team's shortcomings in defence. France missed 21 tackles in the first half and assistant coach Laurent Labit was not so happy with Penaud's performance in that area. France, who are assisted by former referee Jerome Garces, who held the whistle in the 2019 World Cup final, produced a disciplined display. The tournament starts Friday at the same Stade de France where the security fiasco last year drew worldwide attention to heavy-handed policing, raising questions about how France manages security at big events. Although UEFA was blamed for the near-disaster at the Champions League final, French senators said the fiaco was also because of mistakes by police, with “malfunction at every stage” before, during and after the game. In their report, senators pointed to the poor handling of fans ahead of the Champions League final that created a bottleneck near the Stade de France. “The pathways to the Stade de France, which led to the difficulties we experienced, have been perfectly revised,” Darmanin said. He added that all of the Rugby World Cup teams will benefit from the protection of elite police forces during their stay in France.

Before last year's invasion of Ukraine, Russia was a major market for aircraft lessors, which bought jets from Boeing (BA.N) and Airbus (AIR.PA) and leased them to Russian airlines. Aeroflot said in a statement that ownership of 18 aircraft and five engines had transferred to NSK following settlement with AerCap. AerCap filed a $3.5 billion London lawsuit last year against AIG and Lloyd's over 141 aircraft and 29 aircraft engines it owned that were on lease to Russian airlines. CNN —Public schools in France have been turning away students for breaking a new national ban on the abaya, a long, robe-like garment often worn by Muslim women, as a rights group filed an appeal against the prohibition. A total of 67 girls returned home rather than remove their abayas, Education Minister Gabriel Attal told CNN affiliate BFMTV on Tuesday. The ban has its legal foundation in a law passed in 2004 banning the wearing of “conspicuous” religious symbols in schools. “They say that the abaya is a religious dress, but it’s not at all, it’s not a religious dress, it’s a traditional dress, it’s a dress that all girls wear, both veiled and non-veiled, and so it’s a bit of a problem,” she said. French President Emmanuel Macron has defended the ban, saying it is not “stigmatizing” anyone but “people who push the abaya” are.
