The 48-meter (158 feet) Garisenda tower was built in the 12th century, during a boom period of the northern city’s history, but two centuries later it had already begun to tilt. Today, it leans at an angle of four degrees, just a little more than the Pisa tower’s current 3.9-degree slant. A rendering showing how the equipment from the Tower of Pisa will be used on the Garisenda tower. Michele Lapini/Getty ImagesWhile less well known than its counterpart at Pisa, the Torre Garisenda has long been a tourist attraction in Bologna. Today the bell tower is a stable monument mainly thanks to those steel pylons which will hopefully give the Garisenda tower a second life.

CNN —The largest apex predator in the tropical seas, tiger sharks are notoriously fierce. But in The Bahamas, tiger sharks have taken on a rather less ferocious role, as assistants to marine scientists. The data they collected revealed what is the world’s largest known seagrass ecosystem, an area of up to 92,000 square kilometers (35,000 square miles) in the Bahamas. Tiger sharks with cameras helped scientists to map the world's largest known seagrass ecosystem. It would never be possible as humans, or as tiger sharks, to do the entire exclusive economic zone of The Bahamas.

Alaska Air shares just getting started Alaska Air Group has recently broken above a key resistance level and could represent a compelling option for investors searching for stocks earlier on in their uptrends. Alaska remained below that retracement level as well as a declining 200-day moving average until this week. Now we're seeing ALK power above $42 with an initial upside target at the 61.8% retracement level around $47. The momentum characteristics are consistent with bullish phases, with Alaska becoming overbought this week after a quick rise. While overbought conditions could indicate a short-term pullback in the coming weeks, we're inclined to assume this uptrend could be just getting started.

"There is no rush to cut the policy rate" right now, Waller said in a speech prepared for delivery before an Economic Club of New York gathering. The dollar index , a measure of the greenback against major peer currencies, ticked up in the wake of Waller's comments and last held mostly unchanged at 104.41. Traders await key U.S. core inflation figures due on Friday, following a bigger-than-expected jump in U.S. durable goods orders on Tuesday that has already boosted the dollar against the yen. The greenback reached 151.975 yen on Wednesday, its strongest against the yen since mid-1990. Japan intervened in the currency market three times in 2022, selling the dollar to buy yen, first in September and again in October as the yen slid towards a 32-year low of 152 to the dollar.

Walmart's global technology platform runs the retailer's core business operations, including in-store point-of-sale systems, e-commerce, and distribution and fulfillment centers. Internal emails obtained by BI show that Walmart's business is interrupted by issues with its global tech platform at a far more frequent rate than previously reported. Last year, Walmart spent $11.8 billion on supply chain, customer-facing initiatives, and technology, according to a recent SEC filing, up from $9.2 billion the year before.

In the wake of Nvidia 's launch of powerful new artificial intelligence chips, Goldman Sachs is predicting major growth for memory chips used in AI systems. Called Blackwell, the new GPU chips from Nvidia that power AI models require the latest third-generation memory chips, also known as high-bandwidth memory (HBM/HBM3E). The investment bank expects the total addressable market for HBM to expand tenfold to $23 billion by 2026, up from just $2.3 billion in 2022. Saudi Arabia won an uncontested bid to lead a United Nations body dedicated to women’s rights for the 2025 session, bringing condemnation from human rights groups that argued that the kingdom had an “abysmal” record on women’s empowerment. On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.N., Abdulaziz Alwasil, was elected chairman of the Commission on the Status of Women, a U.N. body whose aim is to protect and promote women’s rights around the world. The Saudi state news agency wrote that the country’s new chairmanship “confirmed its interest in cooperating with the international community to strengthen women’s rights and empowerment” and highlighted strides the country had made toward greater social and economic freedom for women. But the decision drew scathing criticism from human rights groups. Amnesty International’s deputy director for advocacy, Sherine Tadros, said in a statement that Saudi Arabia had an “abysmal record when it comes to protecting and promoting the rights of women.” She argued that there was a “vast gulf” between the U.N. commission’s aspirations and the “lived reality for women and girls in Saudi Arabia.”
