Several countries have been beefing up their defense budgets in light of mounting geopolitical tensions, and Goldman Sachs has named several European stocks to play the theme right now. European defense stocks "have closely tracked super-cycles and are now "trading at peak multiples (20x 12-month forward price-to-earnings) vs history," which translates to a 45% premium to the benchmark Stoxx 600 index , the bank's analysts noted. Stocks Goldman's analysts said they "increasingly favour stocks exposed to long-term secular growth themes with superior visibility on growth." Other stocks with an exposure to the defense industry on Goldman's buy-rated list include aerospace names Rolls-Royce Holdings (also on its "conviction list") and Airbus . The bank has increased its 12-month price target on the stock by close to 60% to 606 euros, giving it nearly 13.4% upside potential.

After a degree in fine art, Lambert imagined he would become an art teacher, but a chance meeting with an art dealer who hired him as an assistant set him on a different path. Then, after a stint at another dealership, he opened his own gallery in September — Lambert Fine Art — in the British town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Dealing in art is a trade Lambert described as "unusual," because art is often a purchase driven by emotion rather than need. 'The business needs new blood'The world of art dealing can be intimidating to new entrants, according to Olya Johnson, an interior architect and co-founder of art and interiors business Relic, which she set up in 2023. Risks of dealing artThe occupation can also be risky, because dealers often own multiple pieces of art without knowing when they will be sold, according to the dealers CNBC spoke to.

The group had announced a union organizing effort in February, but very often such campaigns fall short of filing to hold a vote. Union organizing efforts have picked up in the last year, especially in the wake of a number of high profile contract wins by unions that provided union members with large pay raises. There are more than 21,000 Disneyland “cast member” employees, who are represented by more than a dozen unions. But it doesn’t include the performers who dress up as characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy and interact with visitors. Vo said it’s difficult for cast members to afford living on their own, and many have roommates.

A franchisee told BI how he's trying to absorb California's $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers. "Right now I'm trying to size what the true impact will be," he said. But the higher minimum wage has meant that Hom's more experienced workers have also got a boost. He declined to say how much he paid them, but noted that it was "significantly higher than the minimum wage." Some franchisees of Pizza Hut and Round Table Pizza have laid off all their delivery drivers, believed to be because of the $20 wage.

Pressure is mounting on Elon Musk to turn the wheel of his embattled electric vehicle company when it reports first-quarter earnings, according to Barclays. The comments from Barclays come amid a rocky start to 2024 for the largest U.S. electric vehicle maker. Levy expects Austin, Texas-based Tesla to miss Wall Street expectations and report gross profit margins below consensus estimates in reporting results next week. "While investors will enter the call with significant questions on Tesla's strategy, we believe many of these questions may be unanswered," Levy wrote. "And with significant uncertainty remaining on the investment thesis, it could lead investors to capitulate."

With China's growth showing signs of a rebound and valuation near its historical low, it could be time for a comeback. We'll discuss how to set up an options trade to bet on a turnaround. Nike (NKE) has formed a triple bottom at the $90 support level over the past 3 years and recently it just bounced higher off this support. Read previewAustin Walters started SpringTide Ventures in 2018 to disrupt healthcare by democratizing access to health innovations. The firm just closed its second $65 million fund to make more of those bets. A tough fundraising environmentAfter closing on its first $20 million fund, which the firm began investing out of in 2019, SpringTide originally set a $100 million target in 2021 for its second fund, Walters said. SpringTide picks a different focus area each time — most recently, home health, where the firm has invested in companies like family primary care startup Nest Health. By solving significant problems with advanced technologies, these companies have natural competitive advantages that allow them to drive outsize returns for the firm, Walters said.

It's the next step in implementing a broader version of debt relief for borrowers. Comments can be submitted to the Federal Register here, which the Education Department will then review. While lawsuits have yet to be formally filed against Biden's administration, Missouri's Attorney General Andrew Bailey wrote on X in response to Biden's relief proposals: "See you in court." And some experts said a conservative Supreme Court could likely rule like they did with Biden's first debt relief plan, striking it down. Following the public comment period, the Education Department will review comments and could choose to adjust their proposals based on the feedback they receive.

It was a brazen theft: thousands of gold bars and millions of dollars in bank notes stolen a year ago from Toronto’s international airport. On Wednesday, Canadian authorities announced the arrest of nine people, including an Air Canada employee, in connection with the theft of more than 20 million Canadian dollars, about $14.5 million, in gold bars and 2.5 million dollars, about $1.8 million, in bank notes that vanished from a warehouse at Toronto Pearson Airport in April 2023. Arrest warrants have also been issued for three other people, including a manager at the airline. “One we jokingly say belongs in a Netflix series.” The Peel police are responsible for law enforcement at Toronto’s airport. The gold, Chief Duraiappah said, was partly used to buy guns that were bound for Canada.

Gia YetikyelI live in Chicago and usually go to nearby grocery stores to snag what I need for the week. The errand can take between 20 minutes to an hour, depending on whether I'm going to a specialty grocery store or taking public transportation. The idea of having my groceries delivered to me in less time is definitely intriguing. But although Getir has Chicago, New York, and Boston listed as locations on its website FAQ and social-media pages, I was surprised to learn that the company wasn't delivering groceries in Chicago. Luckily, I was flying to New York City the following week for a quick family visit, and I was able to test Getir out there.

Alain BeechingThe researchers also reviewed skeletons found at other archaeological sites across Europe and identified 20 other probable instances of similar sacrificial killings. The practice may have been relatively widespread in Neolithic, or late Stone Age, Europe, according to the study, published in the journal Science Advances last week. The study said the actual number was probably higher but there was insufficient information about skeletons at other archaeological sites to draw firm conclusions. The three skeletons were buried in a grave built in the style of a silo, where grain is typically stored, inside a wooden structure and surrounded by a trench. At the other sites across Europe, men and children as well as women were also found sacrificed in this way, the study said.
