Amazon plans to bring same-day prescription delivery to 20 more cities next year, the company said Wednesday, marking the latest phase of its push into health care. As part of the expansion, which will make speedy medicine delivery available in nearly half of the U.S., Amazon said, it is embedding pharmacies in same-day delivery facilities often clustered around major metro areas. Amazon in March introduced same-day pharmacy delivery in New York and Los Angeles, after launching the service in Indianapolis, Miami, Phoenix, Seattle, and Austin, Texas. Launched in 2020, Amazon Pharmacy was born out of the company's 2018 acquisition of online pharmacy PillPack. It launched then shuttered its telehealth service, Amazon Care, along with a line of health and wellness devices.

Autonomous taxis are winning over women in cities like San Francisco by offering an answer to a long-standing concern about ride-hailing apps: misbehavior by human drivers, especially men. Now, those driver safety concerns are helping to fuel the popularity of autonomous taxis — especially for women traveling alone or at night. About three-quarters of Lyft and Uber drivers are men, according to industry and academic surveys. Lyft said in a statement to NBC News that it continues to try to improve safety, including with driver background checks, driver ratings, driver education and an emergency phone line for passengers. In 2023, Lyft started a feature, Women+ Connect, that allows women or nonbinary drivers to opt in to prefer riders who are women or nonbinary, and vice versa.

After Iran launched approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel last week, U.S. military officials discussed options for joining Israel in its retaliation against Iran, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the discussions. The U.S. has long supported Israel with intelligence and that support could continue during Israel’s retaliatory strikes against Iran, the two officials said. Senior U.S. military officials have also discussed conducting very limited strikes against Iranian targets, the two officials said. Strikes inside Iran have been discussed, as have strikes on targets outside Iran, though strikes of any kind are less likely than intelligence sharing, the officials said. And U.S. officials say Israel has made it clear that it is not ruling out a response during the Yom Kippur holiday this week.

Driverless cars are speeding onto America's streets, but whether the public will trust robotaxis remains an open question. Nearly two-thirds of Americans said they would not want to ride in a driverless passenger vehicle if they had the opportunity, according to a Pew Research Center Survey. Tesla's upcoming robotaxi launch threatens to throw the whole autonomous vehicle space off course. Alphabet -owned Waymo is the leader in the space, with the company claiming it has notched more than 22 million driverless miles. Uber has hedged its bets by inking high-profile deals with autonomous vehicle companies, but it's unclear how long those partnerships will last.

Isaacson said Musk told him he wanted to start an AI company because he didn't trust Sam Altman. Twice this year, US forces in the region have assisted Israel in intercepting an attack by Iran.
